The Guvnor Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 The way we seem to be bidding for players by starting low and gradually increasing the bids may be fine when there are no other interested parties ie Ulloa. I believe we probably don't want Slimani and Deeney and would settle for either, but surely there is more chance of securing one of them by offering our highest bid initially if we don't get them so be it look elsewhere. This approach is like waiting for sale items to be reduced even further then returning the next day to find some other fecker has bought them.

jayfox26 Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 Sod it, just bid £20m for Slimani and £20m for Deeney and offer Cambiasso a £20m signing on fee and put them all on £100k a week. After reading all the threads in here, everyone was moaning we paid too much for Ulloa and now all of a sudden people are saying we should pay silly money for players and put them on silly wages. I get that people are worries that we haven't got a big enough/strong enough squad but we can't just do a Sven and buy anyone for stupid prices on stupid wages. Nige spent a year cleaning up Sven's mess, I really doubt he will want the club in a similar position!

The danger in doing that though is that you'd get a reputation and always end up paying through the nose. I think there's more benefit in playing a longer game, especially as Pearson will have identified two or three similar types of players as targets to fit into and improve the way he wants his team to play - hence the link with Salami. The panic setting in here is because we're seeing other teams thrash money about like its going out of fashion, but it doesn't mean they're necessarily improving their squad over ours. £12 million is Shane Long's value apparently and Fabrio Borini was set to go for £14 million!!! - yet neither of these guys are someone to hang your hat on for Premiership survival - I dare day Vardy may end up scoring more this season than these two! We also have guys that have a winning mentality at the moment - that's something that can't be bought but is as every bit as vital.
