AKCJ Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 There has to be fans of this on here. Still in a state of shock at how good that was.
AKCJ Posted 1 January 2014 Author Posted 1 January 2014 I've got it recorded, don't give anything away. You're going to have to avoid this thread.
Guest Bilo Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I thought it was brilliant, myself. Gatiss and Moffat are very good writers indeed, and the programme is exceptionally smart, high quality TV. Thoroughly enjoyed tonight, and am looking forward to Sunday.
Happy Fox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Bloody fantastic looking forward to another epic episode on Sunday.
Len Finsbury Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I enjoyed it. I can understand why there's only a few episodes though. The two main stars are big business now compared to when it started.
Babylon Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Turned it off as it seemed a bit of a mess to be honest, might try again as I enjoyed the first series. Have the same feeling whenever I've stumbled across Dr Who, another Moffat mess.
indierich06 Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Turned it off as it seemed a bit of a mess to be honest, might try again as I enjoyed the first series. Have the same feeling whenever I've stumbled across Dr Who, another Moffat mess. Well, this episode was written by Mark Gattis, so nothing to do with Moffat really. All of the backlash towards the series opener seems to blame Moffat, when he had very little to do with it! I enjoyed it generally, it was all about the characters and the relationships between them, and I felt they really nailed that side of it. As for the bad stuff, I felt a bit short changed by the explanation of how Sherlock survived, and the secondary terrorism plot felt a little contrived really - it was blindingly obvious what was going to happen as soon as those two lads walked by John at the start of the epsiode. Plus they nicked the tube train idea straight out of V For Vendetta. Looking forward to Sunday's ep - the first episode felt almost like it was a filler, to introduce us to all the characters again before the series really gets going.
Guest ttfn Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Whisper it quietly, but I thought it was a bit boring. I enjoyed the first two series and will definitely be watching on Sunday but yesterday's episode was, in isolation, pretty disappointing as far as I'm concerned.
Nick Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I think they need to be careful not to move too far into the 'cheesy' side of the 'sherlock genre' they have created, however I did enjoy it for what it was.
AmyLGK Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I thought it was brilliant! I actually have it on again now as I'm "working" from home! Can't wait for Sunday when I assume we'll be meeting the new villian properly?? Benedict Cumberbatch is just simply AMAZING! (I love him in the new star trek film too) swoooon!
notnow john Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 After really enjoying the first two series I was a little disappointed, predictable and unnecessarily disjointed. Perhaps expecting too much.
rico Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 i thought it was poor by it's own standards that it set in the 1st 2 series
ithuriel Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 It was adequate, nothing more. Overly long and slightly fan baiting, a bit messy and disjointed too. Of the seven episodes so far, this one is the basement dweller of the lot but that is no bad thing I suppose.

I enjoyed the first two series and will definitely be watching on Sunday but yesterday's episode was, in isolation, pretty disappointing as far as I'm concerned. The thing that hit me most was the disappointing bomb sideshow - I watched the last episode of the second series yesterday (before this) and it all seemed a bit tame compared to the cleverness (is that a word?) of that episode. I can understand why they focussed more on the emotional side of things but it still seemed just to be setting it up for the next couple of episodes. I still enjoyed it, mind. It's still better than a lot of the stuff out there. Plus I liked the reference to Watson's moustache in the books
Sharpe's Fox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 It was alright. Made for the little fan girls who consider dry-humping the box set a must do daily ritual.
Dr The Singh Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 It was alright. Made for the little fan girls who consider dry-humping the box set a must do daily ritual. Agreed, massively over-hyped
Guest shearfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 It was good, but I expected better... I thought the whole thing that happened at the end of last season kind of dragged down the episode...
Captain... Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Just caught up on iPlayer I enjoyed it, but I get the comments that it was a bit disjointed, I liked the first explanation with Derren Brown, I was genuinely thinking wtf for that bit. I also liked the reaction to his second explanation, it's clever but a bit disappointing, which is how everyone will react to the explanation if it ever comes, there was so much speculation and someone somewhere must have got it, and unless it it is an absolute genius and completely unexpected explanation it will leave people disappointed at it being too simple, or overly complex. I think the bomb side plot was a nod to how some things are a lot simpler to resolve and don't always need a big complicated resolution, and maybe a hint on how he survived, in that he actually just jumped and survived.

I too thought wtf, but only because it was such a stupid explanation. Was mighty relieved when it transpired that it was supposed to be moronic.

That's what I meant by wtf, that it was such a stupid explanation, I liked the way they teased us through out, but feeling a little blue balled at the lack of climax.
Guest Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Don't think they'll ever tell us how he escaped death. Why would they? I enjoyed the episode but agree it wasn't as good as the first two series - that's no surprise they are some of the best TV that has been. Enjoyable and watchable and I'm waiting for the next episode. Is it this Sunday?
