LanguedocFox Posted 16 May 2014 Posted 16 May 2014 I belong to a few other fans' forums including DCFCFans and QPRdot.org, both of which have posters who seem like really good people. I'm watching and listening to them planning what they are going to do on 26 May and feeling vaguely jealous. I mean, I would not swap our position for their situation at all, but part of me thinks that I would love to be doing it all over again like we did in the 1990s. Does anyone else feel the same kind of confusion?

Jimothy Posted 16 May 2014 Posted 16 May 2014 No. Its a great feeling when you have no other option but to go up via the play offs. And it is a strange kind of adulation getting promoted off of one match, but I wouldn't want to do if we didn't have to, and we don't have to.

I get that to a degree, but the pride in leading the league for such a long time and surpassing 100 points is better for me. We may not see that again for a long time, if ever.

Despite me saying the playoffs are the best way of going up I wouldn't swap this season for anything, especially given like you say leading the league for as long as we did.

Carl the Llama Posted 16 May 2014 Posted 16 May 2014 How many times do we have to have the playoffs vs champions discussion? Clearly it's more impressive to win the league - smashing records along the way and finishing on 102 points - than it is to get 85 or 80 points and win a mini knockout competition against 2 of 3 other teams who weren't good enough over the course of the season to finish in the top 2 places. For what it's worth I think the playoffs are an insult to the team who finished 3rd, it's like saying: "Congratulations, as far as the league table's concerned you're the 3rd best team in the league this year, now win 2 ties against 2 of the 3 teams below you if you want that to mean anything." Not that I have any problem with us winning them from below 3rd, but you can't deny 3rd place - so Derby this year - always deserve promotion more than the other teams in the playoffs.

Claridge's 120th minute goal was surely one of the most exciting promotions ever. 102 points is of course a great way to go up too but it's quite a different feeling, this season was the only one when I felt quite relaxed for the last month or so. The competition had mostly disappeared by then.

WHAT IS ****ING WRONG WITH YOU To me the best thing about being a football fan are the moments when you go completely off your head at what you've seen on the pitch. At no point in this season can I say I felt better about Leicester City than when Knockaert scored against Forest the year before and in the lengthy celebrations afterwords. I'm assuming the a PO final win would've felt even better. As I said, this has been a fantastic way of going up and I rreally don't know if I'd trade one for the other. I will say though that the thought of going berserk at a late goal to take us up does sound rather appealing right now...
