Dan Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Qatar '2022' World Cup To Be Played In Winter Just been announced it won't be in the summer. They're a joke.
indierich06 Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 So why, when it was blatently obvious at the time that it would be too hot to be staged during the summer, was the World Cup awarded to Qatar? Absolutely disgusted - they've made hosting the tournament in a certain country more of a priority than the tournament itself, all to please a few oil barons. I'll watch this year's World Cup in Brazil, but after that I'm done with international football, well and truly.
MC Prussian Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 It's supposed to be played anywhere in between the 15th of November 2022 and the 15th of January 2023. There goes the Winter Break for most European football leagues - and the FA will have a tremendous task at their hands shuffling winter fixtures around or even prolonging that season or starting it earlier. Why going to all these great lengths and still justify a World Cup in Qatar? £££. They're hardly going to tear down all the stadia they've built or are in the process of building now, are they? Shame about all the migrant workers who will still be exploited for this farce of a tournament. Best choice would be for most footballing countries to boycott Qatar altogether.
Jace Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Well that our Premiership 2021/22 season title campaign ruined we will never regain momentum after a 4 week international break

I'll watch this year's World Cup in Brazil, but after that I'm done with international football, well and truly. After the next Euros for me. After that, a 2018 Russia World Cup, a 2020 'multiple hosts' Euros and now this utter shambles '2022/23' 'World' Cup. It's absolute shit and I'd be completely behind the FA if they boycotted it.
ousefox Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 ****ing disgusting. Fifa obviously has massive problems. I would love us to boycott it. I absolutely love the World Cup but it's just a joke now. Giving it to ill-prepared countries like Brazil, as well as giving to Russia and Quatar over a host of countries who were well prepared and would use the stadiums after is a disgrace. As much as I enjoy watching the World Cup, I hope we make a stand and refuse to enter the competition.
AndWhat? Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Joke. Didn't Australia say they'll sue if this gets moved?? Good luck to em!
Strokes Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Should we expect the world to fit around our timetable? the premier league/fa could always breakaway from fifa if they get enough support, we arent the only nation to be put out.
Captain... Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 A sad day in football, this really could be the straw that break's the camels back, I could see a number of national FAs and leagues seek to split from FIFA in the not too distant, I can't think of any country, other than Qatar, that is going to be happy about this. Would fully support any sort of protest movement.
Bert Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 It's a joke. But it's 8 years away. Bigger things to worry about.

Harry - LCFC Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Anyone think it all possible that it'll get taken from Qatar? If they're prepared to make one adjustment would they go one step further? Not that I'm particularly hopeful myself.
Dan Posted 8 January 2014 Author Posted 8 January 2014 Who's announced it? is this definate? Announced by one of them that it'll be played from November 15th-January 15th, so it's officially a 2022/23 World Cup. Absolutely appalling that this has been allowed to happen. FIFA have absolutely sold the game for their own gain. They're all absolute scum. Anyone think it all possible that it'll get taken from Qatar? If they're prepared to make one adjustment would they go one step further? Not that I'm particularly hopeful myself. If the FA's for the major nations threaten with boycotts then it's possible. Can see a lot of them being sweet-talked (or in FIFA terms, bribed) to pipe down though.

The Blur Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Who's announced it? is this definate? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25653594 FIFA said it is definitely going not be held in summer. Could be between November and January now.

Samilktray Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Sepp Blatter is somewhere in the world, eating the finest lobster, snorting the highest quality cocaine like
Alf Bentley Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 What an absolute disgrace! I wonder which legal system this decision would come under? The Swiss legal system (as FIFA is based there)? The International Criminal Court? Surely there would now be a strong case for the bidding and award process to be deemed illegal, even fraudulent, as various countries will have incurred significant expenditure based on the assumption that they were bidding for a summer World Cup? The World Cup should always go to a country where there is a minimum level of interest in football with the prospect of boosting that interest, where the appropriate infrastructure can be provided and where fans from around the world can come together and be well catered for. There also has to be a very good reason for it to move from summer in the Northern Hemisphere (from which most teams come) - "failing to realise" that the Middle East is hot in the summer is not a good reason! On what grounds are some people against Russia 2018, though? Obviously, I'd have preferred it to have been in England, but we were beaten into last place in the voting. Russia is a major country with a lot of interest in football and should have no trouble providing the appropriate infrastructure. The Putin regime is very unappealing and Russia has some serious social problems, but that could have been said about South Africa 2010 and Argentina 1978, to name just two. Also, to be fair to the "sport can be a good influence on politics" brigade, Putin has released the Greenpeace protesters, the Pussy Riot women and his rival Khordokovsky in the runup to the Sochi Winter Olympics (maybe just coincidence, maybe not).

If the FA's for the major nations threaten with boycotts then it's possible. Can see a lot of them being sweet-talked (or in FIFA terms, bribed) to pipe down though. It will be an intersting power battle between FIFA and the Premier League, with the FA stuck in the middle. It will be the Premier League that stands to lose out the most with this disrupting the festive period, a lot of other European leagues have winter breaks of around 1 month, so it would only cause a minor disruption, I'm not sure how South American leagues are structured, African and Asian leagues are largely irrelevant as the majority of their internationals play in Europe. At the last world cup 106 players played in the premier league, nearly 10 full teams, this will either cause a massive split, or will see the premier league reduced to 18 teams and introduce a winter break like the rest of Europe. All of this for a nation with a footballing history that dates back to the 50s, and has only had an FA since 1970, and the first Qatar league in 1972, there are a lot of posters on here older than the Qatar league. In fact the only significant contribution they have made to football, is being the shittest team on the first ever FIFA. "thunk"..."thunk"...."thunk" The sound of more nails being driven into the coffin of what was once the beautiful game.
Hollism Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Jerome Valcke has said it will be played for 30 days between November 15th and January 15th. Fvck it- let's have the world cup final at 9am Christmas Day

Would fully support any sort of protest movement. Hopefully, it's about time nations actually made an effort to withdraw themselves from FIFA and put some pressure on this corrupt organisation. What?! So Europe or South American nations shouldn't be able to host World Cups? That's a ridiculous thing to say.

Kitchandro Posted 8 January 2014 Posted 8 January 2014 Not only have they ruined the world cup, they've shat all over at least one of our domestic seasons as well.
