ceredigion Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 The Hull City owner has been frustrated in his attempt to change the club's name to Hull Tigers. Apparently he thought the title ''City'' didn't sufficiently distinguish Hull from the lesser clubs around them, nor did it appeal to the lucrative Far East markets. But what if it happened to us? Until 1919 we were known as Leicester Fosse (a title which convicted sex offender Stuart Hall insisted on using whenever he reported one of our games). We became Leicester City in 1919 after the town of Leicester was granted city status by George V's royal charter. Plenty of clubs have changed their names since their formation, Manchester United, Arsenal and Birmingham City to name but three. It hasn't happened for a while now though. Leyton Orient used to be called just Orient until the 1990s. but Leyton Orient had been their original name anyway. If the club's owners wanted to change our name to Leicester Foxes or to anything else which they thought might appeal to prospective customers outside the county borders, how would you feel? Would an essential part of our history and heritage be lost, or would you welcome our arrival in the Brave New World of corporate sponsorship, TV deals, replica shirts and product placement? And if we did change our name, what should it be?
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Had a vote not that long ago and was a landslide to keep City over Fosse. We're Leicester City.
Larry_LCFC Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 I like Leicester City FC. Bollocks to any other name. We won't sell our sole. I hope.

AKCJ Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Only name i'd consider changing to is Leicester Fosse.

Guest MattP Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Only name i'd consider changing to is Leicester Fosse. Same, I actually liked the idea of it. Different, original and connected to history.
stevelcfc Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Fosse doesn't fit some of our chants though We'd have to copy some that do then
LJS Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Fosse I could cope with. Anything else and I'm gone until they sell up and somebody reverts back. Same goes for kit colour. I think Cardiff fans are a disgrace for sticking with them in all honesty. Our heritage matters.
Danizen Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 I could definitely get used to Leicester Fosse. I'd be strongly opposed to Leicester Foxes. I'd be quite miffed with Leicester Red Bulls but I'd be excited about the imminent Champions League football.
Agent Fox Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Hopefully we'll keep our heel and toes too. I voted CITY back when but if allowed to vote again I would choose FOSSE. Hopefully we'll keep our heel and toes too. I voted CITY back when but if allowed to vote again I would choose FOSSE.
Jobyfox Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 There are quite a few Citys, but Fosse would make us unique. In any marketing perspective a change of name would be a no brainer. It would be good for our club in every way except one - the question of our heritage and history. And that is the sticking point. In all other forms of business failure to adapt and embrace change would quickly see you in administration, but football is different. Shirt sponsorship, stadium sponsorship and cup sponsorship is tolerated reluctantly. I actually think Fosse wouldn't be too bad and the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages. I wouldn't endorse any other name (lions, bears or even foxes) as that would not have any historical consistency. A name change will never happen, however, as the vocal majority would always be against it - and I understand and respect that view.
MattGamble92 Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 The biggest thing for me, is when people have discussed the Hull City name change they always mention that man city and LEICESTER also have the name. Not Cardiff, not Swansea. Proves that we have distinguished the name ourselves. Hull haven't done that. And if they think changing their name to the same as one of the biggest rugby clubs in the world will help them as they attempt to push for 12th in the Premier League then good luck to them and their worldwide appeal.
fuchsntf Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 If we won the PL and FA cup within a short time they could call us the Woolybacks, St.Margarets, The abbeys, graverobbers, Belvoirs,Bosworths, Richards, Bradgates, Frogislanders, lamberts,Bentleys, ........... .before I would begin to care The Fosse would give us somthing unique.
Renart Posted 15 April 2014 Posted 15 April 2014 Only name i'd consider changing to is Leicester Fosse. Same, I actually liked the idea of it. Different, original and connected to history. I agree. Wouldn't have a problem with a change to this.
Finnaldo Posted 15 April 2014 Posted 15 April 2014 I agree. Wouldn't have a problem with a change to this. I think Fosse has a ring to it as well. Would'be voted Fosse given the chance.
Master Fox Posted 15 April 2014 Posted 15 April 2014 Hands up who voted for Fosse...come on. Didn't we do it by holding up signs at the ground? I feel like one side said City and the other Fosse? I just remember the bickering between fans. It was hilarious. I cant even remember what season. I think it may have been when we were last in the prem?
AndWhat? Posted 15 April 2014 Posted 15 April 2014 Would rather play league 2 football as Leicester City than win the Champions League with a name chosen by a foreign business man.
