Hugo Sanchez Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 We should definitely have the statue, our stadium is so bland when it comes to history. Ive spoken to Gordon a few times over the past couple of years and he's very much a Leicester man rather then stoke. He's still goes down to watch city. To me he's a very humble bloke but I think he's a little bit peed off, how the club have never honour him and we should.
jamfox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 For me This , and it makes it original from Stoke. some inscription about the lifting the world cup while at Leicester and the passing of knowledge theme to local lad Peter Shilton is a good call as well.
indierich06 Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Do we need to get one commissioned and built? There's one already built, the guy who organised that wants it to be displayed at our ground, and the total cost will be less than it actually cost to make in the first place. Ahh didn't see article that DG posted, thought it was just being suggested that we try and get Stoke's statue but there was no real interest from the club. Good to see thatt hings could move forward!
leicesterseddon Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I agree about the need for some sort of statue outside the ground - and if we're going to have one, Banks is the obvious candidate really. Truth be told, it should have been done a long time ago but successive regimes at the club haven't taken the initiative and we as fans haven't put any pressure on them to do so. Having said that, I'm not sure if the best way to do this is to pick up what is effectively Stoke's throwaway....
ithuriel Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 You could always chant, "Bring home Banks!" at the next match whilst Birch is chuntering away and see if he acknowledges you.
Fox92 Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Banks is such a legend, not just a Stoke and Leicester City legend, but a football legend. A World Cup winner with England, especially while playing for Leicester. If Stoke don't want that statue, why the hell did they move it away from the Brittania, then I'll be so pleased if we could have it. Such a waste.
GingerrrFox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I would like them to combine this Banks statue with statues of other Leicester legends to be a showpiece outside the King Power Stadium. Banks, Shilton, Rowley, Lineker, Walsh or something like that. The club could even do a poll to see who the fans would want included.

You know like Manchester United have Best, Law and Charlton. I know they all played in the same team so it's quite relevent, but we could have three great players from different era's?

Chandler, Banks and Lineker are the three obvious choices to me - goes right through the history of the club too.
Manwell Pablo Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Despicable how the club have wasted this time, now people think he is a Stoke legend as opposed to a Leicester City legend where he enjoyed so much success with us. One League Cup? Won far more of his individual honors at Stoke.
Happy Fox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 One League Cup? Won far more of his individual honors at Stoke. Leicester City FA Cup runner-up: 1961, 1963 Football League Cup: 1964, 1965 (runner-up) Stoke City Football League Cup: 1972 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Banks
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 One League Cup? Won far more of his individual honors at Stoke. But he won the World Cup as a Leicester City player that top trumps anything else
Kitchandro Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 'Gordon Banks Leicester City 1959-67 World Cup winner 1966' A simple inscription, but no more would need to be said. It's a fairly decent statue tbf, if it was crap I'd demand another one be built, but it's quite classy and makes the point well enough. I would love a few statues outside the ground: Banks, Walshie (wheeling away v Derby pose), Lineker, Weller, Rowley, Chandler. But it would never happen.
GingerrrFox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Chandler, Banks and Lineker are the three obvious choices to me - goes right through the history of the club too. Rowley has to be included as the clubs record goal scorer.

Manwell Pablo Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 But he won the World Cup as a Leicester City player that top trumps anything else He didn't win that "with us" though did he, not success he had "with" Leicester City, but while at Leicester City, difference. Where as the majority of his Goal Keeper of the year awards we're won through playing with Stoke.

Alexikokopops Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 He didn't win that "with us" though did he, not success he had "with" Leicester City, but while at Leicester City, difference. And yet you've included his OBE as one of the things he got while "with Stoke"... So as I say, One League Cup? He won most of his Individual honors whilst at Stoke, as your link will show you. Manwell Pablo Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Reporter "So Gordon what are you most proud of" Gordon "**** Jules Rimet son, it's all about the Daily Express Sportsmen of the year.... '71 and '72". I believe he's the only person to ever win it back to back as well.

Captain... Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 He didn't win that "with us" though did he, not success he had "with" Leicester City, but while at Leicester City, difference. Where as the majority of his Goal Keeper of the year awards we're won through playing with Stoke. And yet the statue Stoke had is one of him lifting the Jules Rimet trophy which he didn't win for Stoke, with Stoke, or even when he was playing for Stoke. Your whole argument seems to be that he should be considered more Stoke than Leicester, because he won a few more individual honours, he made 293 appearances over 8 years at Leicester (194 over 5 years at Stoke)*, a period which included him getting called up to the England team and winning the World Cup. He is more Leicester than Stoke, but I don't see why he can't be a legend at both clubs, hell he can be a legend at Chesterfield, Rawmarsh Welfare and Millspaugh for all I care, he is an English world cup winner, he played the majority of his career for Leicester, we should celebrate that. *stats from wikipedia so possibly only league appearances, the number isn't that important what is is that he played for us longer than anywhere else.
Babylon Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Best snap him up quick otherwise the Daily Express will be after it for their offices.
