Guest Col city fan Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 So every player that has won the World Cup is better than Messi Says who? What you on about now?
deejdeej Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Messi gets so much unfair criticism. Wasn't at his best tonight but people expect 10/10 performances every game, he drifts by players as if they aren't there. People go on like Maradona never had a poor game.
DennisNedry Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Best team won. Argentina set out to kill the game and hit on the counter. I'm always happy to see that anti-football approach fail.
Fox92 Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Pleased for Germany. They have everything right in football. From schools to their domestic leagues. I hope our FA use them as a model. England won't win anything until the FA is re-shaped, and the Premier League is reevaluated (preferably demolished).

I thought exactly the same thing. Pleased for Germany. They have everything right in football. From schools to their domestic leagues. I hope our FA use them as a model. Stadt Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Says who? What you on about now? That's what Shearer seems to be implying, it's a poor argument that not winning the WC means you're not one of the greatest ever.
AKCJ Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I swear everyone just wants to knock Messi down. He dragged his side to the final of the World Cup with only really Mascherano playing well with him. He's had an excellent tournament and, while I think it should have gone to Rodriguez, he deserves to have that achievement recognised.
Leicesterpool Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I said I wouldn't watch the final but I simply couldn't resist, I'm pleased Germany have won not keen on the Argentinians plus I pleased finally a european team as won the world cup in south america. Germany certainly play football the proper way.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Messi... Was s**t Messi was s**t, he was worse than Jason Lee Not s**t but definitely didn't deserve the award. Much more effective players this tournament

Jimothy Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I swear everyone just wants to knock Messi down. He dragged his side to the final of the World Cup with only really Mascherano playing well with him. He's had an excellent tournament and, while I think it should have gone to Rodriguez, he deserves to have that achievement recognised. Don't think anyone is knocking him down, I'm certainly not. I'm laughing at FIFA. I know he's a great player, he's not been up to his top standard this World Cup, but he certainly been better than many other players, probably top 10 or 15, but no where near the best. So therefore when there are 10 or so players who performed at a higher standard, him being voted the best is going to cause an outcry.
kingfox Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Only thing I have to say on that final is. What a player Bastian Schweinsteiger is, love players who make the game look so simple
Grandad. Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 How can people say Messi was shit in that game? Everything apart from the Higuain chance one on one, he was involved in all of their chances. So fickle. Glad Germany won, won me some big money. Schweinstiger was absolutely immense, Lahm is a class act, the work rate from the midfield to strikers was something else and Gotze's goal was superb. The best team won the World Cup, by a country mile.
Mark_w Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Best team won. Argentina set out to kill the game and hit on the counter. I'm always happy to see that anti-football approach fail. They attempted to play winning football, and it would have worked if they'd taken any of a few really good chances. There's no such thing as 'anti-football'.
Jace Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Messi arguably the best in the World right now but he has missed a huge opportunity to put himself up there with the greatest of all time
Grandad. Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Messi arguably the best in the World right now but he has missed a huge opportunity to put himself up there with the greatest of all time He is one of the greatest of all time, don't think anything different or let anyone else tell you different.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 at least we don't have to worry about Germany next world cup
Dan Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Few points on tonight then, I'll start with Messi. He entered this game as one of the greatest players of all time. He has finished this game as one of the greatest players of all time. He entered this game needing a very big display to win the golden ball. He finished this game with the golden ball despite a very mediocre display. Not as bad as people are making him out to be, but that's what you get when the expectations are hyped up by every pundit. It's a shame he's won the golden ball in my opinion as not only has it stopped someone more deserving of it winning it (I could name about ten players straight away) but to some people it will actually add strength to their argument that he wasn't worthy of winning all of those Ballon D'ors. There is absolutely no way he's won that on merit. The game itself - typical cup final. Largely a dour game. First half was promising but the second half was boring and it became clear that one goal was going to do it. Defences well on top like they largely have been in the knockout phases (ignoring Brazil). A typical German display. Unspectacular, but effective, and they've won the ultimate one. Fair play to them. It's been coming for a while and it's about time they filled that promise. A good example of what having a progressive league (an actual progressive one, not one where the fees are rising but quality isn't) and quality youth systems up and down the country can lead to.
bovril Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 I wanted Argentina to win but overall I'm pleased for the Germans and in particular the coach. They have deserved it not only on the strength of their performances in this tournament, but the football they have played over the last 8 years. The culmination being that awesome destruction of Brazil.
foxfanazer Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Overall the Germans deserved it but what a drab final that was! How James Rodriguez or Muller didn't win player of the tournament I'll never know!
Webbo Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Even though I wanted Germany to lose I didn't have a bad night last night here in Tenerife. After they won there were fireworks and cars papping their horns, it gave me a taste of what it'd be like if ever we won something. I was drinking with a couple of them afterwards too and they weren't bad lads.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 So then Col, everyone else's predictions were stupid where they? Enjoy your winnings....oh wait.
Haydos Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 So then Col, everyone else's predictions were stupid where they? Enjoy your winnings....oh wait. What were his predictions? I had Argentina from the start. Now I think Germany. All depends if Gemany score first. Then it should be a great game. Seems fine to me...
purpleronnie Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 I agree i thought he was shit! Messi was involved in 6 of Argentina's 8 goals. He also created the most chances, completed the most dribbles and finished 3rd in the scoring charts whilst picking up 4 man of the match awards, more than anyone else. That apparantly means he was shit.
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Overall the Germans deserved it but what a drab final that was! How James Rodriguez or Muller didn't win player of the tournament I'll never know! It's called politics mate. That's all
