To be fair, if you broke your leg on the pitch you wouldn't have a leg to stand on (excuse the pun) If you enter an area where technically you shouldn't and that fact is advertised, if you hurt yourself, you are very unlikely to be able to sue. We are talking about a one off 5 minute pitch invasion to celebrate promotion at the end of the season. Its health and safety gone mad.

But like the Burnley fan just said, at what point does it stop?

Listen, the club are well aware that they can't stop and prosecute thousands of people for getting on the pitch, and stewards and police are not going to get involved if they do.

But last night the correct action was taken. We lost 4-1, and had celebrated promotion 4 days earlier. The moment had gone. Blame Sky.

It was only about 50 people in L1 and the thick teens in N1 that had any ambition of getting on the pitch. Even the players didn't look interested as they knew they had just let themselves down.

And jamfox, you're fighting a lost battle mate. Go out with some dignity :P

Im not too bothered about last night. It would have been crap having lost 4-1 and I agree the moment had gone. But the club have made their position very clear now which will upset a lot of people if they prevent an invasion should we manage to clinch the title at home. People are more likely to get injured scrapping with police/stewards. If it happens against QPR or Donny (whichever we are champions at), just let it happen.

Yes, I am glad to see you coherently demonstrate that was a “tongue in cheek†statement!

You just make another humor less unintelligent statement that says more about you then me.

I'm on about the one against Sheffield Wednesday which could've happened if not for $ky. You don't 'organise' a pitch invasion. You either do it or you don't. A lot of people on here have been talking about will it happen or won't it, that isn't organising one.

As a side note, what on earth is it that possesses so many on here to make such god-awful comparisons all the time?

I am ****ed on all 4 counts lol

Great balance post again

I was a Police Community Support Officer, and loved my job, until I was eventually forced to take early medical retirement. The best job I ever had, and surrounded by a wonderful group of guys and gals who had to work bloody long hours, and do a dangerous and exhausting job.

There are rotten apples in every barrel, but 99% of police are decent people, trying to support their families, and keep their neighbourhoods safe.

Talking of perspective, how about you read your 2nd paragraph again and ask yourself if it's really as good as you kids are making it out to be. I'm 24 by the way and enjoy a laugh and crazy night as much as anyone, running on a pitch does not constitute this. I'd rather see the players that have earned this reward parade around the pitch than you lot in your nike air max's on the pitch looking utterly clueless what to do next.

Well said, and so right.  :appl:  :appl:  :appl:

Alot of our fans have issues.

Albeit plastic and non plastic.

for the record i feel for anyone who genuinely had to leave early no matter if we were winning or losing.

those cnuts who left cos of our dismal performance shouldnt be allowed any tickets next season for the Big games.

If anyone was confused last night they should see the table....you know the P next to it means the squad has achieve what they wanted to do....Promotion.

we went 20 odd games without a loss....repeat....20 odd games...we have played some remarkable football....we are promoted over the season cos we are one of 2 best teams in the League.

We played crap yday cos the players were pissed...not professional- accepted BUT begrudge young men getting promotion? and not getting pissed?

Anyone who booed them just cos of one game should be shot!

Blimey this thread has exploded since I last checked it before work.

I think the whole forum has exploded today!

Why not? Hundreds if not thousands of fans on the pitch would be running on the pitch pretty decent cover if you ask me.

Ever heard anything about CCTV?

Wow... you really don't get it do you?!

Stopping it is not about a lap of honour or presenting the tropy or not. Stopping the pitch invasion is about setting up the Sky Bet podium, with the Sky Bet ribboned trophy, with the Sky Bet champagne and the Sky Bet 'We are Champions flag' whilst the Sky Bet directors watch from the Sky Bet box they have for the day. It's all corporate bullcrap and the thought of it being ruined terrifies the league who have taken the sponsorship money. If the league gets terrified, the club gets terrified.

When Aguerro scored against QPR there was a pitch invasion. I think there might have been two even. Did Barclays get the huff and cancel the presentation?! Did they fvck!

Everyone cleared off and the podium was set up for Kompany and co to lift the Barclays Premier League.

Were there one versus Doncaster this is all that would happen. Even if everyone refused to leave the pitch they'd still do it from the director's box so everyone's a winner eventually.

A pitch invasion isn't going to rob your daughter of her precious little moment.

I think you'll find stopping it against Doncaster will be so Kasabian can play a few songs.

I'm baffled why folk want to plan pitch invasions but I am more baffled why we want to invade now. Lets get on with the business of winning the league rather than twatting about on some grass.

Posted

Makes me laugh how often people to try to simplify what a pitch invasion is. Of course it isn't "just a bit of grass." You know full well it's not and it's just pure falsehood to try and say it is.

Anyway, you not seeing the appeal of it isn't a good argument for others not going ahead with it. You have to tell us what damage it causes, if there is none then there's really no reason for it not to go ahead.

It is. It also grows and gets cut so you're not really running about on anything too meaningful

If you want to remove the context from everything there are plenty of other important things that would become meaningless.

Of course if it really were the same as the park there wouldn't be riot police protecting it.

I think you're massively distorting the issue to simplify it that much. That seems to be the main motivation after all, to make it look trivial so you can mock those who celebrate in a different way to you.

It is more to try and understand the motivation to invade the pitch.

For some people it has taken on an almost mythological status, an action which must be done in order to properly celebrate.

I and a few others went on the pitch at Filbert Street in our final league game, for me that was to purely say goodbye to the old place and see the ground from the perspective of the players, something I'd never be able to do again. Invading the pitch to celebrate promotion is understandable (just) if it is achieved in truly dramatic fashion (see Watford away) but to celebrate promotion 2 days after the event when there is still 5 games left and a league title to win seems unwarranted.

I suppose that's fair. Have to say as much as I want to go ahead with it there is a slight awkwardness about going on without a 'moment' of some sort.

Stewards & the police are the kind of people that ruin football. We've been waiting ten years. Ten years! And they call in the riot squad to stop our celebrations after all we've been thru. I was there at stoke 2008. This club is a facking joke. No other team wud do that to our own fans. Its a disgrace. Kevin Barclay & co shud b ashamed of themselves

If you don't like it, then tough shit pal.

Easy answer is, that if you don't like it, then don't go.

Yeah but cctv can't pick up everything if there's a few fans around the player you never know

Yeah I mean everyone will just carrying on celebrating around the perpetrator in a completely normal fashion right after he has just stabbed one of our own players.

Posted

From a friend who is well placed at the club...yes it is fact. Why would police tell the club how any are going? The club sell the tickets in the first place! The club then update the cops and As in all places, the club then finance how mny cops they want.

That is true. It is the club, not the police who decide how many are needed in the ground, I should know, because before I came a PCSO,  I worked in "events" policing, which included football matches.
