Deeney saga back on

Shane Long going Saints, meaning Bruce might go for Deeney.

He was asked yesterday if the Deeney -> Hull rumours were true and he said "No, I don't know where that's come from".

I'm sorry but Lee Hughes killed someone, to compare him to Deeny isn't a fair comparison at all. Sensless post

Whilst it's a stupid debate anyway, Lee Hughes killed someone through diminished responsibility, Wes Morgan has been done for drink driving the only difference between the two was Hughes was unlucky enough to hit someone. I'm not a fan of judging someone purely on the outcomes of their offence, if your stupid enough to drink drive your a bit of a nob and the outcome of your exploits is all down to luck.

Deeney set out to hurt someone and could quite of easily of killed his victim.

Some people will take the view that they've done their time some will still view the offence is unforgivable I don't see how you can be criticized for holding an opinion on the matter either way.

As for Deeney I can't wait to see how much money we're wasting on him, As I've said I'd of preferred the wages and fee's paid for both be used on one player Earning around the same wage as Cambiasso who might actually improve our squad.

Good... Big nose ****!! Would rather spend £10m on Deeney than £12m on long.

I'd like to know if they actually provoked him first.

Allegedly they made uncomplimentary remarks about his unfortunate facial features , saying he looked like Lionel Richie after a steam roller had gone over his head. Some people just cant take a joke.

It probably has been mentioned but he wasn't in tonights squad.

Probably means nothing

But it could also mean that he is due to move to a new club, hopefully City.

If this is so, then Watford wouldn't want to risk him getting injured & the buying club would probably ask for him not to be cup-tied?

This is my hope.

First time poster but I felt the need to share my own experiences with Deeney. My son spent two years in the Watford Academy and, without exception, every time he was in the presence of the boys, he would find the time to stop and chat, often asking them questions about their matches and training. He genuinely seemed to enjoy talking to them and spending time with them.

Very often, we would see him at the London Colney training ground and he would be the friendliest Watford player to the boys and parents by a country mile. Most of the other players would barely acknowledge the boys, the exceptions being Deeney, Almunia and Zola who was manager at the time. I once remarked what a good bloke he seemed and it was only then that I heard about his past. I couldn't have been more surprised.

This is just my own impression and it doesn't excuse his past but maybe it offers a bit of balance to those who assume he is all bad.

Hope no one from operation Yew Tree is reading this. :nigel:

To be fair, I couldn't have been more ready to hate the guy, especially after that goal, but was impressed with what he said post match and seemed to empathise with Knocky and our team etc

I personally think 10 million is too much for him but in the same way Ulloa was overpriced, if spending more now helps us remain in the Prem, then will be pennies in grand scheme of things!

Also, people comparing these transfer prices with better players, don't necessarily consider the whole package deal, which for the top players, includes a hefty wage too which all adds up.

10 million and a sub 30k wage over so many years isn't that bad business...... well if he continues to score goals in the Prem of course!   Here's hoping!

Get it done Nige!

I'm guessing he would go to Hull over us if we both meet Watford's asking price......   It's a dump but they do seem to have assembled a solid enough Prem team and so perhaps a more attractive proposition

I'm sure we have alternatives and i do think we still need a top striker so I hope they don't just settle for what we have!

Deeney is taking too much hate here for his criminal actions in the past.

Looking at it for his point of view upon his release, after being handed a fresh Watford deal, he would have had two choices; 1) not learn from his mistake and offend again, which in doing so sees him piss his career away or 2) come out and focus on his football career and improve as a player. He has without question done the later and surely that deserves immense credit?

If he does come I'll be pleased because he is a proven goal scorer, has a good work rate and every time I have seen him play he has been a big handful for defences. Do hope we get him.

Europa League is the attraction with Hull, nothing else.

Agreed this won't be a good signing for 10 million. Nigel has lost the plot.

Lukaku was 28M and scored 15 goals last season so if we signed Deeney and he scored 10 it would be a bargain

Only concern with this deal (along with what we're paying) is he seems to have a history of struggling to acclimatise quickly to a division once he's made the step up, judging from his goal scoring stats.

Mostly cos most of our managers have played him on the wing (!), I believe it was Dyche who stuck him up front, which then started to provide goals for us.

Also, Deeney was rested tonight, but I wouldn't read too much into it as we made 9 changes from our game against Bolton.

I don't see them as a solid enough Prem Team, far from it in fact. They survived with 37 points simply because there were poorer teams than them in the league. I expect us to exceed 40 points this season.

There FA Cup, yes they did well getting to the final, however they met one premier league club on their way to the Final, Sunderland, so they deffo got the luck of the draw.

I think they will struggle big time this season and go down.

I can see this being a burden on their season more than anything. They haven't got depth in squad to be playing thursday then sunday.

This was at Walsall, too...
