Guest Col city fan Posted 11 January 2014 Posted 11 January 2014 I am sorry Col. I can remember when Drinkwater was top of my victims list. Those were the days No worries buddy. No-one could have predicted that calamitous slide could they and its still pretty inexplicable. Too much youth, not enough Championship experience, Chris Wood, Harry Kane, Filbert Fox or Roy Cropper? Who knows? It dont matter now though!!
Alfie_flowers Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 how far do we think danny drinkwater and matty james can go playing together and can they make the leap in top flight together. Basically both matty and danny played for england in the youths for a few years so were obviously highy touted as one of the best in the country for their ages, and both wer at man utd. surely its a strong possibilty that if we keep them and they both keep fulfilling there potential then they could become a very strong force? and after the derby game on sky i aint saw us play football like that for a while.
Vlad the Fox Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 I've every confidences this midfield can make the step up. Man United didn't want to sell James but the lad wanted first team football. I think he too could be getting a cap one day.
Bert Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 He and James are performing the best midfield partnership I have seen for some time. I'm just flabbergasted by Drinkwater's transformation this season, from a player who really struggled at times last season & probably deserved the criticism he got. However right now, you cannot fault the lad, player of the month, continued his form last night by controlling our midfield, and making Bryson, Hughes and Hendrick look average. He has turned into a forward thinking midfielder, who is much calmer on the ball, and is a key influence in our midfield. I take it you didn't watch him the first half of last season when he was just as good?
kingfox Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 I take it you didn't watch him the first half of last season when he was just as good? Of course I did, and I have commented about him being good in the first half of the season before. And when replying to Corky in this thread.
foxfanazer Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 He does get a lot of praise on here to be honest (especially from me). Must've voted him MOTM in abt least 12 matches so far this season, I'm boring myself Top player and seems to be improving all the time, his key improvement being consistency

billfryers Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Danny Drinkwater is my favorite player completely controls our midfield and tempo like scholes did for Man U. If hes playing well our whole team seems to play well. easily better than Tom Cleverly and good enough for the prem.
cityfanlee23 Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 I've seen a fair few posts here, but one player who isn't receiving the credit he deserves is Danny Drinkwater. I seriously can't think of a better midfielder in this league, his eagerness to want the ball, the way he links defence and attack, and how he keeps possession under immense pressure. Best since Muzzy, dare I say, in the form he's been in anyway. You're not from round here are you?
Babylon Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Of course I did, and I have commented about him being good in the first half of the season before. You shouldn't be flabbergasted then really.
Dan Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 If he continues his form into the PL could we see an England call up for him? I think there's a couple in our squad who are closer to it than you'd think, as ridiculous as it sounds.
Lionator Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 I think there's a couple in our squad who are closer to it than you'd think, as ridiculous as it sounds. As we've seen from Lambert & Lallana, get off to a good start and people will start talking.
Dickov22 Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Drinkwater wasn't shit last season. He was pretty brilliant up until January, then the whole team completely lost form, confidence and became tired. His loss of form was no worse than anyone else's. Near the start of this season I said he reminded me of Neil Lennon and a few people criticised me. I stand by it- he gets his body in between the ball and his man exactly the way Lennon used to- he's got such strength for a small bloke just like Lennon had. His distribution is probably better than Lennon's. He's a top player and has scored a few this season also. I can't understand a lot of people on here. Someone has a few average games eg Drinkwater last season, Nugent this season, and they are strung up on here. Form comes and goes, it's impossible to be 100 % in every game. Good players don't become bad players overnight. People need to be patient more. It's football fans (and owners with managers) biggest problem. They're so often not.
Lambert09 Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Makes me laugh that some people think he could get an England call up.... How is he any where near the standards of Gerard, lampard,, wilshere, Barkley, even Gareth Barry is miles ahead.. Words can't describe how ridiculous you people sound... He's playing well in the championship.. Chill out
allotment-fox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Dannys made of strong stuff and will keep improving this seasons form is far better than last by a country mile, lets face it if he keeps improving and plays next season with a better crop of players around him things can only get better so lets wait and see.

He's playing well in the championship.. Chill out Makes me laugh that you'd write him off in favour of players who regularly don't turn up for England. No-one's said he should be getting a call up. But could he? Time will tell but I see no reason why not in the future.

He's playing well in the championship.. Chill out What about the likes of Lallana, Lambert and Rodriguez? They were playing in the championship a couple of years ago. Should we get promoted and Danny performs to a high standard there is no saying he won't get a call up. I mean Cleverley is a regular feature for goodness sake.
Corky Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 I reckon James or Drinkwater could turn out to be better players than Cleverley in time, no doubt both will forge careers in the top flight, hopefully with us.
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Who can have the faintest fookin clue whether Drinkwater will play for England? Talk about bigging a player up! He could improve steadily or like many others he could turn out to be an average Premiership midfielder. Lets hope its for us, starting next season, but there are a million and one things that could blight his England chances... a nasty injury, etc etc. One thing is true. .. for him to have a shout hes gotta be getting regular Premier football in a decent side.
Bryn Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 De Laet, James and Drinkwater will cope the best with the PL, I think.
foxfanazer Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 De Laet, James and Drinkwater will cope the best with the PL, I think.Yep and Knockaert imo. I also think Vardy could surprise a few people, it would take some time for him maybe but his pace will scare even premiership defenders

Danny was fast becoming my fave leicester player last season but he lost his way... I was worried that he might be leaving because his form was so bad, thought he must have had a fall out or wasn't happy to be at the club.. So happy he's proving his worth now, quality player! Was it all cock and bull at the start of the season he was surplus to requirements?

Dan Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Yep and Knockaert imo. I also think Vardy could surprise a few people, it would take some time for him maybe but his pace will scare even premiership defenders I think a lot of them would compete. I could accept being turned inside out by Aguero and Suarez - 90% of defenders in the league are. You put us up against Norwich, Cardiff, Palace or Fulham at the minute, who would you fancy? I don't think there's much in it personally. I think if the likes of Dyer & Vardy keep up this form then they'd actually succeed for us in the top flight and you'd never ever have imagined that twelve months ago. I certainly wouldn't.
