flintshirefox Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Mine was the 1982 World Cup in Spain. Mum and Dad had to go out so my cousin Tommy came round to babysit on the night of the England v Spain game. I was almost 11, my brother was 15 and hates football so he was probably in his room listening to Motorhead!
Nalis Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Mine was Cameroon v Argentina at Italia 90. Was 7 years old and admittedly it was a vague memory though I seemed smart enough to establish that Argentina were the more technically gifted side and Cameroon were pretty physical. The 'attempt tackles' on Canniggia's run would probably have been enough to get 2 men sent off...
foxoffderby Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Remember the 82 final but it's a blur. Mexico 86 and seeing Maradonna rip the Shit out of every team he played against. One man army. Italy 90 my favourite all about England and Gazza.
Jace Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Italy vs Ireland World Cup 1994 was my first World Cup game shortly before my first Leicester game was Leicester Vs Derby in the Play Off final both 2 great games I remember well
pSinatra Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Espana 82 & Bryan Robson scoring after 27 secs against a very good France side
Webbo Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 I have vague memories of 74 but 78 in Argentina and Scotland's disastrous campaign is still in the memory banks. Wanted Holland to win it on the basis that I disliked them the least.
Amin Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 My very earliest memory associated with a World Cup (and football in general) is seeing highlights of Brazil's win over Morocco in 1998 as a 5 year old. I also remember seeing a quick news report of England's win over Romania in the middle of the film Waterworld and coming back from a village fete to see the end of Holland's victory over Argentina, although I don't remember Bergkamp's goal. The only clear memory I have of the tournament is the final. I remember that I was ill but I managed to convince my Mum to let me watch the match. After France beat Brazil, I felt extremely sorry for Brazil and Ronaldo and that was the start of my love for both the player and the team. The 1998 World Cup single handedly turned me into a football fan and that's why I'll always love the World Cup more than any other event in sport.
Fox92 Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Can remember '98 just, I had that shirt as well and it remains my favourite, but actually realizing what the World Cup is and what it means I'd say 2002. I was only 11 but I remember it quite well. Used to go to school real early because school would open and everybody would watch the games in the hall and get breakfast.
Kitchandro Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 England v Tunisia at France 98. I have very little memory of the actual match but I do remember drawing a picture of both goals, which I still have. Other memories of that World Cup include Owen's goal and my dad's reaction to it, having serious man love for Baggio, Bergkamp, Zidane, Salas, and strangely that Hernandez who played for Mexico; and discovering a player called Arce for Paraguay, which naturally, as a 6 year old, I pronounced wrong and thought it was hilarious.
foxfanazer Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 France 98 is as early as I can remember the world cup. Can't even remember much of that. Thats all, Thanks
davieG Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T5jVMSlpZhg 62 Chile v Italy battle it out. Mostly as a news report.
flintshirefox Posted 8 June 2014 Author Posted 8 June 2014 I dont really recall a lot about 82 but I was in the 4th year High School during Mexico 86...unfortunately the time difference made it difficult, though I was allowed to stay up late to watch England v Morocco.
Xen Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Back when I was in year 3, going to school early one morning to sit in the hall with load of other students to watch the 2002 England vs Brazil game live on TV.
BoneDog Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 I can vaguely remember '82 and Paolo Rossi scoring goals. I think Platini was a big part of that one aswell.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Our first France '98 qualifier against Moldova in 1996 live on the Beeb. David Beckham's first cap if I recall.
ousefox Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 2002 for me first tournament I ever watched. Beckham's goal before the tournament was probably the pinnacle of my England supporting times.

THIS world cup 98 was the big one for me, can remember brazil beating Scotland, round my mates house for his birthday party, all his family who were Scottish were there, gutted at the result, since then ive been a big follower of brazil, always like them to do well, purely for the fact they play exciting football
Cruss5 Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 I remember watching 86 world cup on a humid hot day sitting on a bean bag in my bedroom. Not realising the hand of God incident being as big as it was. I can still sense how I felt that day. My memory of a full world cup was 1990 being with my nan on the isle of Wight. She was worried about the violence going on and wouldn't let me out when a phone box got smashed and made the local news.
DB11 Posted 8 June 2014 Posted 8 June 2014 Michael Owen putting England 1-0 up against Brazil in 2002.
