RL Football Forum: 'Plastic Fans'

Should be a priority system for the pies and drinks. If you've suffered the bad times you should be able to jump the queue ahead of the newbies. A bit like the Disney fast pass tickets.

Roy had a point. Since we've been successful this season day trippers have turned up in seats near to my group and they've literally booed because we've been losing such as Saturday against Blackpool. I ****ing hate that and let those responsible know about it. I don't care if you're a plastic fan or a day tripper as long as you support the team. Just no booing.

Certain hit a nerve thats for sure. However if you actually listerned to what was said the point was about booing. He said it was those booing he thought were " plastic fans". He said it was those fans he didn't want to come to the KP. He made no reference to fans who couldn't make every game, but he did make the the assumption rightly or wrongly that he felt the booing was not from the "regular fans". What has made me laugh however is how quickly fans who don't turn up regular are quick provide reason for not attending, sooner than support his stancebon fans booing there own team whethernyou go regularly or not

I'm a parent too with a son who has attended since he was 5. Yes children need drinks and the toilet. However they do not need these during the game. No school age child needs either of these things within a 45 minute period. Go before kick off, at half time and after the final whistle. Your choice to leave early, but there's no crush and no need. It took less than 3 minutes to get out of k block with my son all the way from our seats to outside the ground on Saturday and the block was full.

I can't bear to sit in the family stand because of what I see as 'bad' parenting annoying others. People getting up and down constantly for toilets, food, drinks, tantrums, allowing kids to play bleeping electronic games instead of watching the football etc etc.

Good parenting is teaching your children how to behave appropriately in social situations.

Did anyone say you did?

You were implying that it was only your 'plastic fans' that did it where as it happens every week.

I've got a group near me, regulars they arrive late and leave early at half time and full time. One might even suggest they were the real plastic fans not those that can only afford the odd game but watch every minute of it.

where do you sit davieg? sounds like it could be me

Do people really have so few worries in life that this is an issue? This isn't a secret society, it's a football club in the entertainment industry.

When you have to survive on 600 quid a month in benefits then I'm afraid football takes a back seat

Quite. As a student with the way easter falls this year I have had to stretch 1.6k over 4 months. £400 a month when rent and bills make up about £300 a month means I either eat for a month or go to one match...

People who live 100s of miles away, are genuinely skint etc are exempt from the 'plastic' tag.

But those who can afford to go and haven't got other commitments, and only start going when we are doing well or playing big teams, then in my eyes they aren't true fans.

Seriously? you ought to write a book on parenting as your post makes it obvious that all children are the same. Same size bladder? Same thirst, same tolerance for cold?

I also assume from your post that all areas of the ground are also identical and empty at exactly the same speed?

This takes holier than thou to a whole new level, congratulations dad of the year

I used to be a ST holder, not now, and I try to get to as many games as I can. Financially for me it's hard to get one, struggle paying rent and bills, bambino one is on the way so things like that stop me. I am looking to get one next year, and yes because we are going up, but who cares? At least more people will be at the KP supporting the City, with big crowds, bums on seats.

Call me plastic, call me a tw*t, call me what you like. I don't care, I support the City :)

The people who have a go at people who call people plastics then go on to say these kids probably still live at home with no grasp of real life. Basically have a go at stereotypers then stereotype next sentence. Good one, im not going around calling you lot plastic fans, dont have a go at me for living at home whilst i get through my education. For the record, a plastic for me is someone who sits in the crowd taking selfies or playing video games or texting during the game, like the person in front of me, constantly taking pictures. Fix up.

I am a season ticket holder and never ever boo or crticise any player at all. I do nothing but get behind my team every game. Now im not claiming this makes me any better of a fan than anyone else.

There are people sat at home who back the team in the same way, they just cant get to games all the time for whatever reason and i respect that.

What i do not respect is the ones who have just come to see us win and boo like spoilt little children when things arent going our way. You must see how it would be frustrating for someone like me to be sat next to someone who has not been all season to hear them describing our players as shit and booing.

the caller had a point

That was the point the caller was attempting to make on RL really in my opinion (although he got sidetracked into the plastic fan thing). Criticism without knowledge and context, simply because we aren't wiping the floor with a team by half time, is incredibly annoying.

Me and my dad have been ST holders since the KP opened. For the past 3 seasons we have lived in bournemouth and we go to every home game and a lot of away games. To say you camt afford it is (mostly) a kop out, we will litterally not eat if it looks like we wont have the money to make the journey. On the flip side, plastic fans are still fans, and they will bring their kids and money into the club. We have to take the rough with the smooth. Every club has "plastic fans" so why get upperty about it? You are never going to change it. So just get on with it.

This.

Roy's beef was that people who dont ordinarily come, turn up when all is rosey and then boo at the first opportunity.

I dont think there can be an argument in favour of this? The rest of it was really The Bourne Supremacy and Youngy just putting words in his mouth.

Then you had people ringing saying 'Roy is wrong. I'm in the army and cant make it' etc. it was obviously not aimed at those people. It was aimed at people who live in the City that wouldnt have dreamed of going to Northampton at home in League 1 but are happy to boo at half time when we're on the verge of promotion.

I'm Roy's son haha! You've got it spot on in what he wanted to convey. Without Stringer, Young and Bourne are as dull as a dying man's handshake and jumped at the chance to open up the plastic fans debate and pushed the point in a different direction.

Plastic and proud.

I'm just going to go and see Arsenal and Man City play next season. Possibly Chelsea too. Unless we're playing badly, then I wont bother.

Posted

Not too fussed about more people attending the "bigger" games, it's just the sections of impatient morons who clearly don't love the team. The ratio seems to be higher the more packed the stadium is.

I just wish it was always like the Watford home playoff leg when it's full. Must have been thousands of plastics there that day but it felt like everyone was singing their heart out.

I'm down every 3 or 4 games however well we're doing (not a STH), so that makes me part-plastic.

I think next season when we're in the premier league, i think club should look at the priority ticket scheme at home of course season ticket holders automatically get there seats, i think for certain games like Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs & Man City at home you've got to have at least attended four home matches from the previous season.

Jog on mate! If my son is thirsty or needs the toilet ill take him. If your a selfish prat who would make him hold it for potentially 45 mins then that's your choice, but me mate I'll take him when I like. There are some right idiots on here. Don't know where you get off telling me how to look after my kids.

If you were absent for the struggle, you dont deserve to be present for the success

I have been present for the 'struggle', and I have to say that this is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever read.

Seconded, with amendment.

How do some of you get so irate about how other people support the club?

If you were supporting tge club in the 'correct' way (whatever that is) then you shouldn't really care about this. You're not a super fan just because you have a wad of cash to spend every month in football games.

I get to a lot of games but I don't feel annoyed at the people that don't get to many
