Germany vs Mahrez

Doubt Riyad will start this, but i think he will get some pitch time if/when Algeria are chasing the game and needing a goal.

I think it will be 3-1 to the Germans.

Did Djabou come off a bit injured in the last match?

Seems like Ghilas is their go-to-guy if they want to bring someone on though.

Good luck to Algeria but if Germany find their right gears, I can only see it going one way. They're a much better outfit than Belgium who Algeria defended strongly against. Think Germany will pick them off with more ease.

Massive game for Algeria. I'm sure they will be well up for it and after revenge for what happen in Gijon in 82.

Germany and Algeria have met twice before with Algeria winning both times! lol

and IF they win tonight and France qualify, it will mean that Algeria will play France on the 4th of July, the day before Algerian independence day!

1-1 Algeria to win on penos

There are whispers of a Mahrez start tonight which I think would be great. Djabou is a good player but lacks pace which Mahrez has, and especially when looking at the lack of pace in the full back areas for the Germans, and the high line they play, that has to be targeted.

And there will be changes in the starting 11 of our team. Even the likes of Brahimi, Bentaleb and Slimani might be dropped, with Vahid looking to bring in fresh players.

Yh I wouldn't. It's the most unlikely change of the ones I've mentioned (Djabou dropped is nearly a certainty, Brahimi is looking likely too, Bentaleb is probably 50/50) but if he is dropped (like all the others) the reason behind it is Vahid will feel a fitter and sharper replacement would be more use than the better quality but more tired starters. Only Vahid knows how tired some of our players are after last 3 games. And as I've mentioned before, our strength in depth is decent. If Slimani is dropped, I'd expect Ghilas to start ahead of him (despite the fact he's been brought on as a winger in most games so far) and he really isn't much worse than Slimani. Might not be as good in the air but he's better with the ball at his feet and is probably slightly quicker, which would be important to stretch the German back line. Mahrez isn't much worse (if he's worse at all) than Djabou, so I can definitely see the argument of starting these sort of players who will be 100% ready physically, unlike the starters. I personally would have made the changes for the Russia game. I felt we looked a bit tired in that game and changes would have helped us.

Cant see mahrez getting in ahead of fagouli surely. Unless he plays on the left.

Yh if Mahrez does play it'll be on the left. Feghouli is one player who won't be dropped. That guy is a machine, he can run all day long. One of the hardest working wingers I've seen play and he's technically good too. Wouldn't be surprised to see him at a top club in the Premier League soon because he has all the attributes to succeed.

It would be absolutely fairytale if Algeria won this but sadly I don't think they will. They're a decent side but Germany won't lose this I don't think.

Revenge for 1982?

Personally, there's only few things in international football that are more entertaining than a tournament defeat for Germany.

Hope Riyad comes up with a great performance, I wish Algeria well.

Are the Germans a big rival for Swiss fans? Does it change based on where in Switzerland you're from? Like the German speaking bit, Italian speaking bit, etc?

Was German your first language growing up, Alex?

Yeah, you learn German as your first foreign tongue over here (whereas it's Italian in the western part and French in Ticino).

There's a tendency of boasting in Germany that Swiss (Germans) neither really like nor adhere to. We're a bit more quiet and less outspoken on the whole, I guess.

Although I have to say I've more and more warmed up to the German national football team, mainly due to the constant diminishing of hate figures, such as Kahn, Matthäus, Effenberg or Basler - those were the days of German egos and divas.

Things have changed for the better though and the current crop are much more media-friendly and professional both within the squad as well as to the outside.

And Löw is a very likeable person.

Do you learn the languages simultaneously, Prussian?

If Algeria avoid defeat inside 90 minutes tonight, then they will go above England in the next Fifa rankings....

Will any of the Algerians be fasting? I believe that sunset in Porto Alegre is 35 minutes after kick off, so that could cause some problems. On the plus side, Porto Alegre is one of the coldest places in the tournament.

I heavily doubt it. Stupid if they are

Algeria manager said he's left it up to the players to do what they want but he himself will definitely be abiding by the rules of Ramadan.

Madjid Bougherra has said he will be fasting

Mesut Ozil said he won't. Same with Bacary Sagna.
