Babylon Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 We've currently got on the books Vardy, Wood, Nugent, Taylor-Fletcher and Campbell it seems as first team strikers. That'll be 6 if we're to bring another striker so we should be offloading at least one. The best teams in this league have quality, not quantity up front. Just look at Southampton, Rodriquez is their main striker. Do they have 5 other championship strikers on the books to compete with him? No, just Sharp who went out on loan as soon as they got promoted. They have the likes of Lallana or RamÃrez to play the role Nugent plays for us, and that's the kind of player we should be making our priority. Would that be Jay Rodriquez former championship striker, if you were a Saints fans you'd have been one of the fans on their board asking why the management were signing "another championship striker" as Saints already had two in Lambert and Sharp.
Westlife Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 I didn't care for him or his words of wisdom then . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StlMdNcvCJo&feature=kp . . . and I still don't now.

It's a good job we don't have to be one of the best teams in this league then, bit of a silly comparison comparing us with Southampton who have been in this league for 2 seasons now and are pretty established. Besides, if we want to be funny about it they have no other striker to compete with Jay Rodriguez barring Billy Sharp who isn't better than any of our strikers. Wouldn't really call that a lot of quality up front personally.

Thracian Posted 29 June 2014 Posted 29 June 2014 Could you tell me what you've not been concerned about the last three years, all you've done since he came back is slag off his signings, slag off his team selection, slag off his subs, basically every single decision he makes... of course you had been brilliantly wrong on almost everything. Do you ever stop to think that perhaps the manager knows better than you? Whether they ultimately end up being good enough for the premier (the manger or Nugent) is yet to be seen, but they have both earnt their chance. Pearson has certainly earnt the right to do things his way, without being second guessed by people who have actually proven themselves incorrect and a rather large number of occasions. You ought to be careful with that "manager knows better" argument. You've always struck me as a supportive voice where managers are concerned and Pearson has justly earned a lot of slack. But you'd have to go back a long way before him to find a manager who persuaded me they knew anything much and some have been right duffers.

Guest Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 And even those managers still have a greater understanding of the game than your average fan! Are you inferring that Thracian is an "average fan"?
Gubbins Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 And even those managers still have a greater understanding of the game than your average fan! Peter Taylor does not have a better understanding of the game than me! So what your saying is that fans should at no point question or be concerned about what a manager is doing because they know the game better??? May as well close the forum down.

At what point did I say that? Of course you can have your opinions and be concerned at times, all fans do and are entitled to..... Out of interest what level of playing or coaching have you reached?
Gubbins Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 I might have got a man of the match award during PE once when I was in school. More than enough to make myself better than Taylor!!!

I never said he knows better (although I'm sure he probably does) I said he had earnt the right to do it his way, most of those moaning are the same ones who have done so over the last few years. The ones who always blamed the manger for everything, even without evidence. You would have thought by now they might just wait and see rather than go to the default setting of I'm right and Pearson is wrong again.

I must say it is refreshing to have so many varied and diverse opinions on this forum, with people who dare to have their views aired whether they be outside the 'party line' or not. There are too many boring, one dimensional, unimaginative people who just do the 'safe' option on here.

You can't blame a few for having reservations though and this is the place to air them so I think it's fair to say Pearson isn't quite finished in the transfer market yet as well , just because Nugents stays doesn't mean a new face might not come in with Wood going out on loan.

Father Ted Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 Heard directly from a current Middlesbrough player that Nuge has had a 3 year contract offer from them offering more than we have. This could be the reasoning for the stuttering in negotiations at the moment.

Not saying you've lied mate, but I don't have a clue why we'd allow him back into training with his current deal elapsing - if he wasn't going to resign? We may hear more on this either way tomorrow I'd expect.
