RL Football Forum: 'Plastic Fans'

This thread is an embarrassment.

A few people need to manage their anger a bit.

Sigh...

Yours,

Plaggy and Proud, Glasgow.

I'm coming down from Scotland for my first two games of the season in a few weeks. I must be plastic.

I've supported the club for 35 years. I consider myself as passionate about Leicester City as anyone else on here. I go to the games when I want or can and not when some jumped up little tw*t on here thinks I should. I have a life as well as football and often other things have to come first.

STHs moaning about other fans is one of the most tedious things in football. I've been at Uni for 6 years in Manchester and I'm damn lucky my family can afford to keep me there, it'd be beyond reckless for me to spend the money to get to games several times a season.

Literally couldn't agree with this more.

It's like saying that someone is more of a Christian because they go to church more often than someone else.

People should be able to support the team in the way they can afford to. If that means going to every game, so be it. But those people can't knock someone who's equally as passionate listening in on the radio.

I hate this assumption that the minute we start winning a few thousand mythical plastic fans come crawling out of the woodwork. There may be a handful that only start coming when we are winning, but the reason the attendances are up are because fans who can't make every game (due to location, money, kids, work etc) are attending a little bit more often due to the football we are playing. People are likely to go that extra yard to rearrange their lives or find the money for tickets when we are playing well. I don't think that makes them plastic.

Getting back to the phone-in, Roy's other point was that it was these 'plastics' that were the ones booing. Firstly, pretty sure the booing was aimed at the ref. Secondly, how did he know the people booing were 'plastics'? Did he run a frigging half-time survey amongst everyone around him that booed?! He was jumping to all sorts of conclusions.

I had this argument recently on twitter and I have to say I do agree with Roy. I've seen people say oh I can't make Yeovil because I've got the kids if it was Manchester City you could get cover? Of course so why not for Yeovil?

Also with that Manchester City game I noticed some of our 'fans' clapping Silva when he went off? Some even standing and clapping these same 'fans' didn't clap when Nugent went off though?

I may come across as elitist however some things do need to be said. Yes I am still young, I don't have a mortgage or kids.. Yet.. I do appriciate things can get hard when you have these commitments however you make sacrifices or live a certain life style. How many times do you see someone who smokes say "I am Skint" but they will still find £30.00+ for cigarettes for the week? Same with fat people and food. Personally that's how football comes across to me.

Best post I've seen in ages totally agree.

I see it all the time at the big away games in recent seasons where you'd get people who go to aways once or twice a season. Always used to be the case at Cov and was at Forest in the cup top.

I appreciate the money side etc and kids bit too its more the point about these people coming to see the opposition rather than us. Hence their being a big demand for City league cup tickets.

Friend of mine in G & SK1 are all adament that the booing was aimed solely at the ref.

So some young bloke sees you on the concourse, follows you into the bog, stands alongside you and says "Hello Melv, like to chat?"

Gonna make a great reality TV show.

I have my own place, work hard and pay my bills tax etc I do have a ST but sometimes can be a struggle I have had to narrow down the away games to maybe 2-3 a season. I love my football and can never see myself not going but I know there will come a day when I will have to say that's it as family commitments etc will come first and when that time comes if I have the option of seeing us play Man City at home or Reading I know which one I will choose. A lot of our fans just think because you go to maybe 2 games a season your plastic which is a load of rubbish, I know people that in there younger days went week in week out but just cant afford to now.

You are all posting this crap in the wrong place. If you really want to target the people who come to the KP to watch the other team play, I can pretty much guarantee they won't be reading this forum. They'll be watching MUTV or whatever.

99% of the people who post on here are LCFC fans, whether they attend games or not. About time we all pulled together and put this "I'm a better fan than you" stuff to bed.

Very hot debate this and baffled at some of the attitudes. Personally I'm not particularly fussed with the crowd going from 21k to 27k with the success and selling out most games next season. At the start of this season I had the entire row to myself in the block I frequent, now it's rammed and has been since around December.

The only thing that truly bothers me and turns me into a fan snob is when the people who have come do nothing but moan. Against Ipswich there was a chap moaning most of the 90 minutes, only happy after we were 3-0 up. We weren't perfect but he would not let it go, bemoaning and berating the players. Against Blackpool there were single-ticket fans who decided to deride the team and individuals while only 1-0 down. I even remember people having a go when we were losing to Man City, who were at the time destroying everything in their path.

There seems to be a sense of entitlement to a vocal group of fans who turn up when it's a big game or when we're good. They feel they're entitled to see a win and a perfect win at that. If this doesn't happen they will berate players and the team. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that one of the most annoying things at football is a "fairweather" who spend 90 minute sat on his arse slagging the team off for every little mistake or miscontrol.

This is about plastic fans, not plastic Stans.

I will also be going to Yeovil match, cos it is cheap.

Is it?

I was going anyway but what is this news? How cheap?

Oh and while I'm here I may as well point out the idea that someone shouldn't be allowed to attend our games next season because they haven't been to enough games in the last 10 years is elitest garbage.

How many games do you have had to of gone to just out of interest? Do you have to have attended a specific number of away games as well?

Posted

I would have thought at an average of £25 a ticket (it'd probably be higher) you wouldn't be far off spending more than a season ticket for the pleasure!

I take your point but I like being able to pick & choose  plus i can often get cheap tickets through a contact.

That idea was brought about by Leicesterpool who thought Spurs would win the league. Take it with a pinch of salt ;).

ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘👠I totally agree with you

my first ever game was Cambridge in the play offs.

my second was the Wembley final

you could say i was a plastic fan

you could say i was a bandwagon jumper.

I've had a ST ever since......You gotta start sometime!!!!

The amount of people rushing to justify their attendance in this thread is quite amusing... chances are, if you're on here, there's no way you're a plastic fan, and its really not important how many games you can get to.

Posted

I'm probably the opposite although not on purpose. I had my first season ticket in the relegation season and decided not to renew for the first time last year, although that was down to cash. However much it may cost next season, I definitely want a season ticket. I've already missed a lot of a great season (my own fault of course) I'm not going to miss another after sitting through home draws with Stockport and Walsall.

Im plastic too sometimes I go to the toilet outside of the 15 minute half time break anyone has a problem with this please let me know

Posted

Last few years I've averaged 3 or 4 games a season. I could afford the season ticket but not the fuel for a 260 round trip, and the time travelling. My fault for moving so far away I guess!

I served my apprenticeship though - started going to Filbo in 1986 and have witnessed plenty of highs and lows.

Where are you from mate? 2034? How are we doing there? Have we won the Prem yet? What about Europe? Is Kevin Phillips still playing?

Not surprised that you don't get to many games as a future study has shown that worm holes are bad for your health - along with red meat, swimming with goggles, listening to the band R.E.M and sitting on plastic.

I was actually sticking up for you because I do the same thing now I don't live in Leicester anymore.  I often wonder why I don't just get a season ticket and not go to half of them.

I think next season when we're in the premier league, i think club should look at the priority ticket scheme at home of course season ticket holders automatically get there seats, i think for certain games like Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs & Man City at home you've got to have at least attended four home matches from the previous season.

Ticket selling will be tighter for those games anyway given the expected rush of away supporters under the guise of Leicester "fans" wanting to go.

But you shouldn't have that barrier for home games that you suggest.
