Corky Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Just if Leicester fans were given the duty to support england away from home, blimey we'd so the home team an atmosphere! I'm sure there are words missing from that.
Danno Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 I'm sure there are words missing from that. It's Leicesterpool so obviously missing a lot of sense too.
Uncle Albert Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 I think I must be one of the few people who really doesn't rate Kyle Walker, think he is very poor defensively. Yeah I support Liverpool and I do prefer Glen Johnson to him but even Johnson has been poor and until the Man United game he had been very poor for Liverpool! England really need another quality right back, Walker had me on edge Friday night and that was against Moldova. Not happy about the thought of James Milner starting tomorrow night but I can understand why he will play, shame Hodgson sticks with him even though he hasn't started a single game for Man City this season, that reason alone should be good enough for him not starting. Typical Roy the Boy though.. One thing I will praise Hodgson on though, he is the first manager in English history to get Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard both playing well in the same side for England. I know it is working now because both Gerrard and Lampard have got older and both realise they aren't the hustle and bustle box to box midfielders anymore, they have both realised if one attacks then the other has to defend. With Wilshire in the midfield as well, both SG and FL are happy to let him do the running and supporting the attacks. Whenever England used to play 3 CMs before Wilshire, Gerrard and Lampard both used to think it was their responsibility to be the driving force, there was nobody else good enough ahead of them two. Now Wilshire has the quality, England look so much more settled in the middle of midfield. The problem for England right now is all the positions, Joe Hart doesn't look the cut anymore, Jagielka doesn't fulfill me with confidence, like I said about Johnson/Walker, left side of midfield or LW is a problem, yeah it worked v Moldova but we can't go to a World Cup with Ricky Lambert playing there, who's going to be England's number 9? Rooney, Sturridge or Lambert? Rooney plays to deep to be in that role for England, you need an out and out striker. Walcott is good for England but would like him to be put under pressure for his shirt from Sterling, Zaha, Townsend, Young and so on.. You should not start for England though unless you are starting for your club side. James Milner for me is a no no.
Fox92 Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 I don't rate Walker defensively either, but I don't think Johnson is any better. They are both steady, but I do think they are both very good going forward. Also, I don't rate Milner but I can just see him starting tomorrow because we go even more defensive away from home.
kingfox Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Yep the reason Milner plays, is more defensive work, he tracks back more than the attacking wingers of Walcott, Young for example. That's why Hodgson sticks by him in away games. I've not been impressed with Kyle Walker either recently, and I've never really rated Glen Johnson either in an England shirt. He is slack and struggles defensively as well in my opinion. If Micah Richards didn't get injured last season, he would have been my preference for right back, but due to injury he will be way down the pecking order now. That leaves us with Phil Jones who can play right-back, but in a friendly game I would call up Nathaniel Clyne and give him a go and see how he adapts.
Corky Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 It was suggested on TalkSport that Smalling may be selected at right back.
Father Ted Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Hart Jones Cahill Jagielka Cole Wilshere Lampard Gerrard Walcott Lambert Townsend
Leicesterpool Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Hart Jones Cahill Jagielka Cole Wilshere Lampard Gerrard Walcott Lambert Townsend Jones is injured!
Super_horns Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Quite a bit of pressure on a guy playing only his 3rd game for the country to lead the line in our biggest game of the group.
Strokes Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Hart Jones Cahill Jagielka Cole Wilshere Lampard Gerrard Walcott Lambert Townsend How depressing
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 I don't rate Walker defensively either, but I don't think Johnson is any better. Much rather have a match fit Micah Richards.
Fox92 Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Much rather have a match fit Micah Richards. Yeah I agree. Really used to like him, seems to have fallen for club and country.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 Yeah I agree. Really used to like him, seems to have fallen for club and country. Wasn't ever really in Mancini's plans. I imagine Pellegrini don't fancy him either. Best thing for him is to move on. He'd suit somewhere like Everton. Liverpool and Spurs have Johnson and Walker respectively and I couldn't see him at Utd or Chelsea. Maybe Arsenal though??
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 The obvious replacement for Welbeck is Agbonlahor. He's not even in the squad
Sharpe's Fox Posted 9 September 2013 Posted 9 September 2013 The obvious replacement for Welbeck is Agbonlahor. He's not even in the squad Gabby is currently being knighted for services to music, didn't you know?
Dan Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Walker's another over-rated player I agree. I think you could get away with his defensive deficiencies in a 3-5-2 though, playing say him and Baines as wing backs. I really think England ought to explore 3-5-2. Walker & Baines can both attack very well and our wide options are far from the best at the minute.
Uncle Albert Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 I wouldn't mind 3-5-2 but why would you play Baines over Ashley Cole? Ashley Cole is still in the top bracke when listing left backs, Baines isn't.
Dan Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 I wouldn't mind 3-5-2 but why would you play Baines over Ashley Cole? Ashley Cole is still in the top bracke when listing left backs, Baines isn't. In a 3-5-2 it'd be Baines every time as he offers more going forward and he's not bad defensively either. Cole's still a very good left back but he isn't what he was. For all my criticism of England, I think we're as good at left back as any side in the world.
Ric Flair Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 I don't rate Phil Jagielka at all, if he's the 2nd best centre back we have available for our national team then we've got 99 problems and he's all of them. I think James Milner will have a blinder tonight.
Uncle Albert Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Yeah Jagielka isn't the answer, I don't think anyway. Much prefer Lescott over him, but again Lescott isn't top International quality. I know people won't like this but if I was Hodgson I would be begging John Terry to comeback! Predicting a draw tonight, probably a bit like the Montenegro game, where we take the lead, have chances and them comeback and take a point. I know a point is ok and a loss would seriously dent our chances of automatic qualification but it's sad times when we don't think we can go to Ukraine and beat them..
marbelladave Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 I'm thinking of an England side something very much like this. Stockdale Naughton--Smalling--Lescott--Gibbs Milner--Rodwell Zaha--Young--Sinclair Sturridge Why? Because that is a side of decent, young(ish) players who have, and in some cases still are, warming the bench at big clubs, getting few starts and hardly ever getting one in a 'big' game. I accept that some of these players might not have what it takes to be true international class, but by not playing regularly in games that really matter they are not developing properly, so we might never know.
Dan Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 Begging to get Terry back isn't the answer either IMO. Hope to god Phil Jones can get himself in as a regular centre half at Man Utd, could benefit England massively.
Guest MattP Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 I'm thinking of an England side something very much like this. Stockdale Naughton--Smalling--Lescott--Gibbs Milner--Rodwell Zaha--Young--Sinclair Sturridge That is an awful side, at least 7 of that 11 are nowhere near good enough for International football. I'm not Rooney's biggest fan but Young, Sinclair and Zaha in the team over him? Behave. Stcokdale over Hart? Smalling over Cahill? Gibbs over Baines? Two centre midfielder who between them play 5 league games a season?
marbelladave Posted 10 September 2013 Posted 10 September 2013 The point is Matt that we really do not know how good some of those players would be if they were playing regularly. They are not, so you a right but think how good the more experienced players, i'm thinking Lescott, Milner or Young could have been if they had not been sitting on the bench for so much of their careers. Many of the younger players are now doing much the same thing, how many 'important' games are Smalling and Zaha going to start for United this season, for example? I picked an XI to illustrate a point, not because it is a great side, England have few enough good players as it is, shame to see so many being wasted by not getting to play for their clubs.
