Nuge contract talks stall..

Nuge has always given off a vibe that he's very happy here so I'm sure if it's up to him he'll stay.

We're definitely going to sign at least one striker this summer though so maybe he's being told he'll get less game time probably like the dyer situation.

Plus, never underestimate the influence of an agent when it comes to contracts and wages.

It makes me laugh when people say footballers have a very limited career.

If they can't set themselves up after earning say 10 grand a week for 10 years then they must be bloody stupid.

And if they can't why can't they pick up a paintbrush or teach kids sport like the rest of us?

Me to ok not all but some earn 10 x the average wage a week so in one year earn 520 years wages.

x that by 10years 5200 years in 10 years.

I so wish I had a short career lucky fvckers.

same job since 1987 , mortgage paid off , 2 sons following City since 1979 ( first game) , you may be losing touch with reality down in Aus , stick to Neighbours bud

Nuge doesn't play or for Portsmouth no more  , yet still takes the 3k pay day every month on top of his Lcfc contract , plus sponsopship

very unethical in my book

It's unethical to offer players money you can't afford to gain an advantage over other teams. Nugent has deferred the money owing to him, that doesn't make him a bad person.

My understanding nugent is still on holiday .......

Back tomorrow so time to chill and get real I think

With jet leg, food shopping and trip to the launderette, might not hear anything until Wednesday!!

Jet lag? It was a caravan in Mablethorpe.

I was in polite way saying that he will be recovering from a hangover from all the White Lightning he would be drinking!!

I would carry on taking the money if I was Nugent without any doubt.

He signed a contract and is entitled to what is due.

It could have easily worked out the other way where Pompey did well, he wasn't and they certainly would have tried to shoe horn him out of the club.

Football is brutal from both sides, and you don't see instances of clubs severing contracts and allowing players to go if the player sees a better opportunity elsewhere. Of course the clubs hold out for huge transfer fees.

Don't blame Nugent, blame Pompeys mismanagement, which has caused their downfall.

On a seperate, but related point. Always makes me smile that when someone does well and earns well they are suddenly greedy. Nugent has suddenly become greedy by looking at options after his contract has expired. It is only what everyone else would do, but as he is quite wealthy, for some reason he is seen as greedy.

Maybe when you are well off you are not allowed in some people's eyes to continue to do the best for you and your family??

Your post is exactly the greedy attitude I alluded too. No one begrudges anyone from doing well but there is a line where it crosses into greed and that is what this is. Does Nugent need that money from Portsmouth ?

Precisely. Some moronic posts in this thread

Sorry if I misunderstood your sums as they were not the clearest. I now assume you mean some players earning 10 x the average annual wage in a week?

My first post so be gentle with me :) but whilst Premiership footballers can easily set themselves up for life, they still have to be careful with money, and realistically can only spend a fraction of what they earn as my financial planning article shows http://www.privateclientadviser.co.uk/blog/own-goal

Before anyone starts, I acknowledge the £200,000 per annum of spending in my article is still an absolute fortune but compared to earning a million a year it would be relatively restrained.

How can anyone say he doesn't need the money? Do you actually know his personal circumstances? He may have numerous investments or business ventures etc tieing up his earnings for all we know. Plus he has a family and his kids futures to think of, it's not like he's obviously flaunting the money with flashy sports cars or pissing it up the wall in casinos from what I can see? This is his career, it's generally a short career for footballers and if anyone says they wouldn't get out of it as much as they reasonably could in the same situation then they're either stupid or lying.

Don't be naive.

On average he has probably earnt 10,000 a week over his the past 8 years (and that is being prudent)

That is £4.16m before tax.

For comparable purposes on an average career length of 45 years that would be £92,000 a year. Which is the equivalent salary of a GP or similar.

This doesnt take into account any future earnings, or the fact he has probably earnt way more than 10k a week during his career.

He will be absolutely fine for money

Try telling that to David James?

He comes back from holiday today so expect it to be sorted out this week one way or another

Interesting that an ITK says that the Fraizer Campbell deal will also be sorted out - one way or the other - THIS WEEK !

Posted

I dont believe any of these supposed ITK's. Alot of them are just after followers or state pretty much the obvious and then say 'Told you so' when it happens

Agreed but a divorce and poor financial advice has ruined him.

Still, no excuses for basic savings. Anyone can do that. It is just down to lack of common sense, not our problem. Still doesnt justify the money or it ''not being enough''

Heard from a reliable source at the weekend that we are going to bring in no more than two more players. Most of the money is going on sorting out contracts on those we already have including management etc. A lot of people are going to be disappointed with this news but that's how it is. Nigel believes what we already have is good enougth for the prem.

Take this as face value however, let's see who is right at the beginning of this season?

Interesting chat Edited On: 19/06/2014 08:37

Email Message To A Friend | Reply To Message     with a staff member of LCFC last night, predominantly involved in the playing / recruitment side of the business.

A lot of the funds have been reinvested within the existing squad (ie) new contracts and contract extensions and the view of the management team is that they dont need many more additions.

I was told to expect 2 more tops if no players depart (starting XI)

Also said that recruitment is based on players personality rather than ability in first instance and that this group is very close knit.

Nigel doesnt like spending money and thinks of it as his own... reminder of the MON era, breath of fresh air if it all works out.

Peresonaly i think we need 3 or 4 top players to hold our own but there you go.
