The fact that we've activated a clause means he wasn't accepting doesn't it? So we've tied him down for the same wage?

Doesn't mean he didn't accept it, probably means he's on the same as he was on last time, maybe a bit more. Sure he's happy here, Pearson would definitely not want any aggravation in the dressing room so he wouldn't go through if a player wasn't happy.

When he signed as you know this clause would've been inserted. We have activated it and because back then he agreed to it he can't do anything.

Looking like he's going to be signing a new one though, probably an extra 2 years which would run to 2017.

or takes the pressure off of both sides during negotiations

FFS, if we had the option to extend it by a year, why have we fvcked about so long in doing so, I can understand why Wes was getting pissed off, it's not like there is any negotiation in this case, it was written into his contract, and a mere formality.

Good news, but come on city, don't fvck around.

I actually think they have managed his expectations pretty well.

If we offer contract extension straight away first thing his agent will do is haggle for more. This way he is actually grateful for extension

Phew.

Mrs Morgan will not be going without that Louis Vuitton bag, the holiday in the Carribean and the Range Rover Sport for at least another year then. Must have been a torrid couple of months for her until this was sorted today.

He'll be on the same wage which I think was a wage we were looking to reduce if we didn't get promoted so I would see this as a positive step. Give him a few months to see how he gets on in the prem too before we sign him up for longer. Most contracts will have a Wage increase based on promotion written into it anyway so this shouldn't really change a lot....

City are also in talks with the centre-back's representatives over a new two-and-a-half-year deal.

City have already rejected a £2million offer from Fulham for Morgan's defensive partner, Liam Moore, and insist he is not for sale.

However, reports suggest the Cottagers are preparing a second bid of £3m for the highly-rated 20-year-old defender, who is one of the hottest young prospects in the Championship.

I'm thinking the same. The club needs to reduce the wage bill and using this clause makes me think, that Morgan was not prepared to take a wage cut for his extension, in the case of us not getting promoted. Hopefully we will get promoted and this whole contract situation can be adressed properly.

Hopefully it hasn't given him ptsd.

With all those players with contracts running out we will be able to reduce the wage bill, Danns being a big one to get rid of. Morgan was signed by Pearson so I wouldn't expect him to be on the same as Kasper and Nugent, he is the first of those I would get signed up and the last I would be asking for a wage drop. I'm not sure about Dyer was he offered a big contract by Sven?

If we need to cut the wage bill then I would see binning Danns, Gallagher, SSL, Whitbread and unless he turns it around waghorn too as the place to start.

Then I would be looking at Konch and Nugent, are they really value for money if they are on what we think they are on, and can younger better cheaper replacements be found. Kasper is a tough one, love the guy, think he is a great keeper, but if you are asking Konch and Nugent to take a cut then you need to ask Kasper too, as the last of the Sven era signings. I would love to actually know the wages and see what the differences are.

Hold on... didnt you tell us in the holiday thread that you were planning a jaunt to South America this year? How are you paying for that? Monopoly money?

If this clause existed this could be why Wes was feeling uneasy regarding contract negotiations not starting as if I was hi I would have probably been wondering why this clause hadn't already been taken advantage of.
