You couldn't make it up but what some people would give for a high like that! Everyone will be after some.

Does it also mean there'll be no more prison sentences for burglary if everyone declares the same excuse?

But yes, I know,  of course we live in a better England.

"15 July, 15 July,

burgle away, we'll turn a blind eye."

"We've veered to the Right, Now we'll look to the Left

"Wealth is for plundering, we'll make a virtue of theft"

Law works very much on precedents, will be a valid  defence from now on...especially if you're a footballer. I'll hire a professional footballer to carry out all of my burglaries from now on :(

Isn't every burglar after treasure

This is a very good point. Give Shaun some credit.

He's gone into a court, told the judge he entered someone else's house looking for valuables to take away AND he avoided jail.

If anything, he's significantly better at his new profession than his old.

The reports possibly misleading, because this does not appear to be an example of aggregated burglary, so a custodial sentence was never likely regardless of a reason given by the defence (see Domestic burglary guidelines below);

If he was good at his 'new profession' he wouldn't have got caught.

Got caught but got away without even a warning from the ref. There is clear improvement.

Just stumbled upon an article on former VfL Wolfsburg defender Marcel Schäfer who now plays for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the United Soccer League USL, the second division in the US/Canada.

The manager of said club is none other than former LCFC midfielder Stuart Campbell, now 39. Started out as assistant manager, head coach since autumn 2015:

Am quite surprised with that.

Thought he had a great opportunity with Rangers with a new boss, but decides to go to a club that regularly turns on the pressure on their manager despite limited resources.

Feel he'll do alright there, though.

Edit: thought he was older than 27, so it's a good opportunity to reboot his career again.

Why is ex Cambridge United and Leicester City striker a record-breaker?

The nomadic playing career of this ex Cambridge United and Leicester City forward has seen him emerge as a record-breaker

BYAARON MASON

12:00, 7 AUG 2017

Former Cambridge United striker Trevor Benjamin has emerged as the most travelled English professional footballer ever, according to a study.

Benjamin, who earned United a club record fee of £1.5million following his move to Leicester in 2000, certainly got through a team or two during his career, in fact 29 in total!

And within that, the former Jamaica international is said to have travelled 23,515.07 miles in relocating from one club to another over a period of 17 years.

Aside from United and Leicester, Benjamin’s nomadic playing career took in Crystal Palace (loan), Norwich City (loan), West Bromwich (loan), Gillingham (loan), Rushden & Diamonds (loan), Brighton (loan), Northampton Town, Coventry, Peterborough United, Watford (loan), Swindon Town (loan), Boston United (loan), Walsall (loan), Hereford, Gainsborough, Northwich, Hednesford, Wellingborough, Kidsgrove, Tamworth, Harrogate Town, Woking, Australian outfit Sunshine George Cross, Bedlington, Wroxham (loan), Morpeth and Seaton Delaval.

No other English player, retired or active, comes close to matching that distance with Benjamin’s nearest rival being former Crystal Palace and Everton forward Marcus Bent, who trekked 8,993.04 miles during his 17-year career.

The research, carried out by German removals firm Movinga for their Footballer Relocation Index study , showed that Benjamin, who scored 46 goals for United between 1995 and 2000, came out 20th in the overall list, though.

And Benjamin, who now runs football equipment company Locust, would have had some way to go to compete with the most travelled footballer in the world Lutz Pfannenstiel.

The German goalkeeper may not have been able to match the number of clubs Benjamin played for – a paltry 25 in comparison!

But over the course of two decades he played in 13 countries across six continents, a total journey of 145,622.2 miles!

For the record, Pfannenstiel spent time in his homeland (Bad Kotzting, Wacker Burghausen, ASV Cham), Malaysia (Penang), England (Wimbledon, Nottingham Forest, Bradford Park Avenue, Huddersfield), South Africa (Orlando Pirates), Finland (TPV, Haka), Singapore (Geylang United), New Zealand (Dunedin Technical, Otago United), Norway (Baerum, Flekkeroy, Mangelrud Star), Canada (Calgary Mustangs, Vancouver Whitecaps), Albania (Vllaznia Shkoder), Armenia (Bentonit Ijevan), Brazil (Hermann Aichinger) and Namibia (Ramblers).

There’ll be no authentic Madrid paellas for Leicester City this season. There’ll be no oranges from Seville, port from Porto, Carlsberg from Copenhagen or chocolate from Bruges either.

Both City players and fans got a taste for European football last term and have expressed their desire to return. But, for a season at least, they’ll have to go hungry.

Meanwhile, there are surprising number of former City players who will be embarking on tours around Europe to compete in the Champions League and Europa League.

Here’s a rundown of the one-time City stars who will be making us jealous this campaign…

Champions League group stage

N’Golo Kante – Chelsea: The Frenchman will embark on his first-ever Champions League campaign with Chelsea.

The former Caen man has continued his development into the world’s best defensive midfielders at Stamford Bridge, earning the PFA Player of the Year award before the summer.

Harry Kane – Tottenham: Having scored nine goals in only seven starts against City, Kane is not the most popular man on Filbert Way. Not to mention he only netted twice in his 13 appearances for City.

Kane is set to appear in the Champions League for a second consecutive season. He’s made three appearances so far in the competition and has scored twice.

Jesse Lingard – Manchester United: A member of the United squad that won the Europa League last season, Lingard will play Champions League football for the second season in his career this term.

The 24-year-old already has 17 appearances in European competition. Those figures are perhaps surprising given the lack of promise shown by Lingard in his five appearances on loan at City in 2012.

Champions League play-off round

Andrej Kramaric – Hoffenheim: Unwanted by City, Kramaric was loaned out to Hoffenheim 12 months after arriving at the King Power Stadium. Impressing enough to earn a permanent deal, the Croatian then scored 15 goals and provided eight assists to power Hoffenheim to fourth, the highest finish in their history.

Unfortunately for Kramaric, they have been handed a tough draw in the Champions League play-off round and will face Liverpool over two legs.

Gokhan Inler – Medipol Basaksehir: Inler, now at the Istanbul side, is aiming for a title hat-trick after being crowned a champion in his last two seasons, with City and Besiktas.

Inler has joined the likes of Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Adebayor at Basaksehir, who finished runners-up in Turkey.

They’re now into the Champions League play-off round where they will take on Sevilla.

A seasoned campaigner in Europe having made 59 appearances, Inler has featured for the likes of Udinese, Napoli and FC Zurich on the continent.

The Swiss midfielder made only 10 appearances in all competitions for City before departing for Turkey.

Miguel Vitor – Hapoel Be'er Sheva: Portuguese centre-back Vitor has carved out an impressive career since his one-season loan spell at City.

Sent off on his league debut for City, Vitor found his feet by the end of the 2010-11 campaign and despite interest in a prolonged stay in Leicester, he returned to parent club Benfica.

After two seasons playing second fiddle in Lisbon, Vitor moved to PAOK, enjoying three years in Greece before moving to Israeli champions Hapoel Be’er Sheva last summer.

Surprise winners Be’er Sheva won the title again in 2017, finishing 13 points clear of the chasing pack. Be’er Sheva have come through two qualifying rounds, beating Budapest Honved and Ludogorets Razgrad, and face Slovenian champions Maribor for a place in group stages.

Jonny Hayes – Celtic: It’s been nearly a decade since Hayes’ final City appearance but the winger, still only 30, is in the prime of his career.

Hayes played seven times for City, never tasting victory, as the club was relegated to League One.

A move north of the border followed and after a period at Inverness, Hayes headed to Aberdeen, where he made his name.

The winger improved during five seasons at Pittodrie, culminating in last term’s excellent campaign in which he registered a league-high 19 assists, bagging nine goals too.

Those figures earned him a summer move to champions Celtic and the Champions League. Kazakhstan’s Astana stand between the Bhoys and the group stage.

Europa League group stage

Moreno – Vitoria Guimaraes: Although a City player for 18 months, Moreno’s pitch-time at the club did not last beyond countryman Paulo Sousa’s brief reign.

Defensive midfielder Moreno played six games in his first two months as a City player, but did not get a look in with Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Moreno returned home the moment his contract was cancelled. Now back at Guimaraes, the club he left to join City, 35-year-old Moreno is used increasingly sparingly, but earned a new one-year deal this summer and, as club captain, will lead the club into the Europa League.

Europa League play-off round

Roberto Mancini – Zenit: After Claudio Ranieri’s departure, Mancini was linked with a return to City, where he made five appearances at the end of his playing career. But, he has held out for a top job and a vacancy opened up at Russian giants Zenit, who face Dutch Utrecht for a spot in the group stages.

Marko Futacs – Hajduk Split: The Hungarian made his debut in European competition this year after an early-season injury ruled him out of all of Hajduk Split’s Europa League qualifiers in 2016-17.

After returning to fitness, Futacs fired in 18 goals in 26 appearances to finish top scorer in Croatia and ensure third place for Hajduk.

That finish booked them a place Europa League second qualifying round, where Futacs scored on his debut to help see off Levski Sofia. Hajduk have since beaten Brondby and now face Everton in their bid to reach group stages.

It will be Futacs’ first game in England since the conclusion of his 12-game spell with City.

Astrit Ajdarevic – AEK Athens: Joining the club from Liverpool, Ajdarevic only made five appearances for City before departing on loan to Hereford United.

From there he went home to Sweden, came back to England for a spell with Charlton and played a couple of Champions League qualifiers with Standard Liege in Belgium.

The attacking midfielder now plies his trade in the Greek Superleague with AEK Athens.

After finishing the regular season in fourth, AEK triumphed in the play-offs to qualify for the Champions League third qualifying round.

There, they suffered a 3-0 aggregate defeat to CSKA Moscow and were relegated to a Europa League play-off, where they will play Club Brugge.

Already eliminated

Zsolt Laczko – Budapest Honved: Winger-turned-left-back Lazcko has been around the houses since his 2007-08 loan spell at City, featuring for three Italian clubs, including Sampdoria, and seven Hungarian sides.

He ended up on loan at Budapest Honved for the second half of last season, playing only three times before injury struck, but returned to fitness for the climax to the campaign and was on the bench when Honved beat leaders Videoton to clinch the title.

An extended loan deal was agreed but Laczko couldn’t help his club past the Champions League second qualifying round as they lost to Vitor’s Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

Nils-Eric Johansson – AIK: Released by City after two solid seasons as the club’s first-choice left-back between 2005 and 2007, Johansson returned to his hometown of Stockholm, re-joining AIK.

And Johansson, now 37, has been at AIK since. Now more a centre-back, he captains the club and, in his 11th season, is approaching 350 appearances.

This term’s European adventure saw them navigate two-legged ties against Faroe Islands’ KI and Bosnia’s Zeljeznicar without conceding (Johansson scored against the latter), but they came unstuck against Braga in the Europa League third qualifying round, losing in extra-time.

Joe Dodoo and Martyn Waghorn – Rangers: Dodoo etched his name into the City record books when he netted a hat-trick on his club debut, but the forward was only given a few more opportunities after that display against Bury.

The Ghanaian was afforded more chances at Ibrox, making 25 appearances in his debut season. Only six came as starts, but that was enough for Dodoo, now 22, to grab five goals.

Waghorn, meanwhile, helped the Gers back to the Scottish top flight and then registered seven goals and six assists to take them back into Europe for the first time since 2011-12.

It was an unhappy return though, as they were knocked out in the Europa League first qualifying round by Luxembourg’s fourth-best side, Progres Niederkorn.

Waghorn has since moved back south, joining Ipswich.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher – Bangor: The former City forward was rewarded for an excellent stint as Bangor caretaker boss with a place in the Europa League qualifiers.

The Welsh team won four of their last five games to qualify for the Europa League play-offs, Taylor-Fletcher scoring in the semi-finals as Bangor went on to clinch the Welsh Premier League’s final European spot.

The former Blackpool striker was relegated to player-assistant manager for the new season and for Bangor’s Europa League first qualifying round tie against Denmark’s Lyngby. A 4-0 aggregate defeat then followed.

Bartosz Kapustka – Freiburg: The young winger’s loan at Bundesliga side Freiburg got off to a bad start.

He only watched from the bench as his new club suffered a shock aggregate defeat to Slovenia’s Domzale in the Europa League third qualifying round.
