Guest seanfox778 Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Not too fond of Liverpool but I have to say I've enjoyed watching Steven Gerrard over the years and it is a bit sad knowing you won't see him play in this league again (apart from next week). Same when Scholes retired, when Beckham left for Spain and when Lampard says goodbye. You just get used to seeing these players and when they go I feel a tinge of sadness, I guess it reminds me that I'm getting older too. Did anyone see that video of Beckham's final 5 minutes for PSG before he retired? That got me a bit.
Samilktray Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Great player and a legend but he'll always be in Frank Lampards shadow
cjslcfc Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Great player and a legend but he'll always be in Frank Lampards shadow I've actually always preferred Lampard to Gerrard.
Jimothy Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Not wanted to make this turn into the old Gerrard/Lampard debate, but whilst they are both great player, Gerrard is another level up to Lampard. Lampard is a great goal scoring midfielder, Gerrard is the complete midfielder, in fact almost the complete footballer, you could play him in any role and he'd perform to a top class standard. Chelsea have won numerous trophies thanks to Lampard being part of an outstanding team, Liverpool won a few trophies because Gerrard dragged an average team to victory. Stick Lampard in that Champions League final team in place of Gerrard, or the FA Final team a year later and tell me Liverpool still win those cups, because they wouldn't.

Scholes was far superior to both.

SystonFox Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Great player and a legend but he'll always be in Frank Lampards shadow Mainly cos frank is so bloody fat
Jimothy Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 You don't need to. Scholes was far superior to both. Scholes couldn't tackle and his cock fell out his shorts, that counts him out of the debate.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Danny Rose's hair colour...!!! still scored an absolute cracker today
Jimothy Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Gerrard is better, but Lampard had a better career I'd say Well yeah because Lampard played for a better team, and therefore won more. Not taking anything away from Lampards goal scoring record either, it's fantastic, but he was pretty much given a role where he was protected by a couple of defensive midfielders and given free range to attack. There are other players in similar roles who don't score half as many so his record is great. But whilst he's practically playing as a deep striker with barely any defensive responsibility, Gerrard was pretty much playing both defensive and attacking roles, and still scoring a fantastic amount of goals.
tom27111 Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Scholes couldn't tackle and his cock fell out his shorts, that counts him out of the debate. If you think Lampard and/or Gerrard were better then Scholes, then I presume you're drunk. Or an idiot The tackling thing was exaggerated. And we didn't see enough of his ginger cock

And we didn't see enough of his ginger cock Lampard is nowhere near Scholes, but for me it's close between him and Gerrard. And really the tackling thing isn't exaggerating. He's was great at everything else, but ****ing shocking tackling. One of the worst tacklers I've seen playing professional football.

Mark_w Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 I'm kind of half watching MOTD, did John Carver just blame the climate?
marko Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 I'm kind of half watching MOTD, did John Carver just blame the climate? And the hot weather, but they kept on going.
Jimothy Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 You've just proved you don't watch much football then! I watch a lot, and Scholes was shit at tackling. Used to piss me off when the commentators used to laugh it off too. "Oh Scholesy, never been good at tackling has he. Hahahaha!" As he crunches someone for the umpteenth time with a yet another badly timed tackle.

It was something that commentators picked up on and it stuck. I've seen Gerrard make worse tackles, a Merseyside derby springs to mind. But if you could do what Scholes did with a ball, who cares about tackling!? Especially when you know Roy Keane is stood behind you
Carl the Llama Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Shearer seething on MOTD, expected him to jump out his chair and maul Jenas any second

I've seen Gerrard make worse tackles, a Merseyside derby springs to mind. But if you could do what Scholes did with a ball, who cares about tackling!? Especially when you know Roy Keane is stood behind you I've seen a lot of people make much worse tackles than Scholes, but collectively he was the worst. And it's not that he was a dirty player, he just didn't have that ability, so he kept clattering people. At one point in 2013 he was the third most booked player in premier league history, for someone not particularly famed for being a tough tackling defensive midfielder, that's a telling stat.

I see where you're coming from, but he must also have been up there with most appearances. It's like asking someone to name the greatest 11 of all time. Nobody can be right, there's no definitive answer. But from watching him over the years, I thought he was incredible, it's almost sad to see him as a pundit, because you miss the talent when it's gone. In years to come, maybe not seeing Gerrard and Lampard play, I'll feel the same about them. Almost as if you don't appreciate it until it's gone. What fellow professionals have said about Scholes speaks volumes though. For the record, I hate Man Utd!
Phube Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Gerrard is the complete midfielder, in fact almost the complete footballer, you could play him in any role and he'd perform to a top class standard. Except when you put him in a white shirt and blue shorts?
The Doctor Posted 16 May 2015 Posted 16 May 2015 Zaha offside for his goal, penalty outside the box. Wonder how much gerrard fc are complaining about them?
