Manwell Pablo Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 When Brazil won the Julie's Rimet (former World Cup trophy) for the third time in Mexico '70 they were allowed to keep the cup and a new one was created (this one). Whoever wins on Sunday has won this cup for a third time, and was just wondering if they would keep it and a new trophy be made! It'd be Germanys 4th anyway
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 How much have you actually seen of Maradona though? A few international games maybe. I'm pretty sure you would not have seen him at all in Argentina so that's nearly half his career. He wasn't at Barca for that long but maybe a few highlights there. So the conclusion is you were a massive Napoli fan in the 80's and somehow caught a lot of their games. I'm sorry Col but I can't take people seriously who say they think Mardona/Pele are the best of all time unless they've watched them play. You genuinely can't have seen much of Maradona, I'm not 100% sure but I doubt that it was physically possible (due to lack of coverage) to be able to see much of him over here. Of course mate. No argument there. I've not seen Maradonna week in week out or even 'live'. Like most id suspect, on TV.. both when playing in Serie A and of course international games. Watching a player broadcast in a live game its not the same though, surely, as going back through vintage clips? I dont reckon so anyway. I've seen far more Messi than Maradonna..SKY.. and I'd still say the latter.
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 I can't believe anybody is even discussing a defensive midfielder's best position with Col considering his past. I hate the argument that you have to win a World Cup to be the greatest ever, say the best player that we've ever seen came from Tajikistan? But he's never going to win the WC because of the dross around him so that automatically means he's not in contention? Bollocks. Whats your point? A. I'm saying that the presence of a DM enables a talented player like Messi to do damage. He gets a free rein. B. Mascherano has stated he wants to move up for Barce next season. Where's your gripe? Ah. You're gripe is with ME, not the points raised. Get over it.

Let's be honest, Pele is most famous for an assist for Carlos Alberto, a save by Banks, a missed shot from the halfway line and an advert
Dan Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 Whilst Germany against Brazil changed my opinion, I still thought they were generally better to watch in 2010 than they have been this time around. Portugal - Similar to Brazil in some ways. A very effective display either way but I think Portugal's ineptitude added to the scoreline. They were awful. Ghana - Didn't see it but read from a few places that it was a pretty even, and open game. USA - Played in second gear but got the win. Algeria - Neuer got them out of jail a few times and they could well have lost that game. France - Very weird game. I didn't feel like either side was nearly at their best. Got the win. Brazil - Sensational attacking display fully capitalising on Brazil's weak mentality and inconsistent defence. They're obviously a quality side so to say they 'aren't that good' is wide of the mark, but Spain of 2010 would beat them IMO.

I was poking fun at your former obsession with JET the striker.
Stuliasz Posted 12 July 2014 Posted 12 July 2014 Does this kick off at 8pm or 9pm? The BBC website says 8 at the top and 9 further down http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28181689

Raj Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 it'll be a travisty if the Argies win. Germany have been the best team overall hence get your money on the Argies
LeicesterBran Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I'm really looking forward to this and want Argentina to win 2-1 tonight but, I reckon Germany will win this.
Jimothy Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Love to see ITV's ratings for this evening If there's say 12-15 million watching, they'll be lucky to get 500k to 1 million.
lgfualol Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 **** sake, thought kick off was at 9pm. My girlfriend was like "I'm watching the game" and I told her it was in 40 minutes, then she was like "what are you talking about". Embarrassing. I missed the exciting build up.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 am tempted to turn over the itv, lawro is doing my head in

lgfualol Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 ****ing hell BBC, I went nuts at that goal and then the goal thing came up top left. I watched half an hour in itv until I realised it was on bbc1 That must have been awful.
LeicesterBran Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Andre Schlurre is coming on for Cristoph Kramer.
Finnegan Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I'm watching itv, predominantly because my BBC signal is woeful.
Dan Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Pretty even game. Not been bad. Officiating so far has been surprisingly good as well with some close calls all being spot on. Off out for the second half. Had a mare. Didn't even realise it kicked off at 8 rather than 9.
