Rob1742 Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Everything has a value, but if something is valued too high you don't buy. Would you buy a house for £200k, if an identical one was sold for £150k the day before, just because someone had put a stupid price on it? I wonder what the Fulham fans thought of McCormacks fee on Saturday when he got hauled off in the 54th minute. It appears we have a few targets at least in Slimani and Deeney and we have tried to get the best deal for the club. Comfortable with how we are operating. Not forcing anything and trying to find a calculated solution.
whitlock Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 We made a few important signings this year.. namely James, Drinkwater, Kasper and Wes - signing new deals.
weller54 Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 [asked name=Carlos88LCFC" post="3097672" timestamp="1408003975] With David Luiz going for 50 mill surely they won't accept 10 mill for Deeney... Your logicp is flawed! Man Utd haven't really set the transfer market on fire yet, they will do. We are not signing 10 first team players like we used to. We have a system, we have players that know the system and with 1 or 2 additions its not like the whole foundation of the team is going to crumble. Just because we are not throwing cash at players (Liverpool - Carrol) panic buy scenario, doesn't mean we are doing things wrong. Be patient, we have a good squad as it is now and with 2-3 more players added, they will settle in just fine. Don't think my logic is flawed when comparing fees paid/being asked for similar championship strikers, in this case Mccormack and Deeney... The fee paid by Fulham for Mccormack does set a benchmark.. And 10m for Ulloa is another!... Our bids of 6.5/7/7.5m for Deeney are, as I stated a total waste of time, especially if we really really wanted him!!
surrifox Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Not bothered about any other clubs in the same position to be honest... Look at the Deeney fiasco, this has been going on for weeks.. If we had bid want they wanted 6weeks ago he'd be here now.. With Mccormack going for 11/12m, clearly Watford were not going to accept 6.5m for Deeney!!.. Wasted time and now the delay has put other premier league clubs in the frame who WILL pay the money... Deeney will go somewhere else for close to Mccormack 's fee!! do you really believe its that simple though? There is nothing that I 've read that indicates what Watford want for Deeney or what we were offering beyond conjecture .Would you advocate that whatever fanciful fee is quoted by a selling club should be paid? There is nothing even now that indicates he is the primary target as the slimani situation refuses to go away. You cannot even be certain that 6 weeks ago Deeney was a serious target as a lot of names have come and gone since then. I know all this fretting and speculation is part of being a football fan but I've seen nothing to convince me that city's team are presiding over a "disaster". (well I certainly hope not anyway)
Bettsj2 Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Bid £10m first and you'll end up paying £14m. Never ever start high when negotiating.
StanSP Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Latest is that Watford are holding out for more offers. No idea if they'll accept or reject but they have got our offer (as has been said). Probably holding out for much more money from us or other clubs but I have no idea if Hull (or any other club) has made an official offer. And if so, I don't know if it matches what we've bid or better. Given that Hull are offering £14m for Welbeck (apparently), looks like they're happy to spend a fair whack on a striker. Basically, Watford are stalling and want more £££. Don't blame them!
shade Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Bid £10m first and you'll end up paying £14m. Never ever start high when negotiating. and in other life tips, never ever close your eyes and cross a busy road.

Carlos88LCFC Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Bid £10m first and you'll end up paying £14m. Never ever start high when negotiating. Exactly how I play Football Manager! Latest is that Watford are holding out for more offers. No idea if they'll accept or reject but they have got our offer (as has been said). Probably holding out for much more money from us or other clubs but I have no idea if Hull (or any other club) has made an official offer. Basically, Watford are stalling and want more £££. Don't blame them! 14m for Welbeck! Jeeeeesus! He's unproven at all levels and personally think United kept him too long! When Roy put him in the England team I was shocked to say the least... Really don't rate him at all! Senior career* Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 2008– Manchester United 90 (20) 2010 → Preston North End (loan) 8 (2) 2010–2011 → Sunderland (loan) 26 (6) Deeney must be getting frustrated with this surely? One of the big problems is QPR in my eyes... If Remy goes I'm sure they will come in for him.
StanSP Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 As far as I know, Deeney wants to leave simply because it's a chance to play in the Premier League, BUT if it happens that a deal can't be agreed throughout the whole transfer window, he does like it at Watford and is perfectly happy to continue there (I agree with the sentiments that he's a very humble guy as said earlier in this thread; he's eternally thankful for Watford for giving him the chance to get back in to the game after his offence and time behind bars).
WhispyWizard Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 He saw the signing of Lloyd Dyer and thought "F@ck this, im outta here!"
Thracian Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 You base this on what exactly? We have to realise we are not the dream move of the class of players we are trying to sign. We are also offering sensible wages by the sounds of it, not whatever it takes to get the players to sign quickly. Of course players will take their time to consider their options. I do deals every working day of my life. And agreeing a price is the simplest thing in business. But there's little sense in discussing the price of anything if the item isn't for sale or if the person doesn't want to join you. If they do you surely find out on what terms. Where's the complication?
m4DD0gg Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 What can hull offer welbeck that we cant other than a shite season in the Europa where they will then struggle in the prem due to the amount of games being played in the europa league, where they will get to the knock out stage and get beaten by some shite team that has dropped our the champions league.
Burmesefox Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Bid £10m first and you'll end up paying £14m. Never ever start high when negotiating. shit the bed - never thought of that before.....................

Out Foxed Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Bid £10m first and you'll end up paying £14m. Never ever start high when negotiating. thanks for the advice, Warren Buffett
Thracian Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 Bid £10m first and you'll end up paying £14m. Never ever start high when negotiating. So many brilliant buys have been lost with that philosophy.
Spiritwalker Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 I think if we'd offered £10m 2 weeks ago it would have been accepted. Now we may find £10m might not be enough.
weller54 Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 I think if we'd offered £10m 2 weeks ago it would have been accepted. Now we may find £10m might not be enough. ....exactly!!!!
The Doctor Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 I think if we'd offered £10m 2 weeks ago it would have been accepted. Now we may find £10m might not be enough. So we should have rushed in and paid far more than he's worth? Surely its better we try to get the best deal for the club rather than splurge on anything that moves?
kingfox Posted 14 August 2014 Posted 14 August 2014 We will end up getting Castaignos, the player everyone wanted in the first place.

Surely its better we try to get the best deal for the club rather than splurge on anything that moves? Exactly. I think the big part of the plan is to get him to hand in a transfer request as well. Same with Ulloa.. That's why the bids were spread out
