kingfox Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Moyes has been clueless and it all started off in the Summer. He had a chance of getting five midfielders, he left with one of which he paid a crazy amount for. He didn't attempt to sign Ozil, De Rossi rejected them, Herrera was a major fook up, while they had a chance of signing Khedira also. Yet they left with Fellaini for about £27 million, when they bidded £30 million for both Baines & Fellaini. I honestly think if they bidded £40 million for both, they would of got Baines as well. Fellaini for that much, was obviously a panic buy. Since then, the midfield has probably been the worst Manchester United midfield I have seen in my lifetime. Getting Mata in, obviously hasn't helped either just yet. He is more of a central attacking minded midfielder, yet Manchester United are playing him out wide, something he didn't want. Rooney is playing crazily deep for a player who was getting 20 + goals a season. He is not playing the 10 role very well in my opinion, it just goes to show how deep he had to play sometimes last night, he tracked back was about 25 yards from his goal, Wilshere took the ball off him, and Arsenal nearly scored from it. It just goes to show, how much they are relying on Adnan Januzaj, the amount of pressure on him already to perform is ridiculous. Talking about their wingers as well, Nani & Ashley Young are not good enough, while Valencia only performs now and again, he used to get assists nearly every week. I'm not sure what Moyes can do in the Summer, this squad doesn't look it will be a quick fix. Vidic will go, Evra will go, the midfield will still need a major revamp. While there's now rumours of Van Persie leaving. Moyes needs to look at good young talent, players of which can improve the side 5 years down the line as well.
Dan Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Them relying on Januzaj pretty much says it all. I don't agree with people saying he's over-rated (personally think he'll be the real deal) but he's what, 18 years old? Man Utd should not be relying on an 18 year old to get them out of jail. Don't know where to even start on their defence. It's just terrible.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 They're both better sides who actually won strong leagues last year. None of those two were declining. Guardiola's took over a side on another level to anyone on the planet at the minute. 7th would be a total disgrace. So did Man U.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 They're both hugely, HUGELY better teams and squads than Man Utd. Everyone knows Fergie was getting the absolute best out of a team he bought and built, players he developed. That's a testament to Ferguson's management and the fact that he was and is United. Barca and Bayern have so many world class players, Utd have (arguably) Rooney and Van Persie. We're talking about the Premier League champions here who finished way ahead of Manchester City and Chelsea last season. Let's not make out like they are some plucky challengers with a weak squad. Next you'll be telling me that Atletico Madrid have a much better squad than Manchester United.
Leicesterpool Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Typically in football no team is successful for ever, every team have a tip and down period. Look how strong and big Leeds were once, but in the last five years they've sank as low as the bottom of league one! Newcastle United have been in the championship and back. My point is no club is safe, I'm not saying Man U will go down but if you told a leeds fan in 2002 that they would be relegated two years later, they would have you sectioned!
Mickey O'Neil Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 I feel sorry for the true fans. The ones that go. I laugh when I walk by someone in a Man U shirt in our City centre or go by 'Goals' though. Look at all the Man U "fans" around my age (41) or younger. All they've ever known is winning. They're the ones I remember from school who swapped teams for whoever was winning at that time in those days. The ones that took the p!ss out of me because I supported crap Leicester. Your time has come motherfvckers (sadly not for long, but I'll enjoy this season at least!!) I honestly don't think Fellaini was a panic buy...if any manager should know him inside out, it's Moyes. I think if the team were gelling then he'd get more time. Unfortunately for him, there's a "crisis" going on not seen in Manchester since Fergie led them to the bottom of the league all those years ago. Anyway, Moyes will get it right, I'm sure. They really need to back him.

Jon the Hat Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Moyes is so far out of his depth it's not true. It will end in tears.
Stadt Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Man U would definitely have to buy promising youngsters from upper mid table teams in Europe, players similar to Griezemann's level as Dan suggested.
ozleicester Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Moyes was stitched up by Fergie. Tired squad players wanting to go and no real good buys. Moyes will get SHITLOADS to spend in the sumer 6-7 new players, will build a decent side and finish in Europe next season
kingcarr21 Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 I can see this ending one way and thats moyes getting sacked by december. He will finish outside of europe this season and be given a huge transfer kitty which he will buy some decent players with and most likely play out of position (Mata springs to mind). What happens if he gets off to a bad start next season? Every team in the prem are deep down loving the demise of Man Utd and everyone wants to stick another nail in moyes coffin so play there socks off against them with no fear. Moyes is doing a piss poor job you dont go from champions to 7th in a matter of months. I know players have gone downhill but surely not by a margin of Champions to not even being in Europa league?? How much time will the owners give a struggling moyes next season before they decide to change things? Although im not a huge lover of Man Utd i hope Moyes turns things around but to be honest i cant see Man Utd being in the champions league for quite some time
Guest ttfn Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 This stuff about Mata being played out of position I'm finding a bit disingenuous and it seems to be the latest stick to beat Moyes with. In the summer it was "Moyes can't deliver world class signings". So he signs somebody and guess what? United don't win straight away so he's "out of position". Mata has 3 assists in 4 games so far and has actually spent a good chunk of the first 3 games playing in a central role. With Rooney and van Persie in the side, what's he to do? Nobody plays a "number 10" in behind two strikers these days, it's tactical suicide. To get Mata in the side he's brought him in in the most logical position for the time being, until RVP inevitably leaves this summer. Mata is effectively being asked to do the job Knockaert does for us. I think most on here don't see Knockaert as a winger but he is a class act and the best way to get his class in the team and retain 2 strikers is on the right of a 4-4-2. And we're 8 points clear in our league. If Mata is still on the right of a 4-4-2 in 9 months time then it's a legitimate criticism.
AyewJoking Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Moyes simply hasnt got what it takes to continue man utds stronghold on English football. 10 years or whatever at everton and won fook all. i doubt he could win anything with the best players in the world so what chance has he with utds average squad? if man utd want champions league football and trophies then sack Moyes now and bring in a proven manager. Or give Moyes 5 years to settle and undo what Fergie built over the last two decades.

Dan Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 So did Man U. Come off it. The Premier League last year was appalling. But they do by a mile The Premier League is the best league in the world and they won it last season. Atletico's squad is not that good. They are more than the sum of their parts. Man U have Van Persie, Rooney, Mata, Kagawa, Januzaj. That's some top quality attacking options.

You are talking about a team here who is level with Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of the Spanish League. Kagawa He's cant get on Man Uts bench some games, he wouldnt get in Atleticos B side. (and if you think last seasons PL was seriously the best in the World have a look at yourself, we didnt get a single team past the last 16 in Europe)
One Legged Beaver Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Against Arsenal was the first time I genuinely thought that the giant mess wasn't that much to do with Moyes. The players are clearly not playing for him which was proved in the final minutes of the game when Moyes was screaming to the players to move the ball forward, to which they proceeded to aimlessly pass it around the back four until the end of the game. Ferguson left him the worst United squad in Premier League history with a rapidly declining Defence and non existent midfield. It could be argued that with Everton being a possible exception all the teams above them have a better starting XI and that that is the position United should be in.

He obviously forgot about Costa, Diego, Miranda, Courtois, Villa, Koke, Tiago, Godin, Luis, Gabi, Suarez and Rodriguez.

Sounds like the classic "not heard of them so they must be shit" When talking about England v Uruguay I've actually heard people saying only Suarez and Cavani would get into Englands team Not a single one of them could have watched Godin being the rock of the best defence in Europe this season or the role Rodriguez can play.
DrumsNotDead Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Going back to the topic about Man Utd spending, I saw this article a couple weeks ago (think it was linked on the Guardian). Basically it's a inflation adjusted look at Premier League era transfers. However the rate of inflation is based on the available TV money rather than the general economy. So a sort of 'transfer market' inflation. http://tomkinstimes.com/2014/01/transfer-records-and-why-they-mata/ It does show that United, under Ferguson, did spend their fair share of money over the years. I think it's interesting that City don't feature as high up the list as you'd expect. (Though unsurprising Chelsea are right up there!) Obviously it's not a perfect model, there are going to be external factors such as money made available through player sales, but I thought it was an interesting read and worth sharing.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 I think it's mainly the internet types who are on his back. Those United fans I know who actually watch the games properly understand that they've been just as unlucky this season as they have been poor (not to mention just as unlucky this season as they were lucky last). The support in the ground for Moyes (particularly away) remains good. Astonishingly I read a well-recommended post on the Guardian blog saying that those supporters going away with United are letting the club down by continuing to support the manager. this. Man Utd have more glory hunters or arm chair fans than capacity in the ground. The knowledgeable fans are in the minority

I suppose for the best league in the world it's quite surprising how no-one from it got further in Europe than Galatasaray. Best marketed league? By a considerable distance. Best quality? Nah.
