Chelsea 2-0 Leicester - Post Match Discussion

We took the game to them first half and they were clearly rattled. Obviously they had a massive bollocking at half time because they came out and were very good.

If we're gonna do well this season we need to take our chances because we're not gonna get as many as last season or what we've become used to. Nugent should've scored but he's not to blame for the defeat as I've seen some suggest, also not forgetting that it was a decent save from Courtois.

Chelsea know full well that they've been in a game today. The back four as a unit were generally fine and looked comfortable for an hour. Our two central midfielders were solid in the centre again but unfortunately seemed to run out of steam midway through the second half and we then started to get a bit over ran. Mahrez was always a threat but was wasteful especially with his corners. Schlupp utilised his pace well and looked lively but nothing really came from him.

Very impressed with Ulloa in the first half, a good touch, slick on the ball and knocks it off well.

Let's not forget no-one gave us a chance today and we more than matched Chelsea for 60 minutes. We will not come up against quality like this every week. There's plenty of positives to take from today and if we carry on like this we will be fine.

Last but not least, Kasper was brilliant today. Some great reflex saves.

Onwards and upwards.

You cannot include penalties.

No keeper in world football should save a one on one. Whether it is courtois or logan. Nuge has a reputation of missing good chances, he did this season, he did last season.

How can so many people be wrong when saying he isn't good enough?

Vardy offers pace, ulloa offers presence.....Nuge offers missed chances, always has done always will do.

Bit ironic that you're criticizing Nuge for a lack of accuracy.

Were you at the game today? I like the sound of what you saw if so. Pearson said Hammond going off had a really negative effect, not entirely sure what moment he went off in the second half but it couldn't have been too far away, time-wise, from the Nugent miss / Courtois save. Possibly the two incidents combined was the beginning of the end for us. Still, to match Chelsea in every way for an hour is an accomplishment that the very best teams struggle to do. We should be proud.

Think nugent should be dropped, sold or shot at dawn, had a few quid on us to win 1-0 with him as the scorer, 250/1

Bloke cost me a nice little earner! If he had scored that golden chance the game would have been different

As someone said earlier no one should miss a one on one! Especially against one of the best keepers in the world!

(All said tongue in cheek) except for the bet part

Yes I was at the game. You're right we should be proud of how we performed and like Pearson said, when Hammond went off that's when we started to lose any control we had in the game.

I like Nugent but chances like that at 0-0 away from home against teams like Chelsea have to be put away. That miss was criminal really. Mahrez's reaction says it all and Nigel made a clear point of mentioning that you must finish your chances. Those 1on1's are Vardy's bread and butter .

Hammond leaving was 11 mins after we went one down, 5 mins before we conceded the second and 16 mins after nuges miss

Cripes, you're doing well at making yourself a laughing stock

Best forwards in the world miss one on ones all the time, Nugent should have bagged today, didn't. End.

No need to slate his contribution over past seasons for no reason whatsoever other than an opinion which is proved wrong by looking at goals scored column since he arrived

Ulloa offer presence? So would a tree trunk & on /today's/ showing it would have been tough to tell the difference.

We need Vardy back, we need Drinkwater incredible pass complete ion in opposition half and we need hardworking forwards who compliment each other like Vardy & Nugent last season.

Nugent has been City's top scorer for the last two seasons. We've seen he can finish, and can fluff em..like all strikers.

The number of missed chances this season by any of our strikers, will IMO be directly correlated to the number of chances we are making as a team. Did you see the stats for today's game at all? Despite our competing with Chelsea in many ways, the amount of shots we had was considerably fewer to them. The problem with a side not making many goal scoring opportunities is that, when they do come along, strikers tend to often snatch at them. It's a psychological thing.. This 'shit, I have a chance here, I must score' often results in you not scoring. In a free-flowing side ( like we were last season), where you know if you miss this one, another one will come along, the pressure is off, you calm down, and you often take the chance.

Added to that, Courtois made a good save.

You watch.. If we are a side who makes plenty of chances, Nugent will take more than he misses.

That's how I see it.

I've had a bit of a shocker there then lol Maybe Chelsea wouldn't have scored another if Hammond hadn't gone off, or maybe we might have pinched an equaliser, who knows. Hammond and Konchesky have been the surprise players in the opening two games for me.

My biggest worry was coming out of this very tough start with a lack of belief and spirit in the team should we come out with little points and be around the bottom. However I now see that if we can keep up the fantastic form we've brought from last season we'll come out with our heads high and possibly even points where we wouldn't have expected them. Onwards and upwards :)

The turning point wasn't Chelsea going1-0 up. We were right in that game until Hammond went off. You can't expect anything other than defeat once you've got GTF playing in a midfield 2 at Stamford Bridge.

Sorry I should add it was an absolutely outstanding performance up until Hammond's injury; the game was a write off after that.

Nugent shouldn't be missing 1 on 1st but it happens to the best. We played really well for the majority of the match. I thought mahrez had 2 decent chances to shoot but tried to beat 1 man too many instead, giving up possession.

The first two games of the season have shown we ain't just here to make up the numbers. More of the same against arsenal please.

Brilliantly summed up. I think Wes and Liam deserve some credit to for making two 'world class' strikers look like lumps.

Yeah, that's a fair point. Morgan proving he's more than capable in this league (as some had doubts) and Liam Moore is going to have a big future ahead of him if he carries on like this.

Proud of the lads today, particularly first half. We took the game to them and I don't think they expected it. Morgan and Moore were solid yet again, King and Hammond also. Still gutted Nugent didn't score, I just wish he had someone at the side of him to just square it to.

I'm not down after that at all. I doubt many sides will go there and cause Chelsea a few problems like we did in parts of the game.

First goal was scrappy, couldn't really see it from our end but it looked as if it hit Morgan and bobble up. Second goal was good, but it looked as if Albrighton got turned inside out.

From Sky Sports News

Matt Le Tissier on Chelsea v Leicester

I was really impressed with Leicester, in the first half especially. They set up really well, they countered well and quick and when they went forward, they threw numbers at Chelsea. I tipped them to struggle and perhaps get relegated, but I’ve watched them in the first two games and I’d be very surprised if that team went down.

Schlupp's really stepped up massively for me. I'm still not completely dead set on him and Konch being our LB, but both of them have been solid. Still think we should get another, but that might just be to keep Schlupp in attack.

He needs to improve his passing in the flow of play though. Seen him put it behind his man a bit too frequently. Can't have that on a counter.
