He wants to walk into the big time without doing any of the hard work !! He is not the player you build a team around.

He's nowhere near as good as he think he is, Liverpool is the best side he'll play week in, week out for.

Whilst I disagree with most of what Carragher says his comments were spot on last night. If Sterling wants CL football and Trophies he could have had that this season with Liverpool but in the big games he's gone missing. He's only a young lad so to place blame on him is harsh but in the Semi-Final he made Vlaar look like Bobby Moore. Also he's played up front this season (remember when he played WB and moaned) and is still behind Gerrard in the scoring charts.

He's either a moron or listening to the wrong people. If I were Liverpool I'd accept any bid over £40m and say thanks. Enjoy your £150k on the bench because we know that's what you want

Sterling is a winger though really. Needs to be in a side where there are decent finishers. He'd do better at a bigger side than Liverpool.

Sterling is obviously a bit of a nob but Liverpool are mostly an awful side with an average manager, he's been played at wingback and as a striker and he's clearly neither, he's trying to supply Balotelli and Lambert too. Hardly a brilliant side and it's a terrible argument to suggest "Well if you want to win trophies you should play better then."

I don't think Sterling has been particularly overhyped - most pundits have been balanced when talking about him, whereas Kane :nigel:

That's not really the entire argument. No-one is suggesting he should have won the FA Cup single handed for Liverpool if he wants a trophy but it's more the fact that he's not exactly setting the world on fire and hasn't even been Liverpool best player in a poor season yet he thinks he has a right to expect more.

Suarez for all his faults, was a phenomenon last season, he didn't win anything for the team but he tried his damn hardest. He earned his big move to Barcelona by showing his talents on the pitch and almost dragging an average side to the title. All Sterling has done is talk about wanting a move (not for the money apparently) but nothing that I've seen since January has led me to believe he's worth anywhere near what he expects. You earn moves on the pitch not in interviews on the BBC

I never said it was but you could say it about almost any player.

They would be wise to sell him & buy someone with Character. He needs to see how players like Vardy got there. Fvcking hard work !!!

He's a great creative player, playing for a team with awful finishers and a crap central midfield. If he doesn't leave Liverpool he won't progress his career.

Not every player does an interview on the BBC without the consent of his club.

I think he's a very good young player but that's all. I genuinely think he believes his own hype and think he'll walk into a Real Madrid side. Heck he wouldn't even get anywhere near the Arsenal side in my opinion.

I just think he needs to start performing a bit better for his current club (difficult I understand because Liverpool are woeful) before giving demands left, right and centre and demanding CL football and trophies

I'm not sure how good he is, because he looked really good with Sturridge & suarez ahead of him, but poor with thisa season's Liverpool frontline.

He won't grow at Liverpool, they've now got a squad of bang average players, only Henderson is rises above that

Sterling has consistently looked like one of the best players in the world for his age since I first heard of him at around 15/16. He's not had as good a year as he did last year but then the players around him are a lot worse. Obviously you can never tell how a player will develop but he has a lot of potential.

He needs a lot more than potential for 30 million quid.

Like they've penalised us for Huth's twitter ban.

A quarter of our 'points' are due to that, lol.

If that had been given to Stoke instead of us we'd be 12th...

Swear any half decent English player ends up being a dickhead of some sort these days. Lampard the obvious exception.

Part of it must surely be down to money and the negative effect it can have on younger players in particular.  The guy's only twenty but may be thinking of himself as the next Pelé.

Coupled with bad management, it spells disaster.

Who's acting on his behalf in terms of contract dealings, anyway? Is he being represented by family members?

Definitely think the media over here have some responsibility to take. No matter what someone's like naturally, the absolute fawning from the media over anyone half decent and young in this country cannot possibly help them from a mental point of view.

Sterling doesn't deserve a move for me. He's a very talented kid, but I don't think he's really shown it enough in recent times to deserve a move to a top club. Then again, what people do and don't deserve doesn't tend to be how it works so I fully expect him to end up in a Man City shirt by August.

He's in for a huge shock if he joins Real Madrid.

The comparison to Suarez is a good one too. Suarez is a bit of a scumbag but on the pitch he is literally everything you would want from a top striker. He's got it all.

I can't see him staying after all the crap he's been getting. Liverpool is such a shit club anyway. Hope he goes to Man City or Arsenal.

I've just had to double check, I thought Liverpool had been relegated from the comments on here, but no still fifth, they lost one of the best forwards in the world in the summer, had their other star player injured. This is exactly where the criticism of Sterling comes from, they could easily have taken a champions league spot but Sterling just hasn't turned up in too many games.

Sterling will turn out to be another Walcott or Oxlade-Chamberlain or Lennon lots of early promise but will never fulfil it one serious injury he will lose his pace and never be the same again.

Best thing for him would be to stay or go to a Spanish club where he will get a chance to attack and not be kicked to pieces.

Problem is he is coming across as a right **** at the moment so people will tArget him like they did Ashley Cole, even more reason for him to go to Spain.

Speaking of Cole, is he still in Rome or did he retire?
