????? Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Sad news! @JasonBourne1986: It's a sad day for Leicestershire sport with the news that Hinckley United are no longer. Reaction throughout the day on 104.9 FM.
indierich06 Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 A sad day. Been a long time coming by the sounds of things though.
leicsmac Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Bloody hell, only have that new stadium for a few years then this happens. Hopefully they'll be back as a phoenix club soon enough.
goose2010 Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Sad day and being from Hinckley it is a shame just a case of a badly ran club that just could afford the bills and your right they have done well to last this long. They should of never moved from their old stadium, putting it out of town decreased their popularity if you ask me. Rumours are that they are reforming but not sure if they will be using the ground or not.
DennisNedry Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Sad, but maybe a few will be down the City from now?
Tielemans63 Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Gutted. Used to play for the Knitter's youth team up at Sketchley's. Terrible news although I remember saying when they built the Marston's that that was a huge gamble.
Leicesterpool Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 I'm quite upset about this, but there is light at the of the tunnel Nuneaton Borough rised from the ashes and i'm sure Hinckley will aswell.
Finnaldo Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 It's such a shame what's happened here and to Kettering. In debt by £200,000, that could easily be paid off by most higher tier clubs. I've always wondered why the FA don't introduce a new tax where a small sum of the 2 top tier club's earnings go to a emergency bank that could be given to a club in danger of liquidation to keep them afloat. Some of the debts of lower league clubs are so tiny in comparison to big club's earning it's pathetic they don't receive any relief in hard times.

Sad but true.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 I've always thought this too, but at the same time its not other clubs' fault if another club is shoddily ran.

Unfortunately given the common mentality in football, it'd just be used as a cushion to spend outside of their own means. I can see the logic behind it but it's impossible to operate it fairly when in the long run it'll just do even more damage to the lower leagues. Really is a shame but it's been on the cards for a while now. Why they built that ground I will never know, poorly located and they were punching above their weight enough weren't they?
Mack Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Bad business practices lead to this, remember in the eyes of the rest of the World it's a business and if you make a mess they will treat you the same as Woolworths, Millets, Jessops etc etc.
Beliall Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 really sad to hear. hope they come back. maybe king power should buy them as well turn them into leicester B
ADK Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Kind of glad I won't have to hear about them heroically limiting their defeats to only 9-0 every weekend.
Stadt Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 What will Andy Gibbs do now?Haha, "Hinckley performed bravely, the result doesn't reflect the game."
Jimmy Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 10-15 years ago, when owned by a local we would of helped out, shame the Thai's couldn't sponsor their ground to help keep them afloat. Oadby Town the second biggest club in the county now?
Guest Bilo Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Such a shame the club couldn't have helped, perhaps setting them up as a feeder club and using their ground as the reserves base again.

Oadby Town the second biggest club in the county now? Barwell I think, they're in the Northern Premier.
Jimmy Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 Barwell I think, they're in the Northern Premier.but do they have several ex city players?
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 9 October 2013 Posted 9 October 2013 but do they have several ex city players? No, but that wasn't the question. Jon Stevenson is a part time trainer at The Gym on Causeway Lane, doesn't make that facility the biggest in Leicestershire.
