Guest Col city fan Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 So then Col, everyone else's predictions were stupid where they? Enjoy your winnings....oh wait. You seem to have a big chip on that ol shoulder there MP? Of course I'll enjoy my winnings. Lumped on the Germans later in the Tournament as I suspect most did.
foxfanazer Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 It's called politics mate. That's all It's a shame really though because as somebody else said, the anti Messi brigade will use it as a negative against him when he really wasn't that bad. Not even in the top 8 best players at the world cup for me
Grandad. Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 People I have seen (mainly on Twitter) have been telling me that Neymar has had a better World Cup than Messi.

C-man Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Delighted for Germany. Love the country, love the people and love the way they do football over there. Their current side is very, very likeable too. Certainly in comparison to their lot between 1982 and 2002. Fully deserved the win - must have been scenes throughout Germany yesterday.
Guest MattP Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Best side won the tournament. Appalling decision to give Messi the golden ball . Didn't do a thing since the Di Maria set up. He looks tired and lethargic. No surprise either given he is being flogged around at every opportunity by club and country when he should be recuperating.
Samilktray Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Nothing worse than seeing so many Englishman actually cheering on the Germans last night. Made me wanna throw up in my Cornflakes.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Nothing worse than seeing so many Englishman actually cheering on the Germans last night. Made me wanna throw up in my Cornflakes. I think since the Nazi party lost power, they've become a more likeable nation and have stopped trying to invade us. Argentina still poke at us for the Falklands though, you can't have them, and you can't have the World Cup.
James. Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Did no one else think that the German fans in the stadium last night looked a bit awkward when celebrating the win? Like a bunch of accountants at an office party or something? If Argentina had won I think it would have been a much rawer, passionate and emotional celebration... the Germans just seemed slightly cold and not entirely at ease with being happy.
Amin Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 People I have seen (mainly on Twitter) have been telling me that Neymar has had a better World Cup than Messi. I don't see why that's such an outrageous claim. Up until Neymar went out injured, both were involved in 6 goals, with 4 goals scored. Messi was more important for Argentina than Neymar was for Brazil but I think both had similar tournaments up until that point.

It was the most middle class fanbase I think I have ever seen. They made golf fans look like nutters.

I thought Messi was brilliant in this World Cup, I don't think Neymar was brilliant. I think Neymar had the weight of his nation on his shoulders, unfairly may I add.
Fox92 Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Nothing worse than seeing so many Englishman actually cheering on the Germans last night. Made me wanna throw up in my Cornflakes. I'd rather cheer on Germany ahead of Argentina. Makes me laugh how people have this attitude towards Germany. It's over. We're the only ones that seem to bring everything up. They've been far better than us since '66.

Obviously the golden ball goes to the most marketable and popular player during the tournament... not the best, Rodriguez was the best. Messi had a good tournament no doubt but he wasn't the best.Mascherano was arguably a more important player for Argentina this tournament...

Messi had a good tournament no doubt but he wasn't the best Diego Forlan was not marketable in 2010 and Zidane had just headbutted someone in his final ever game, hardly marketable either.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Diego Forlan was not marketable in 2010 and Zidane had just headbutted someone in his final ever game, hardly marketable either. Well I can only argue neither player deserved the golden ball, Zidane certainly got it based on popularity, I would have given it to Cannavaro...But like must of these awards defenders and defensive players always get overlooked... if you aren't scoring and grabbing assists then you aren't considered. Messi was good during the group stage, shown moments of brilliance at the right time, what you would expect from a player like him. During the knockout phase, especially the semis and final he was doing nothing other than giving the ball away and missing chances. Rodriguez or Mascherano would have been more deserving winners...
Jon the Hat Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 It was the most middle class fanbase I think I have ever seen. They made golf fans look like nutters. Haha. Who would have thought the cost of flights half way across the world would filter out the lower class fan!

We're the only ones that seem to bring everything up. They've been far better than us since '66. It's still a massive rivalry for us though, I don't even think of the war to be honest. I Wouldn't support Forest against anyone so I won't be supporting Germany.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Germany are the lesser of two evils for me with regards to "rivalry" - I'm still not over Simeone buying that red in '98. If you gave me a choice between beating Germany or the Argies it'd be the latter all the time.
Jon the Hat Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Clearly I would want us to beat either team in competition, but it feels to me like we have lost to cheating against Argentina, and to the normal run of games against Germany, hence I would always rather see Argentina lose. Add to that the Falklands crap which they wont let lie, and you have a clear preference for Germany. Glad they won!
Super_horns Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 Goal was worthy of winning any final. Although Argentina had their chances always felt Germany looked dangerous and most likely to score. Most of their bench would get into a lot of International and club sides which shows the depth those Germans have. Deserved winners on the night and overall.
Stadt Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 I reckon a Germany B team would easily reach the quarters
C-man Posted 14 July 2014 Posted 14 July 2014 I reckon a Getmany B team would easily reach the quarters Using players that didn't play a minute in the WC... Ter Stegen Grosskreutz - Knoche - Ginter - Schmelzer Bender - Bender Goretska- Gundogan - Reus Volland Probably too weak at the back to get to the Quarters but I'd fancy them to get out of the group.

To be fair, if you were to include almost unused substitutes in there you could chuck in Draxler for Goretska, Weidenfeller for Ter Stegen (at this stage of his career, probably?) and maybe Podolski for Volland. Don't think quarters would be beyond that side.
