Guest MattP Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 That's what I meant. Sorry it's been a long day.
purpleronnie Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 That's what I meant. Sorry it's been a long day. Oh ok, I don't necessarily disagree with a limit being set, but to receive nothing at all just seems to have a lack of humanity....but that's not happening so its a pointless arguement.
Captain... Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I said it earlier, child benefit shouldn't be monetary, it should be in the form of vouchers to ensure it can only be used to provide for the needs of the child and to ensure that no child grows up in poverty. Them little buggers are expensive, and I have no problem with the state helping out, but this would stop anyone who wants to use their children to provide for themselves from doing so, whilst those that need it to care for their kids will still get the care they need.

It has been tried in other areas of benefits, the Social services used to give baby milk vouchers to crack head mothers, the mothers just sold the vouchers and brought crack. I like your thinking though, instead of cash, giving them in a controlled way, what they need without exploitation and abuse.
Father Ted Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 How would you stop people's right to have children? Stop paying them such generous child benefits would be one measure. Look at the white couple on the show, moaning like mad that their child benefits were cut yet they gave £3.70 to that helmet fungi to go and get himself a can yet had no money to buy necessities from the 50p man. These families will drain the system for years. Perhaps a new system of vouchers would work better making sure that people spend their child benefits on necessities and not drugs and alcohol.
Webbo Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I don't understand why everyone is so shocked by this? It's not as if James Turner Street is the only street like this in the UK, there are streets in Highfields which are just as bad. If it was possible, I'd stop most of them from having children. Parents are filth, 9/10 times the children follow suit. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Is anyone actually shocked though? It was nothing I didn't expect except maybe blatantly breaking the law in front of the cameras.

Big Dave Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Benefits Street is very similar to Sesame Street. Both have a big bird, a bloke living out of a bin, and people trying to learn the alphabet.

Merging Cultures Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 my mate's on the dole. she's my friend with benefits, eh eh ...........I'll get my coat My wife and I laughed too hard at this. Very good.

DennisNedry Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/jan/18/bbc-rejected-benefits-street-two-years-ago It's not surprising that the BBC rejected the show is it? They are a very left wing organisation, it is against their interests to televise these kind of benefit claimants.

The Blur Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 http://www.parasite-street.co.uk/ An antidote to Benefits Street.
MooseBreath Posted 20 January 2014 Author Posted 20 January 2014 Tried to open that website on my phone, it looks terrible and I can't even read half of it. Seems like it was probably designed by one of these peasants who has been through an IT skills course through the job centre. The content is obviously laughable but then I get the impression that even the writers know they're talking a lot of nonsense.
Jon the Hat Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Why do lefties keep talking about benefit fraud? Those benefit fraud stats dont include the vast majority of scummers who are raising their kids on benefits or who cant be bothered to work. We are targetting all of it, not just the fraud. While I am at it, the tax avoidance figures are also utter nonsense. Oh well.
danny. Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 I don't get that a lot of people justify complete scum by saying there are rich scum too - yes of course they are, it doesn't make either end OK though.
Finnaldo Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 So is no one going to abandon the leftie/rightie merry-go-round and realise that both set are a load of knobs?
Rincewind Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 It's not surprising that the BBC rejected the show is it? They are a very left wing organisation, it is against their interests to televise these kind of benefit claimants. As opposed to channel four who are right wing and fits in with their beliefs? Could it not be that the BBC thought it was an unbalanced idea? I have always said benefit fraud is wrong. I do not justify it. But many hard working families are being hit as well as those just outside the threshold. Child care costs are not cheap if a working mother is only able to do part time. Many would like to work but they cannot afford full time carers. Like others have said there are scum both ends but the focus is aimed at the lower paid workers and those in power have turned people against each other which deflects attention from those at the top who are also robbing the country of taxes.

Here's a question Ken: you're put in charge of dealing with benefit frauds, what would you do? You are allowed to do whatever you please with them.
Guest MattP Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 I can't wait for the upcoming MattP response. Unfortunately like Moose I'm on a phone and can barely make sense of it. Would love to know how they calculate it mind? If its fraud its surely not going to be known to the authorities?
ADK Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 It's the banks that have caused the recession. Therefore it is bizarre the amount of attention given over to people claiming benefit. I can't remember many topics on banks but we get 10+ page topics on benefits all the time.
