Guest Basildon Fox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 They looked clueless and devoid of any real ideas throughout the match. Gave exactly the same impression as the latter part of last season. I Will be slated for saying this and hope I am proven wrong but we will struggle this season. Not bad enough to go down but no where near enough quality to challenge for promotion.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 The best thing about that game was the farce concerning the unveiling of the away kit The players looked much more confident with 4-4-2, I thought.
KFS Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 James and Pearson's interviews on RL sound really reasonable. I don't see how people are picking negatives, is it a case of Alan Young influencing people? He's been nothing but negative about that game, where he doesn't really need to be. Saturday, you cannot come soon enough!
Babylon Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Every year I watch friendlies and every year I say to myself I won't bother again as it's always a waste of time... someone please remind me next season to go on a months holiday over pre season.
Matt Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 0-3 flatters them, we played ok, didn't deserve to lose 0-3 however we are along way from being good enough.
Guest Col city fan Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 That was for you mate! Though I did actually mean it!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 USELESS. We can't be like this over the next few months or we wii be among the lower teams.
Stadt Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Glad I didn't go. Boring. We looked slightly better playing 4-4-2, I cannot see peoples love in for 3-5-2 at all. Still don't rate Whitbread, he only knows one way which is stupid long balls. At one point Wood got frustrated with him and asked for the ball on the floor. Did Dyer even touch it? Meh. Kasper was a positive, as was James who is clearly our best midfielder. I'll have to disagree about Whitbread, obviously it's only a preseason game but that's the best performance I've seen him put in,there was a few times where I was panicking because he was being closed quickly and he passed it out.
kylestyle06 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 It's all a ploy, play poor look uninterested to everyone watching all over the world, Middlesborough think they've won already and we catch them by surprise

I'd agree with that, made some lovely passes.
Father Ted Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Massive overreaction about Whitbread! His distribution was solid today, positioning was good and always made sure to track his man. Can't fault him at all today, was hoping he would have stayed on instead of SSL.
connorlcfc Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I know people will say 'it's just a friendly', but we did not look anywhere near ready there. Lack of appetite and clearly no idea of who or what system we're gonna play. tell me about it , we played dreadful for he most part of it
kingfox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 3-5-2 worked well in the first half, it wasn't great but it was reasonable. Far better than 4-3-3 & 4-4-2 we played in the second half. Positives for me were the defence, yes we conceded two goals but one was from a set piece. I thought Whitbread played really well, apart from being at fault for the second goal for not getting close enough. Morgan & St Ledger looked comfortable as did Moore when he came on. De Laet played well, but his crossing was poor, James got stuck in and passed well, while Vardy for the first 20-25 minutes, impressed me. In terms of bad performances in the first half, Konchesky & Drinkwater were the worse. Second half was a bag of shit though, the midfield was absolutely diabolical, Drinkwater & Danns looked bloody lost, and didn't know what to do with it, gave it away so many times, that pass from Danns around 70 mins when he gave it straight to them, was bloody shocking. Drinkwater & Danns were crap, and one of them has to go. Knockaert did bugger all, as did Marshall, who was probably the best of a bad bunch second half. Waghorn had no service and I felt sorry for him, while finally Schlupp had a mare at left-back. 3-5-2 is a must, and Danns or Drinkwater need to be sold asap.
Rincewind Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 The manager team will learn a lot more from the game than the fans. It is them that have to work with them every day and motivate them to play. Monaco are a good side. The game was something to attract potential new ST holders. Quite a few Premiership and Championship sides would have liked the fixture even if the outcome was the same. I don't know the players well enough to rate them but I'm sure they won't play teams in the Monaco class throughout the season unless it's the top five in some cup competition which are famed for surprise results. So why not see how it goes before bringing out the guillotine
cc_star Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 A training match nothing more First half was key, second half was nothing more than fitness. First half our midfield a bit too deep, left forwards too isolated, meant our attacks weren't as worthwhile as they might have been. also meant they had too much room for their obvious quality to do damage. SSL & Konchesky liabilities even in the training match. Can't comment on second half as purely about giving players a run out which they had. Roll on next week.
Rincewind Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 We had cameras and TV money something we would not have had with some average Prem or champ side.
Father Ted Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I genuinely wish I'd switched it off when Ga££agher came on like I said I would pre-match
Guest shearfox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 We had cameras and TV money something we would not have had with some average Prem or champ side. Exactly, it generated money for the club and it is good to see us play some of Europes best. Monaco will be well up there this season.
Spiritwalker Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Why are we giving game time to players who will not be involved this season? Gallagher may as well pull his pants down and show the crowd his arse. Danns would have a better pass completion rate if he was made to play blindfolded. I doubt either will play once the season starts, so why waste valuable warm up games on them?
Stuliasz Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 The players were in 'friendly' mode i.e. less movement off the ball, less chasing of the ball, less desire to block long range efforts, track back or overlap (De Laet excepted). Do this against a side which has some top drawer players in and you are always likely to get done with the odd bit of quality. Can't read a lot into today at all and those who do are just fooling themselves. I'd expect considerably more of all of the above when the season starts.
LCFC FOX Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Outclassed but not disappointed losing 3-0 to a side of that quality
johnny the fox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I would much rather see some of the young lads.. who are not cynical and still have ambition..
Bert Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Personally don't think he knows his best formation or best eleven. James and Marshall were our two best players. Drinky was steady. Waghorn, Dyer and Danns were an embarrassment. Dyer makes it so hard for anyone to work with at times. Whitbread needs to stop trying to get in front of his man, that's where he comes unstuck.
