Manwell Pablo Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 And yet the statue Stoke had is one of him lifting the Jules Rimet trophy which he didn't win for Stoke, with Stoke, or even when he was playing for Stoke. Your whole argument seems to be that he should be considered more Stoke than Leicester, because he won a few more individual honours, he made 293 appearances over 8 years at Leicester (194 over 5 years at Stoke)*, a period which included him getting called up to the England team and winning the World Cup. He is more Leicester than Stoke, but I don't see why he can't be a legend at both clubs, hell he can be a legend at Chesterfield, Rawmarsh Welfare and Millspaugh for all I care, he is an English world cup winner, he played the majority of his career for Leicester, we should celebrate that. *stats from wikipedia so possibly only league appearances, the number isn't that important what is is that he played for us longer than anywhere else. That's where you're wrong isn't it Captain jump in and argue without reading the thread.
Captain... Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 That's where you're wrong isn't it Captain jump in and argue without reading the thread. You're right, you're just arguing for the sake of it, my mistake. Carry on.
MC Prussian Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Great idea. However, I would find a commemorative "wall" depicting all past LCFC much more suitable. There's indications of that at Brighton. Bournemouth have murals with previous squads from their past outside the Goldsands. In the end, it shouldn't be limited to Banks only. It would be a first step in improving the stadium and its immediate vicinity, that's for sure.

As a statue I can't think of anyone more deserving a genuine footballing legend, that and the statue already exists and is looking for a decent home, makes sense to me.
Manwell Pablo Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 You're right, you're just arguing for the sake of it, my mistake. Carry on. Incorrect, I am merely attempting to put to bed the myth that Gordon Bank's enjoyed much success at Leicester City. Criminal that he didn't win more in his career really. Perhaps the Express felt sorry for him.
LCCFox96 Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Great idea to have a statue of Gordon Banks outside. It would look much more classy and traditional than those elephants.
Babylon Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Great idea to have a statue of Gordon Banks outside. It would look much more classy and traditional than those elephants. I thought it was john merrick.
Babylon Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Why did Stoke get rid of it anyway? There were only 4 fingers and a thumb on each hand and they thought it was a mistake.
Manwell Pablo Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 There were only 4 fingers and a thumb on each hand and they thought it was a mistake. I thought they had decided to bin it off in favor of one where he is lifting his Daily Express Sportsman of the year awards (1971,1972)
Quorndon_Fox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Get him to the KP. Never understood why we haven't had statues of our great put up around the ground. Start with Banks outside the shop then 3 more in the corners of city legends.
Kitchandro Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Great idea. However, I would find a commemorative "wall" depicting all past LCFC much more suitable. There's indications of that at Brighton. When people walk to the ground I want them to see the statue from a distance. I want it to be the centre of attention.
Banks Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Would be brill if a Banks statue was outside the KP instead of those bloody elephants!
Raj Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Prefer one of claridge with his socks down. He won us promotion and our first cup.
jonthefox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 The owners will give us what we want. Banks first, but who second?.
Langston Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 As funny as all these hilarious suggestions for statues are, it is detracting from the actual story, there is a statue of Banks out there, in a school, the artist wants us to display it outside the stadium, ex players want it to be displayed outside the stadium, I would have thought the fans do too, but they seem too busy trying to be funny. Christ on a bike, what is wrong with you?
Langston Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Going off the suggestion that people would like more than one statue - Walsh's pose after netting against Derby is ready made for one.
davieG Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 It's not really a case of who do you want as this statue of Banks already exists and cost £85000 6 years ago and that's without the cost of a plinth. Any new statue is going to cost circa 100 grand and I can't see the fans raising that amount. So all people need to think about is do they want this statue of Banks or not, seems like a no brainer to me.
fuchsntf Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Prefer one of claridge with his socks down. He won us promotion and our first cup. Wrong he didnt win us our 1st cup!!!!! Shame on you.
Raj Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Shame on YOU...i meant first cup when i was born!!!!.....
fuchsntf Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Shame on YOU...i meant first cup when i was born!!!!.....No 'since' you was born, so such an 'old miserable git you aint'Loved Claridge, but he is well down the statue list, we have had many great loved players..but Banks stands out above them all. Long standing International player before he left, arguably involved in the top 5-10 games Leicester ever played.(though MONS ERA produced some top games). Definitely 8-15 games England ever played. The 3 Ws Weller Worthington and Whitworth produced great memories, but even above Shilton, and Wallington, GORDON BANKS record, stats, history, is well above all. Like VCs you cant give and build statues to Mr everyman. ' jesus saves but Banks Holds the rebounds' was the original.
Rob1742 Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I wouldn't want it. To me a legend would be someone who did extremely well while playing here, but the who still supported and got involved with the club afterwards. He doesn't come to our matches, so it would appear he is not a real fan and so I am not sure I would choose him for a statue.
fuchsntf Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 This thread takes one back. There was a time England had a choice of 4-6 quality goalkeepers, over maybe 3-4 decades.

He doesnt need to be a fan, it was his performances representing this club on and off the field, while a player...
