Wes Morgan

Hopefully this is captain leading by example. With Wes Morgan's big presence as captain in the squad hopefully this will encourage some of the others to sign on if they have been put forward new deals. Good news and a moral booster ahead of Leeds. Don't know why we didn't use this clause sooner though...

With regards to Nugent I don't think there's any chance of him leaving this month - especially to forest - and I would expect him to be offered a new deal as well.

Premise 1 - Big Wes wants a new contract.

Premise 2 - Big Wes gets contract extension.

Conclusion - A striker is going to leave.

That appears to be your logic and I have no idea how you came to that conclusion!

This. I was left baffled when I read that comment. The sequence of logic implied was unlike anything I'd seen before.

Absolutely fantastic - hopingly it will have a domino impact and the rest follow one by one over the coming days. Great tonic for the Leeds game.

Does this mean he hasn't had to take the pay cut his mrs was moaning about on twitter?

Looks to me like we've had an offer from somebody and we've sorted his contract just to make sure he doesn't leave, looked pretty nailed on he'd have to take a pay cut a couple of months ago

Glad he's staying though!

Not sure why Wes would need to take a pay cut as his contract initially was sorted out by Pearson (ok I know Neville will have done the legal stuff), so I don't suspect he'd have come to us on the same wages as the Eriksson signings.

Well his Mrs was going nuts on twitter a couple of months ago claiming the contract we were offering him wouldn't enable them to feed their kids

FFS, if we had the option to extend it by a year, why have we fvcked about so long in doing so, I can understand why Wes was getting pissed off, it's not like there is any negotiation in this case, it was written into his contract, and a mere formality.

Good news, but come on city, don't fvck around.

I'm completely speculating obviousy but...we didn't plan to renew if we were still in the Champ. We are now in a position and/or he has got to the point where he has issued an ultimatum where we are happy to trigger that clause because we think that we need him regardless or we think we are on the way up.

But it seems a no brainer to me, extend the contract and then renegotiate in the summer once we know which league we will be in.

We need to save £5m + next year, if we were in this division then we'd end up paying him wages we might not be able to afford. Because he's not going to negotiate a good wage for a shit one when still in contract.

Maybe the clause only came in after a certain date and Wes was in the press to suggest to the club that when clause comes into action he wants it as soon as he possibly can?

Very good news though, hopefully a few more will follow now! Especially, Kasper, Lloyd and Nuge.

Just out of interest, if Konch had a similar clause would people take it up? Personally think I would, good enough for the Championship (if we don't go up) and more than able back up in the Premier League (IF we do go up).

But if we couldn't afford him on the contract he was on if we were in the Champ next year that's my point.

Leicester City can confirm that an option has been activated in the contract of captain Wes Morgan, extending his current deal with the Club to June 2015.
The Club has also opened discussions with the player’s representatives to extend his stay beyond this date. Negotiations on a new contract are on-going.

Morgan, 29, has made 97 appearances for City since joining the Club from Nottingham Forest in January 2012, including 27 this season during the Foxes’ ascent to the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

The fact that we've activated a clause means he wasn't accepting doesn't it? So we've tied him down for the same wage?
