UpTheLeagueFox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Just watched the DVD in full and I have to COMPLAIN about several things. The club has charged us £10 yes TEN WHOLE ENGLISH POUNDS, and for that I expected the full 90 minutes of EVERY game (including pre season friendlies) in FULL HD plus extended, in depth, exclusive post match interviews following EVERY MATCH. I also expected that for £10 the DVD would be delivered IN PERSON by the FULL SQUAD including the manager and the backroom staff on a silver plate. Disgusted that this DID NOT HAPPEN. The club should ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR RIPPING US OFF IN THIS WAY On a serious note, it was a bloody brilliant souvenir of a magnificent season and an absolute bargain for a tenner.
DennisNedry Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 They haven't seriously missed out a picture of the league table end of every month have they? No, it's on there.

Oh, that rant wasn't serious, then?
Footballwipe Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 You're so hilarious. I thought this too. I don't see what's so bad about having a couple of gripes with the DVD. It's 2014 and no Blu-Ray version was published despite the games being filmed in high definition, that's a disappointment. The only mitigation is that most other clubs don't do BR either, however it would've been nice to set a precedent. Interviews I'm not bothered with, I can't stand footballers blathering on with the same generic crap, so the less we had of that the better. It would've been nice to have a voiceover, one of the best they ever did was the 02/03 season review with Gary Newbon (A Carlton production) doing the voice over and Mark Bolton (of former Revista De La Liga fame) doing the dubbed on commentary. But they key for me is context. I dislike season reviews that leave things out, like red cards, missed penalties and controversial incidents. Voiceovers can add context and other information that help to preserve the season too. A lot of the things I can recite from season reviews come from voiceovers. The best thing they have is real commentary from the games where we're the World Feed and live on Sky. I'm glad they've used those. Dubbed in commentary is never good or realistic but it's a necessary evil. Of course it's value for money for ten pounds, and as I said previously that's about it. It's not as good as it COULD be, and I think the reason some people are slightly disappointed is because this was such a special season, such a one-off it would've been nice to have a season review DVD with the production quality to reflect this. They didn't, and what they produced was worth what they charged, but not as good as reviews from yesteryear. Some people are overreacting, but quite why a "professional broadcaster" feels the need to act like a child and moan about the moaners in the most unfunny way possible it beyond me.

Bargain for £10, you must be easily pleased. Though I doubt you had to pay for it anyway.
Bryn Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 I just think it's hugely disappointing, I thought LCFC were aiming to be a Premier club? Premier businesses produce top quality products, I would understand if this was a challenging task but as others said all the footage and that is already there, the quality of the football is already there, it just needs a bit of simple polish. I would happily pay £20 for a HD, high quality product with good extras and they've copped out bigtime.
MrSpaM Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 5 quid to deliver a DVD less than a mile! Havin a giraffe!

Agree re voiceovers, I personally think that would've been better than commentary done afterwards. Acting like a child? I was having a light hearted mess about. Surprised some have taken it so bloody seriously but there you go
StanSP Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 5 quid to deliver a DVD less than a mile! Havin a giraffe! In your situation, surely it could be easier to go to the actual store and pick it up?
Bert Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Oneast thing, people have a right to be annoyed that it wasn't all in HD, as that was the reason that there wasn't a DVD issued, because all of the highlights weren't recorded in HD.
Stevosevic Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Could have been better, yes, but it was only a tenner, hardly worth moaning about. Most of you will piss away a tenner and more in the pub every weekend.
terrybuck Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 oh bugger cocked up my post there!!! all i wanted to say was , don't take it to heart geoff. you're still the best hioliday rep i ever had in ibiza!!!
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 don't take it to heart geoff. Don't worry, I haven't and won't It's a football messageboard, hardly real life...

Neither were a lot of old films but you see them digitally remastered and released on blu ray/HD...
Kitchandro Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Just showing the highlights takes up a lot of time, I don't really want a three disk box set that takes 50 hours to watch with full in depth interviews from Filbert The Fox and Lee Jobber. It just needs to remind you of the best moments from the season. It's better than any of the other season reviews, and if you want to watch in depth highlights, interviews and tunnel cam, then you can sign up for Foxes Player. Season Reviews aren't really about doing anything more than showing highlights from every game, none of the end of season reviews I've bought have been particularly different or better than this one. You've obviously never watched a 90s season review.
teblin Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Neither were a lot of old films but you see them digitally remastered and released on blu ray/HD... By Companies with more money, time and technical resources than LCFC?

I agree with your comment on the 2002/03 Carlton Video review being best with the VoiceOver !! I still watch it now'n again was set out great especially with move from Filbert street to KP, shame this seasons wasn't as good in honesty but something they could inprove for next season
Guest MattP Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Meh - My review of it. It was ok. £10 I suppose we should expect it to be sub standard. Not gonna moan like hell but a couple of points. 1. This was a special season, why the rush to get it out so quick? World Cup fever is here, I would have rather they took their time and made it an absolute cracker. If if meant waiting until July so be it, patience is a virtue. 2. It's supposed to be a 'review' - not a highlights package, they should be filing this all year with footage inside the club at certain times, it's clear it was only an after thought to do this as we had gone up as champions. Fact is though it's pretty much standard of everything in the place at the minute from the club shop to the stewaring to the ticket office, they know they can treat the customers like shit and they'll still come back for more with their wallets open and tongues hanging out given our success. The club should be paying Pearson 5million a year, if he hadn't sorted out this mess on the pitch they would be losing money and customers at the same level as Coventry.
Mark_w Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 You've obviously never watched a 90s season review. I watched quite a few of the earlier ones as a kid, but other than a bit of narration I can't remember them being that different. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me.

Good luck getting that across to most fans! If they were going to wait til then, they'd have to make sure it was absolutely perfect. That kind of puts more pressure on them and I can absolutely guarantee that even if they waited til then to bring it out there would have still been some moaners. And can also guarantee it would cost more than £10. The club saw this as a way to make a hell of a lot of money because of the demand - a lot of people were anticipating this DVD and at the time, were still on the crest of a wave and the buzz having just got promoted as champions. The club clearly saw that and took up the opportunity to virtually cash in while they can.

Guest Electric Yetis Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 All of the early 90s ones had good commentary that was done live or at least sounded as though it was.
Bert Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 All of the early 90s ones had good commentary that was done live or at least sounded as though it was.Turn your mute button off, this review also has commentary.
Kitchandro Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 You're right. They're hardly any different apart from narration. Not true at all. The music was memorable. The commentary was much more interesting and impassioned (not sure if it was done live but a lot of it sounded as if it was). The highlights for the TV matches were not rushed, they had full replays as if live etc. The interviews were all from different periods in the season and not this boring looking back in hindsight thing we have now (Kingy trotting out clichés about s tight knit squad etc) Besides, good narration in itself makes a huge difference. In short they were all much more interesting and reflected the excitement of the seasons much better.
