Guest ttfn Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Is it just me who thinks that Shaw looks like he's about 25 rather than 18? If him and Ings lined up against you in an under-21 match you'd think the other team were taking the piss.

Manwell Pablo Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Definitely a Nigerian 18. Anyway, this has been rather listless. Decent enough win for me. They've tried very hard to sit back and counter and we've beat them 3-0
The Doctor Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Decent enough win for me. They've tried very hard to sit back and counter and we've beat them 3-0 Eh, my bigger issue is simply that England have been lethargic in possession - Peru have defended and press across the pitch, but England just don't seem to see how to get beyond them or break them down. Doesn't bode well when coming up against stronger teams like Italy and Uruguay.

theessexfox Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Hart - 7 - Good saves Johnson - 4 - Shit Cahill - 6 Jags - 6 Baines - 6 Gerrard - 6 Henderson - 6 Lallana - 6 Rooney - 5 - Shit touch Welbeck - 6 Sturridge - 7 - Great goal Wilshere looked sharp and good when he came on
ScouseFox Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Bit boring but not too bad. Win, confidence, Sturridge goal is important imo, clean sheet despite looking a bit dodgy. Players getting with each other's ideas etc. just want to skip 2 weeks now.
Eddie Big Balls Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 I don't think yu can blame them for being lethargic - they're all fresh back off a week or two's holiday and they're all desperately keen not to pick up an injury that might rule them out of the World Cup. Getting used to each others' movement and playing style while not taking unnecessary risks was the name of the game tonight and in that respect it's mission accomplished.

The Italian game will be played at that pace by both teams for 90 minutes, it honestly wouldn't of surprised me if Woy had told them to play at a snails pace in preparation for that.

Will be tough against italy
Webbo Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Bit disappointing, if Peru (they were crap) hadn't conceded 2 soft goals from corners it would have been a tight game. Glen Johnson did 1 or 2 good things a lot of bad things, worrying.

Peru didn't sit back though, they pressed. Doesn't really matter if Italy play at a slow pace - england were devoid of imagination and poor on the ball.
Leicesterpool Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 A slighty improved second half, there's still room for plenty of improvement i think one or two individuals need to work on there performances, to be honest it was difficult to judge them against a poor Peru side who looked to sit back and play on the counter. One negative thing to mention is our defending was a little sloppy tonight, probably have to be fortunate there forwards weren't up to much. Positives two defenders got goals, sturridge is amazing goal from nothing, one or two of the youngsters made good impressions, clean sheet, put away most of our chances and no injuries to report.
fox123 Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Not sure what people were expecting from a friendly where players aren't wanting to risk injury ahead of a World Cup. We had to be patient at times and slow the ball down, probably a tactic they are going to need to use in the heat and humidity of Brazil. Was an okay run out, nothing spectacular (apart from the Sturridge goal) but a good warm up.

Doesn't really matter if Italy play at a slow pace - england were devoid of imagination and poor on the ball. They had nine outfield players behind the ball every time we had the possession, they only pressed in their own half. England won 3-0 despite not playing well. Don't really know what else anyone wants. There have been very few qualifying teams running 3-0 winners in their friendlies this week. Look at the Spain score.
Unabomber Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Roy just seemed to have a nasty cough then, hope that he is ok for the WC.

In these games, it's not about the result, it's about the performance - and the performance wasn't good enough.

They sat back when we had the ball, defended, and tried to counter, this is rather clear, no debate really. Performance was fine for me, pedestrian, but fine, wouldn't expect us to go out and play like World Champions in our farwell game, although I'm watching Spain at the moment and on current evidence we played better than World Champions are in their farwell fixture.
Dan Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 3-0 flattered us big time in my opinion. We weren't terrible but weren't particularly impressive either. Our build up play was marginally better than theirs if at all. Our first goal was a lovely strike, second was well taken, third was appalling defending. It was only a warm up game so you can't read too much into that but I didn't really notice any significant change from England since the qualifiers. Peru weren't bad. Glimpses of typical South American quality every now and then but nothing special.
Haydos Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Johhnson's touch was abysmal all night long. Looked like a nervous League 1 player. You could see that we'd be asked by Roy to try and stay disciplined and hold our shape, Henderson was extremely conservative which lead to some boring stuff. I guess it's what Hodgson wanted and it is a practice game but a bit disappointing to watch.

There were plenty of times when we had a chance to thread a quick through ball yet we never really looked like we had the bollocks to do it. We're going to need to seriously improve going forward against Italy & Uruguay. Those pair won't be as generous as Peru's defence. That said Sturridge's goal was top drawer so that's something.

I'm seriously struggling to see how we're going to beat Italy or Uruguay.
