glenelgfox Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 A real shame if he goes, especially on a bad note. When Birch went over to him during the lap of honour and asked him a question Lloyd just waved him away, looking quite annoyed. Would be a shame for him to leave like that A little petulant from Lloyd if that is what has happened? It is not the birchs fault nor the fans or team mates either re his contract issues. Surely he could have enjoyed the day and the celebrations given he played a big part in our rise from L1? I like Dyer and really hope he stays - he owes himself at least to taste the premiership and who can predict what will happen re form, injuries etc.
Iwan is a Welshman Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 I've loved his contribution over the past six years and he'll go down as a Leicester legend in my book. I can't understand the logic though. If it is the fact we've offered him a one year deal I can't see that he'd gain more from a two year deal with a Championship side. If that is the case he is depriving himself of the hard earned opportunity to prove himself in top flight football. But, as ever, there's probably a lot more behind his decision than the Chinese whispers that filter through to us. Or, anyway, it could just be agents at work.

Thracian Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 I don't see the logic of fans dismissing Dyer so flippantly. Whether on the top of his form or not the guy is a threat, has to be contained and leaves space for others. And, with his pace, there is no easy way of countering the threat. Even Manchester City had their problems dealing with him. We can ill afford to lose either his pace or experience at this stage. I have to suspect that he knows he can get a two-year deal elsewhere but surely ours is an adventure he would wish to stay part of.
Burmesefox Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Maybe he realises he will just be a bit part player and really he wants out to a club that will play him week in week out?
Thracian Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Maybe he realises he will just be a bit part player and really he wants out to a club that will play him week in week out? He's never seemed like a bit part player to me - how easily people forget his immense contribution.
AyewJoking Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 quite rightly dyer feels he deserves a two year deal, he is over 30 and has to look after himself, he has also had his best season in a city shirt culminating in us winning the league. would like him to stay purely for sentimental purposes but were in the big time now and dont need passengers. just take the 1 year deal lloyd, do well and you'll likely get another.
Pegosteve Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 I think legend is taking it a bit too far. Good club servant.
Mack Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Lloyd Dyer has been the club's most loyal and dedicated player in recent times. He deserves his chance in the Premier League more than any other player in our squad for me also, and fully deserves a 2 year deal as a reward for his efforts. Unless there are some wildly outlandish demands from Lloyd's agent (which I doubt) it will be a hugely sad day if after all his hard word he is allowed to walk away having just achieved our goal. Don't go Lloyd.
turkish14 Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Think his departure from the field yesterday was kidology, playing to the fans. In my opinion he will be here next season
katieakita Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Problem is we live in a world of agents and speculation. Clearly he has been offered a contract and whoever advises him wants better, He has a decision to make and we don't know when he has to make it by. Remember some clubs still don't know what division they are in next season. Really hope he stays as he has a part to play.
lifted*fox Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 I think legend is taking it a bit too far. Good club servant.I don't think legend is taking it too far personally. In the 7 years I've been watching he's always contributed with assists and goals - never moaned, kept his head down, worked hard and declared his love for this club. Some of the goals he's scored (especially this season) have been great and major contributors in our success in gaining promotion. I'd personally (IMO) say he's a legend here. On that basis I think he deserves security for 2 years. He can't be costing a fortune so why not?
Fox Ulike Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 There's no substitute for real pace at any level. I can imagine Dyer coming into a game at 60/70 mins and frightening tiring full backs. He's a loyal servant to the club, and has earnt a new contract. If he wants two seasons, I'd give him it. I suspect he's not one of the biggest earners anyway. Regarding all those saying he won't cut it in the Prem.. how do you know? Who would have expected Lloyd to have had his best ever season in a City shirt this time round? 2 seasons for a player who has given the club so much, never moaned, never complained.. compared to some of the fookin bang-average players in the Prem, earning stupid money? Shame on all you doubters. I hope Lloyd does stay and proves you all wrong. Great post. Agree with 99% of it. Thing is though, haven't Konch, Morgan, and GTF all accepted one year deals? In fact, all our over 30s are now on one year deals. It seems to be club policy and if it's good enough for the club captain it should be good enough for Dyer. I really hope he stays. Lloyd should remember that a single year in the Prem would raise his reputation considerably. If he leaves at the end of next season with a good year of Prem experience his next contract could be worth a lot more than he'll get if he leaves now.

Guest Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 A legend at a club is someone who has been okay to good over a 6 year period. Football has changed a lot over the last 5 décades.
Karljohn Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Didn't QPR come in for him in January? Just wonder if he's waiting on their league status?

Morgan has led the way with his new one year - which tbf they said they were looking to extend - and players of a similar age to Dyer have been offered probably almost duplicate terms and have accepted. This is likely to be Dyer's last chance in the premiership and a really hope he doesn't shun it and leave us. He's always a good player to have in the squad and his pace causes massive problems - capable of taking to players out of the game - and there are very few out and out wingers like him left around meaning he will be very hard to replace. I really do want Lloyd to stay.
ozvaldo Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 I'd like him to stay but only as an impact player. Love the pace, and when he wants to be, he's terryfying. However, I just think we need a little more end-product from our wide men next season. Having bags of pace with minimal crossing ability won't be good enough next year. We need him to reserve his pace, come on with 15 mins to go and score a break away goal like his against Fulham in the cup this year. That was simply beautiful.
weller54 Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Swap him for Luke Freeman (Stevenage).. Younger, trickier, great from dead ball positions.. Lloyd is ready for a lower league!

Shame on all you doubters. I hope Lloyd does stay and proves you all wrong. I broadly agree. Can't make my mind up whether he should've been offered 2 years. but I'd love him to take up the one year option. First - he owes himself the chance to give it a go in the Prem with us, as he's been Mr Loyal over the rollercoaster years in helping us to get there, and the journey has seen many ups & downs for him too as he has had to fight for his place back several times. It should be the crowning point of his career. Second - many fans assume he won't be up to the Prem, and they may be proved right. However, these same fans have written him off season after season (for example, saying he wouldn't make the step up to the Championship), and have been proved wrong. He has as much chance of being able to step up as most others in the squad. At the end of the day, no one can know until he is actually given the opportunity to test himself. As others have pointed out on here, he's troubled the few Prem teams we've come across, and scored against Real. And finally, his pace could be invaluable, especially towards the end of games. Even the better Prem defenders are vulnerable against real pace, and I could see it as a useful tactic when under the cosh to have Lloyd and Vardy up there to seize on a well-aimed clearance. Come on Lloydy, sign up for the year!
WardyisPukka Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 Stringer's interview with Pearson yesterday was rather telling! sounds like Nige is really fooked off with Dyer's agent calling him a buffon and sounds like Nige has told Dyer his role for next season http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27267097 - 6 minutes in about Dyer
Gubbins Posted 4 May 2014 Posted 4 May 2014 You can't go and give long contracts out on sentimentality (in a footballing sense he is only just worth a one year contract) or we could very well end up in the same situation as we currently have with Gallagher this time next year. We already have schlupp to replace him and apart from pace he is better in every respect.

He's caused problems nearly every time we've played a Prem team in the cup, said this ever since promotion was on the cards. I've never even been his biggest fan but I know he can be a danger when on form.
