Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Problem with wood he's like a lot of big, tall strikers, they think because of their height and build they will win everything in the air, and as a result win next to nothing.

To be fair to Wood I really don't think he likes the ball played to his head. Seems much more comfortable when the ball is on the floor. His height really goes against him as our players constantly hoof it up to him. If you remember when he first joined we kept the ball on the ground and he looked like a very accomplished striker, then suddenly something changed and the back 4 kept playing the long ball up to him and he lost form. Really hope we can get the best out of him as I think he has a lot to offer.

All strikers and central defence should be able to head a ball it is part of the game. No excuse for either not using there head.

I totally agree, it's an important part of the game in those positions, Wood could be a real special player if he was good in the air, and sadly I think that's the one area which could hold him back.
Stadt Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Of course Wood doesn't mind heading it, I think the poster meant that he prefers the ball to be played into his feet.

Corners come in at head hight a lot of crosses come in at head hight and most free kicks other than shots come in at head hight. Any striker/defender should be comfortable with that also kicks from keepers. He's a pro and should be able to take the ball however it is delivered. or are you saying we should play a certain way for him. If using his head is a weakness then it should be worked on. If he don't like to use it or is scared to he should pic another sport. Sorry the game is soft enough as it is now without someone saying I don't want to head the ball.
Teeno Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 His performance against us at Hilsborough last season was one of the better individual performance I remember from an opposition player.

He's not saying that though is he? He's never shied away from heading the ball, he's just not that good at it and obviously prefers it into his feet. Just because he's a big man doesn't mean his head is automatically the best option. You're acting like he's soft or that he's come out and said that he doesn't want to head the ball when he's done nothing of the sort.
fox123 Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Sunderland fans don't want him to go. Would be a great addition for us.

I'm not saying Wood is incapable or doesn't like to head the ball, what I'm saying is he would rather have the ball played to his feet because that's his strength much like the way Vardy likes the ball played over the top for him to run on to.
dayday Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Spoke to my Sunderland supporting mate today,he reckons Wickham has come of age and his hold up play since he came back is top draw...also said does not want to lose him but also feels he his wage demands could well see him off loaded. With that in mind I cannot see Pearson rolling out the red carpet, and may well look else where.
Callabinho Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 I want to see what the illusive Chris Woods is like!?!?
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 I said at the start of last season, I just don't see Chris Wood as a particularly good player. Yet again, I thought Harry Kane was utter PANTS.. and then he goes and plays a few in the Spurs first team! Footy is a funny ol game. It's very likely that some of the players you thought might do well in the Prem, don't, whereas some make the step up when you least expect it. I personally expect Jeff Schlupp to really shine, together with Mahrez. Knocky, conversely, I think may not do so well. But we'll see. Not long now.
Deucalion Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 I don't know how helpful this is to this conversation, but Chris Wood just rang my wife. And before anyone starts moaning, if a City player rang your house, you would go on about it too !!

Deucalion Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Context? Chris Wood was room mate with my wife's friend's son while at the West Brom academy. Chris and Ashley Lovell are very good friends and still go on holiday together. Chris also goes to my wife's friend's pub for Sunday dinners. He is also staying with my wife's friend tonight. My wife's friend texted to ask whether we wanted Chris to ring. My wife texted back to say yes, and then when the phone rang, I ran away. Hence my wife took the call.

sylofox Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 I hate to break the news to you mate but he's banging your wife. He can now post. Hey Chris Wood just shagged my wife lol No one can call Deucalion plastic lol
Fox Ulike Posted 7 July 2014 Posted 7 July 2014 I have to admit I don't normally allow myself to be influenced by the Daily Star, but the recent story about Wickham "splashing" £25k on champagne has got me a little bit worried. Think I'd prefer to keep Chris Wood than risk signing Wickham. Mr Wickham: Boozey Chris Wood: Choir boy
