Konchesky Red Card Appeal. Rejected - Serves 3 Game Ban

Love that small but ever-present contingent of Leicester fans who can't wait to tell everybody else that the referee got it right, regardless of whether he actually did or not. These people are on FT straight away, making sure they occupy the high ground left vacant by us fickle fans who will obviously never accept a decision given against Leicester. The feeling of superiority must be overwhelming.

I literally don't know how anybody can say that Forest should have had that penalty. At the most it was a tangle of bodies and nothing should have been awarded, but I think Wes has a strong case in saying that he was the one who got fouled.

I don't think the angle is good enough to judge whether Konch's red card was justified or not. All these people speaking with absolute certainty, I have to ask, are you privy to video that I'm not? I don't think it's clear at all whether or not it warranted dismissal.

Wes' reaction says it all..hardly screaming at the ref that he felt he was fouled is he?

I look at it the other way, the forest guys reaction was to get straight up and go for the ball to play on, either he thought it was an innocuous clash or thought he actually fouled Wes and was trying to style it out!

I don't think Wes fouled him. They were both side to side and it seemed Wes just fell over and you can see that Mackie gets straight back up to carry on. Never a pen.

These are equally valid point of view. lol

I would also like to throw into the mix that all the debate changes fvck all and it was a brilliant point after going down to 10 men.

The problem is that he is going to get a ban, for what appears to be a reckless tackle. As far as I am concerned he has let his fellow  team mates and manager down, at an important part of our season. There is no excuse for it.

I'm aware it's not supposed to be a non-contact sport, but that gets given on a regular basis when in the middle of the park - there is no clause on the rules that mention area of the pitch. I'd be bloody delighted for them to go the other way and make it acceptable back on the half-way line, but if they consider it a foul, it should be a foul across the pitch.

But refs do give that on a regular basis - how often do you see a player outmuscle another and be pulled up for it?

I've seen refs give them as fouls, but not often, I've also seen refs give goals when the ball didn't cross the line, give handball when it hits the head, and wave play on after an obvious foul. It doesn't change my opinion that it isn't a foul on Wes.

Not sure who has rattled your cage, but the reason people have different opinions on it is because there is so much room for interpretation in the laws of the game. You could watch all three incidents from every different angle and still not get a consensus, you see it on match of the day, they have all the replays they want and decades of footballing experience and still they can't agree.

Unless you can say that Mackie 100% fouled Wes, or that Wes 100% didn't foul Mackie, you have to trust the ref when making that decision. Most refs wouldn't give that as a foul on Wes, most would give it as a foul for a clumsy tackle on Mackie. Some wouldn't book Wes in that situation, some would send him off. In some ways we are fortunate it wasn't a red.

Same with Konch, it was a late hard reckless tackle, doesn't always get punished with a red, but often does, especially as Konch was having a go at Mackie just before it. It is not about being superior, or taking the high ground, it is just giving an honest opinion and there is nothing in any of those videos that proves the ref was wrong in his decision. Another ref on another may see it differently, but with the laws worded as they neither are necessarily wrong. That sadly is football where the refs association would prefer to cover their asses rather than clearly define what is or isn't a foul.

I agree. It was a downright stupid tackle with no attempt to get the ball, just when we were desperately trying to get back into the game. To lose discipline like that is embarrassing and I imagine Nigel will be pretty pissed off about it.

Not sure what gave you the impression I was speaking from a rattled cage, although if you were truly curious about what had irked me (not quite to the extent that my cage has been rattled, mind) then you need only read the post you quoted. For your benefit (hint: "love" is actually sarcastic, I don't actually love them), here is what I said:

"Love that small but ever-present contingent of Leicester fans who can't wait to tell everybody else that the referee got it right, regardless of whether he actually did or not. I mentioned nobody in particular. Whether or not you fit into that category, it is nonetheless true that lots of people on here try desperately to give the impression that they are intellectually honest, level-headed, and relentlessly impartial, unswayed by their emotional ties to Leicester City, even if that means arguing that black is white. Just read all the threads on controversial decisions, they are all pretty much the same.

It's worth noting that the default in all of these decisions is nothing, i.e there is no penalty or red card unless the referee has reached whatever degree of certainty he is required to reach to give the decision. While you correctly identify that there is a wide range of possible interpretations for individual incidents, it doesn't mean the appropriateness of each outcome is shared equally between all interpretations. In the case of the penalty for example, the default is that play carries on, because that's what happens when the referee is not intervening. In order to stop play and award a penalty, he has to be certain that Wes has committed a foul and not that it was the other way round or that they both fell over each other.

This is why I don't understand why some people cannot wait to tell everybody else that, according to their enlightened reasoning, the ref definitely made the right decision, when it clearly isn't as obvious or clear-cut as that.

I would say that both penalties were the correct decision given by the ref.

For theirs Morgan was clumsy and clearly brought the player down.. I would say though that his direction of travel was away from goal and Was was covering pretty quickly so not 100% a goalscoring opportunity.

Drinkwater  was clearly pushed. He goes down easily but it is a foul and I would expect a free kick to be given for that challenge anywhere else on the pitch.

Konchesky just lost it. Definitely reckless though he might have got away with a yellow. The picture isn't clear from that angle to see if both feet actually left the ground.

Only for violent conduct, this would go down as serious foul play.

Also a three matcher

We're wasting our time and potentially risking extending Konchesky's ban in appealing.

It was a dreadful challenge and he deserved his red card and suspension. The referee may not have exactly carried out the precise procedure required but the correct decision was reached and the correct punishment administered.

This is a red card, not a parking ticket - it's not going to be overturned because correct protocol wasn't followed.

it was a sending off, yes the ref shouldn't of attempted playing advantage and then given a red, but either way, it was a poor challenge and a sending off. The same way Andy Ried would of been sent off he he was seen hitting KP and shoving him in the net after the second equaliser. The ref had a bad night full of bad decisions. and for the record I also think both of the penalties were soft.

I can see why we are appealing it after Gorkss' red at QPR was over turned only last week. That was a similar challenge to Konchesky's, mistimed and nowhere near the ball, and I was surprised the red for Gorkss wasn't upheld.

Sorry but Gorkss wasn't even a yellow card challenge

Not sure why we would even appeal it,

A shite tackle and he deserved to get sent off and 3 match ban that will inevitably follow...

Been consistent but very prone to making the stupid decisions.

3x things you get from konchesky Most seasons

- Either a ban from multiple cards, or a straight red.

- A 30 yard screamer

- Consistency

I'm sure that Konch has made a few of these tackles over the season and maybe last.. remember Swindon at home? This time he got caught out and didn't win the ball at all. It might get rescinded though, like its been mentioned, Ref playing advantage and then bringing back for a red card?
