M0901 Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 I've seen a fair few posts here, but one player who isn't receiving the credit he deserves is Danny Drinkwater. I seriously can't think of a better midfielder in this league, his eagerness to want the ball, the way he links defence and attack, and how he keeps possession under immense pressure. Best since Muzzy, dare I say, in the form he's been in anyway.

Lionator Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 Best since Muzzy, dare I say, in the form he's been in anyway. Outrageous statement. Never be better than Jason Jarrett.
KFS Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 He orchestrates so many flowing moves, he's fookin' everywhere. Complemented very well by Matty James.
kingfox Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 He and James are performing the best midfield partnership I have seen for some time. I'm just flabbergasted by Drinkwater's transformation this season, from a player who really struggled at times last season & probably deserved the criticism he got. However right now, you cannot fault the lad, player of the month, continued his form last night by controlling our midfield, and making Bryson, Hughes and Hendrick look average. He has turned into a forward thinking midfielder, who is much calmer on the ball, and is a key influence in our midfield.
Tom17LCFC Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 Have people forgotten how good Drinkwater was in the first-half of last season? Not as good as he is now but still very good. People seemed to completely write him off because he had a shit second half of the season, but who in our squad didn't? Love him.
AKCJ Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 If he continues his form into the PL could we see an England call up for him?

Guest shearfox Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 Wouldn't be surprised, Cleverley gets called up after allHe gets the mandatory call up because he plays for Man U...I did already show some love to Drinky, in the thread I created...

First half of last season he was a forward thinking midfielder, he's back to that form and gone beyond it. When he lost confidence he looked awful, but the other year he's been here he's been superb. He just didn't have Nigel Clough telling everyone how amazing he is like Hughesy (who is still in Drinky's pocket I think).
Langston Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 at the original post - the boy's getting loads of (merited) credit! The key with him was always finding consistency, he set himself an outrageously high standard before we imploded. For two thirds of his time with us he's been absolutely marvellous, and on current form wouldn't look out of place in the PL. Seeing him glide around last night just enjoying himself was an absolute joy to watch, recycles the ball so efficiently and effectively. I ****ing love our side at the moment.

He was good in the first half of last season, I said that myself that time last year *cough* Babylon. A lot of our team were poor in the second half of last season, and looked a shadow of the team which performed excellently in the first half of the campaign. But I think the reason with Drinkwater, is that he was the player we'd look to, to control our midfield, make us tick & definitely a player we relied on, but due to his form turning bad, we as a team failed to perform well, because he wasn't giving out the service & forward thinking passing he was doing in the first half of the season, he was very slow & very negative. But right now, he's turned his fortunes around again, and like I've said before, when he was playing well, I really hope his form continues. He is an instrumental part of our side at the minute.

Sharpe's Fox Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 In a couple of years Drinky will be packing for Euro 2016 and find an old pair of LCFC shorts in the back of the wardrobe, shaking out the pockets out will come a Chupa Chup lolly, a 20 pence piece and Craig Bryson.
Father Ted Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 Can anybody remember which 'pundit' said that Derby have the best midfield in the league by a longshot? Man to man, no other midfielder in this league would get into ours, genuinely. We have the two best wingers by a country mile and the Championship's versions of Stevie G and Scholes in our midfield.

Stadt Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 Derby's 'young side full of potential' get a right media rimming yet our side is very young look at James, Drinky and Knocky. No doubt Hughes has got potential but he's certainly overhyped to the point people think he's going to be one of the worlds best. Right now I know which midfield I'd rather have.
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 I said after about ten games in, last season, that Drinkwater will be the future of our midfield. Then he went shite (and he was, along with most others). I then allowed Kingfox to persuade me that I was wrong all along and that he was no good. I won't make THAT mistake again..

I can remember when Drinkwater was top of my victims list. Those were the days
