Vacamion Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I was hoping for one of the commentators to use the phrase 'Exclusion Zone' when the ref sprayed the foam in front of the Argentina wall. An opportunity missed...
foxes_rule1978 Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Neither Messi or Ronaldo are as good as Zidane let alone Maradona. Why Messi decided to shoot from that free kick it have no idea...
MooseBreath Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Deserved winners. Beautiful finish to win it. Greater than the sum of their parts like all the best teams. Shows what you can do with the right mindset and tactics developed by the right manager. FA take note. As an aside, I'd have Lee Marshall over Lionel Messi tonight.
Jon the Hat Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Time to send a few more troops to the Falklands, those Argies look unhappy!!
MC Prussian Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Apart from the opening few minutes, this turned out to be a real bore-fest. I'm glad Germany scored in extra time, because I wouldn't have been able to bear a penalty shootout. Argentina had little to offer and only themselves to blame. Higuain with the miss that - in hindsight - highly likely cost them the lead and the title. It just shows how important team effort is and when you give all the creative responsibility to only one player (Messi), your game stands and falls with him. The only downside now is that my neighbors who are Germany fans and my German workmate will be unbearable for a while now and constantly rub it in. Still... well done, Deutschland! Best team of the tournament.
Kitchandro Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Argentina will rue their missed chances, they should have won that. Germany had 2 decent ones and hit the target with both. Typical over-egging from the pundits, Shearer making out that goal was as good as Rodriguez's, It's a sure bet that if he'd scored that in the group stages he wouldn't be saying that. Romero actually dived out the way of it for one thing. Messi was hugely disappointing. Not sure what's wrong with him, but he's lacked effort in the knockout rounds, and has been mostly poor. With no great team and a real lack of truly memorable drama in the knockout stages, it really needed Messi to make this his world cup, and he let himself down. After possibly the best group stage ever (which was tainted by England's desperate attempt to progress) it's all been very anti-climactic since, bar the unbelievable Germany v Brazil semi which, along with Holland thrashing Spain maybe, has been the only classic match that we'll talk about for many years. On the other hand, the best team did win, although they weren't consistently amazing.
morris1234 Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Some of the German WAGS....sigh....wish I was better at football as a youngster!
Fox in the North Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 As if messi is the player of the tournament!
Corky Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 How desperate to meet Messi are the corporates and sponsors ?
Haydos Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Messi player of the tournament? What? Have I got that wrong?
RonnieTodger Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 As much as I would've liked to see Messi win it, I couldn't bare to watch that **** Mascherano do the same.
fox766 Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Messi player of the tournament? What? Have I got that wrong? I agree i thought he was shit!
Haydos Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 That's ridiculous. Fifa unsurprisingly continues with its farce.
Finnegan Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I agree i thought he was shit! He clearly wasn't shit. People are prone to stupid hyperbole whenever Messi doesn't score a hattrick in every game. But he also wasn't the best player in the tournament.
Corky Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 I agree i thought he was shit! No he wasn't, moments of brilliance but at other times he struggled. There were better players out there, but Messi wasn't shit.
Jimothy Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Messi, Player of the tournament!! What a joke. Rodriguez, Hummels, Muller, Neuer (if keepers can win it), Mascherano, Vlaar, that dude in midfield for Holland who's name I can never spell I could go on, all had better tournaments.
fox766 Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 He clearly wasn't shit. People are prone to stupid hyperbole whenever Messi doesn't score a hattrick in every game. He is brilliant for Barca just not that good for Argentina thats all and been made to look ordinary But he also wasn't the best player in the tournament.
Stadt Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 Schürrle was better than Messi and he didn't even start most games if any.

Posted that slighty wrong my answer is in the middle part of that post
MooseBreath Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 If you'd never heard of Messi before the semi finals, you still wouldn't have heard of him. Unbelievable but totally believable decision from fifa.
Stadt Posted 13 July 2014 Posted 13 July 2014 So every player that has won the World Cup is better than Messi
