Fox92 Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Manwell Pablo, on 03 Feb 2014 - 2:34 PM, said:He didn't win that "with us" though did he, not success he had "with" Leicester City, but while at Leicester City, difference. Where as the majority of his Goal Keeper of the year awards we're won through playing with Stoke. But he was a Leicester City player. A Leicester City player (especially an English player) winning the World Cup won't happen again.
Carl the Llama Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I can't think of a better person than Gordon for a statue - despite being born long after he retired, he's always been my idol as arguably England's best ever goalkeeper. I didn't even find out he was a former City player until much later, imagine how chuffed I was! The fact that a statue of him already exists and is potentially available makes it a no-brainer. It certainly doesn't belong at Stoke: It would be acceptable if he wasn't holding the Jules Rimet in it, but for me that's a game changer - at the Brittania it would look like they're taking the the credit for producing a World Cup winning goalkeeper. Maybe that was something they considered when they decided to send it to his school.
Captain... Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Christ on a bike, what is wrong with you? Probably been around this place far too long, get bored of seeing the same unimaginative jokes over and over again.
Langston Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Probably been around this place far too long, get bored of seeing the same unimaginative jokes over and over again. Ha, that's fair enough!
Hugo Sanchez Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 I wouldn't want it. To me a legend would be someone who did extremely well while playing here, but the who still supported and got involved with the club afterwards. He doesn't come to our matches, so it would appear he is not a real fan and so I am not sure I would choose him for a statue. Complete lie, he does go to our matches alot actually. I know this for a fact because he's goes with another ex City player ( Colin Appleton I think ) He meets him at the old post house on Narborough Rd for half a Boddingtons before the game.
ozleicester Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Greatest goalkeeper in history, Leicester legend, world cup winner.... if there is to be a statue at the ground, "Banks of England" is the one it should be
suffolk fox Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Silly idea where does this stop? Arthur Rowley should have a statue because of his goal scoring record for us.
suffolk fox Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Also proves this thread a lot of people do not go to the ground very often cos the elephants have long gone.
nealsimbo Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 He seems to prefer watching stoke city so not to bothered.
Beliall Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 theres a joke somewhere in here about banks statue and a great save, but i cant put it together
Itsthejoeker Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Silly idea where does this stop? Arthur Rowley should have a statue because of his goal scoring record for us. Why should it have to stop? Albeit we're not going to have hundreds of statues everywhere, but we should certainly recognise them a little more than we currently do, with more murals or a stand naming.
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 But he was a Leicester City player. A Leicester City player (especially an English player) winning the World Cup won't happen again. Bit of a statement to make that.
Quorndon_Fox Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Looks to me like the haters have found something to hate again. One statue that is already in existence which wont cost us much paying homage to one of only a few Englishman to have currently lifted a world cup whilst playing for their country, only 8 clubs can claim that and I think its worth celebrating! Gordon Banks - LEICESTER CITY George Cohen - Fulham Jack Charlton - Leeds United Bobby Moore - Westham United Ray Wilson - Everton Nobby Stiles - Manchester United Alan Ball - Blackpool Bobby Charlton - Manchester United Martin Peters - Westham United Geoff Hurst - Westham United Roger Hunt - Liverpool
Dan Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 It really is a no-brainer and we need more of these kind of things. Our ground is extremely bland and could do with some proper character.
hackneyfox Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 I wouldn't want it. To me a legend would be someone who did extremely well while playing here, but the who still supported and got involved with the club afterwards. He doesn't come to our matches, so it would appear he is not a real fan and so I am not sure I would choose him for a statue. The club basically forced him out, it's no surprise he didn't get involved with the club afterwards. We should buy the statue of Banks from the artist as it won't cost much and we don't have any other WC winning names in our history. A statue of Lineker is something for another day and a different thread.
hackneyfox Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 He seems to prefer watching stoke city so not to bothered. What a mean attitude, we should be celebrating the fact that we once had a World Cup winner play for us, I don't see why he has to be Mr Leicester to earn our respect.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 If we're going to have a statue of Gordon Banks can we at least have one that looks like him?
Babylon Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 It looks pretty good to me. He looks black in the statue!!!
davieG Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 He looks black in the statue!!! That's all the soot from the Dark Satanic Kilns
Finnaldo Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 That's all the soot from the Dark Satanic Kilns I'm not sure whether that photo's been taken in black and white or if it's just Stoke. Tough call.
