Bert Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 It's not just what he offers on the pitch that's important from Nuge. Big part of team morale.
lcfcsnow Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 It's not just what he offers on the pitch that's important from Nuge. Big part of team morale. Like when he had a month long mardy and rant on twitter when he wasn't starting at the start of the previous season? "That's why you don't drop your top scorer". Didn't look good for morale when he was sulking, booting the ball over the stands pre match at Torquay because he wasn't first choice. And if he isn't first choice next season, will we see the same? If he his first choice, I worry we'll struggle anyway! Sadly we've probably just gave into his demands.

If you actually understood football then you'd know the disappointment that players go through when they're not playing. I forgot these people are human beings after all. I'm glad you know it all anyway.
StanSP Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 5-year contract. £46k per week. Good deal all round. Chomp.

NewquayFox Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 Great news if true, couple more decent players signed and City will hold their own next season.....
Robin JD Popley Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 Whatever the length of his contract, his contribution to the team on and off the pitch is invaluable. Was delighted when we first signed him and am delighted that he is staying - NUGE!!!

Candidcamera Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 Agree about his character but I always thought the same about Gallagher and I wouldn't want him to hold us back.
Stevosevic Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 To be fair, his attitude at the beginning of last season when Beckford and Vardy started the first few games upfront was Gallagher-esque.
Corky Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 The best decision for both parties. Would have been silly to have lost him over the length of a contract. He's only 29, it's not as if this is his last contract. It's possibly the last chance he'll have to play in the PL though. I don't see Nugent being much less effective in the PL to last season, he's not going to be hugely prolific from open play but I can see him pinching us some goals in tight games. He has won us a lot of points in his time here. We've got the best out of him goalscoring wise, he doesn't strike me as a natural finisher and several of his goals have been out of little or nothing (Boro home in 2013, Burnley away last season, couple at Watford in 2012, Derby home in 2011). We'll need those moments at times next season.
LCFC FOX Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 To be fair, his attitude at the beginning of last season when Beckford and Vardy started the first few games upfront was Gallagher-esque. that partnership was actually pretty decent, and then they both went shite very quickly
Callabinho Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 Nugent is quality, has bad days and good days, but has been our top goal scorer consistently since he signed. He is a top player and I'm chuffed to bits he's signed a new contract.
J.Lisemore Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 Can't help but think with it dragging out for so long, we possibly gave in to his demands. Will he be worth it? We'll see.
lcfcsnow Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 Let's just hope we're still in touch come January then as it doesn't look like we're going to strengthen the squad enough. If this is any more than a 2 year contract we've been well and truly had, only ourselves to blame though. Going into the Prem with a championship strikeforce is a cause for concern for me, if it isn't for anyone else.

Why does renewing the contract of a striker mean that we're not going to strengthen up front? You do realise we're going to need squad players too, right? If the Premier League was starting next week, then yeah - I'd be worried. But it's not, we've got about two months yet.

You do realise we're going to need squad players too, right? If the Premier League was starting next week, then yeah - I'd be worried. But it's not, we've got about two months yet. We've currently got on the books Vardy, Wood, Nugent, Taylor-Fletcher and Campbell it seems as first team strikers. That'll be 6 if we're to bring another striker so we should be offloading at least one. The best teams in this league have quality, not quantity up front. Just look at Southampton, Rodriquez is their main striker. Do they have 5 other championship strikers on the books to compete with him? No, just Sharp who went out on loan as soon as they got promoted. They have the likes of Lallana or RamÃrez to play the role Nugent plays for us, and that's the kind of player we should be making our priority.
dpjfox Posted 27 June 2014 Posted 27 June 2014 id prefer Nugent stayed but i hope the club didnt break any "wage structure" to get his signature. He seems an important player to keep within the squad but imo Vardy is the favoured NP striker choice, and with possibly 2 more strikers coming in the competition will be fierce and maybe all will have to be prepared for some "bench time"

Going into the Prem with a championship strikeforce is a cause for concern for me, if it isn't for anyone else. Could you tell me what you've not been concerned about the last three years, all you've done since he came back is slag off his signings, slag off his team selection, slag off his subs, basically every single decision he makes... of course you had been brilliantly wrong on almost everything. Do you ever stop to think that perhaps the manager knows better than you? Whether they ultimately end up being good enough for the premier (the manger or Nugent) is yet to be seen, but they have both earnt their chance. Pearson has certainly earnt the right to do things his way, without being second guessed by people who have actually proven themselves incorrect and a rather large number of occasions.
