tom27111 Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Gerrard will always be defined by the slip against Chelsea, costing them the title. Sorry, it's true.
purpleronnie Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Didn't really get gerrard mentioning he'll be able to spend more time with his family, the MLS season is almost as long as the premiership and given the huge amount of extra travelling you have to do in the MLS not sure he will have any more time.
Guest ttfn Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 So nobody's turned up at his house threatening to break his legs if he goes to LA then?
marko Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Is the wankathon for Gerrard over yet??? Hang on, I'm just in the vinegar strokes. Great servant to Liverpool and single handedly dragged them to that Champions League win in 2005.
ousefox Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Glad he lost. Good player. What he ever done for England or me?? Nothing. Go to America and earn some dollar. Only Ashley Cole has had a better England career than him in the last ten years.

marko Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Seriously? You might want to double check your facts. Another person brainwashed by the media. Scored a late, late goal against Olympiakos to get them out the group, scored, set-up and was the driving force in their second half come back against Milan. Cant think of any other player in their side who was as influential in that campaign. Cheer up! We've avoided relegation.
shailen Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Seriously? You might want to double check your facts. Another person brainwashed by the media. Did you not watch the champions league final in 04/05. He was the catalyst. That year he scored in the last few minutes against Olympiakos to qualify them for the knockout stages. Same with the 06 FA cup final, he saved that game for Liverpool when it looked list. I've bantered him about that slip, but there is no doubt he's been one of the best midfielders in PL history.

I also seem to recall Didi Hamann making the difference in that final when he came on for Harry Kewell? Sorry, it's all about the slip. He cost Liverpool their first title in over 20 years. In the words of Rafa Benitez......"FACT"

pazzerfox Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Not a massive Gerrard fan myself. If Sir Alex say's he's not World Class, then I for one believe him.
hebangsthedrums Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Scored a late, late goal against Olympiakos to get them out the group, scored, set-up and was the diving force in their second half come back against Milan. Raj Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 I hate Liverpool. I hate Gerrard. BUT seven I admit he has been a legend in British domestic football and he DID almost singlehandedly win them the Champs League and how he turned around the West ham FA cup final was heroic. Still a cvnt though!!! !!!

In the words of Rafa Benitez......"FACT" No one moment costs any team a title. You've been brainwashed by the media since they focus on that one slip. For all the goals they scored they conceded too many. No one talks about the points they dropped against Hull last season. It was highlighted due to the magnitude of the game, but it's not the reason they lost the title. Man City got more results than them and that is all that counts.

If that's your argument, no one single player wins a Champions League? Not that Gerrard even came close to doing that.
J.Lisemore Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 It must be cool to go against the grain these days, seeing people on social websites claiming how Gerrard isn't a legend bla bla bla. Why can't we all accept that he has been brilliant for Liverpool. Yes, he hasn't been great for England, but how many have in recent times? They're fvcking crap. I dont agree with all this fuss either, but he's hardly asking for it.
tom27111 Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 I'm not saying he was shit, because that clearly isn't the case. His loyalty can be commended, but that was at his sacrifice for staying at Liverpool. He could have won so much more if he'd left an average team.
shailen Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 If that's your argument, no one single player wins a Champions League? Not that Gerrard even came close to doing that. No player ever wins anything singlehandedly. Gerrard was the catalyst. He brought them back from the dead twice that year. He is a big game player. Obviously others contributed but he was the main man. Last season it was mainly about Suarez and sturridge. My point is especially in a league competition, no one moment defines a season. If you pick up enough points you deservedly win the league. Liverpool dropped too many points they shouldn't have, much like the 08/09 season when they should have won the league.
tom27111 Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 He massively underachieved because he stayed at Liverpool. Liverpool club legend, yes. Legend, no.
trabuch Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Who gives a sh1t. We will get points off LFC next season.
shailen Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 He massively underachieved because he stayed at Liverpool. Liverpool club legend, yes. Legend, no I agree he could have won more if he did move to Chelsea, but he chose loyalty over personal accolades. A bit like Shearer at Newcastle. But it doesn't mean he was any less of a player just because he hasn't won the same trophies as others. He is a PL legend and at his peak could have played in any of the title winning sides throughout any generation. A players quality should not only be judged by the trophies they win because then only players from 2/3 clubs can be considered world class.
Corky Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Shearer gets a bit of unfair stick for choosing Newcastle over trophies. Newcastle finished second the year before he joined and in his first season too, they were a genuine force as well as being his boyhood team in 1996.
