MHC Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Came across this on the Shrewsbury Town forum, written by LCFCgrewks, why is that name familiar? Anyway it's quite embarrasing, full of excuses. "After a deserved win tonight i am sure you lads will be on cloud nine. It was fully deserved, albeit against the weakest leicester side we have fielded in the past decade (at least). Your lads showed the type of dedication and hard work that we have showed over the last 12-18 months to get where we are today. A premier league side, dominating Chelsea on their home patch for 60 minutes, and taking a point off the ever reliable everton. There was only 2 surprises that i had tonight. 1- The scoreline was only 1-0, admittedly it could have been more, but in the end it wasn't. 2- We played with 3 regulars. I honestly thought we would have started 11 kids, given the fact that we have our 4 key players injured, and a very thin squad. Albeit we started with a few kids myself and fellow fans had never heard off. From a leicester point of view, we are disappointed that we could not go on a cup run again this year, but we realized the second we lost our 4 most influential players right at the start of the season that this was inevitable. We couldn't even play many back-up players simply because we couldn't risk any more injuries, because as of right now we only have one fit center mid in the squad in king, until drinkwater, james and hammond return from injury. Good luck for the rest of the season, surprised by the celebrations of your fans given the fact that on paper, given the fact we had a number of players who have yet to even play league football, you were probably the favorites."
The Doctor Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 "Dominated Chelsea" ?!? Be honest, first half if either side was going to make a break-through, it looked more likely to be us.
theessexfox Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 There's not much wrong with that? Very ungracious, loads of excuses, and a lot of incorrect facts stated later on. Be honest, first half if either side was going to make a break-through, it looked more likely to be us. We played well but I wouldn't say that.
MHC Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 I didn't copy and paste the rest. He was on the wind up, got their fans worked up unnecessarily. How you can justify begrudging a League Two side victory over a Premier League side is stupidity, regardless of circumstances, it's ridiculous.
Stadt Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Very ungracious, loads of excuses, and a lot of incorrect facts stated later on. We played well but I wouldn't say that. Ungracious? No. Something's were wrong but it's not as terrible as the op thinks.
Craig Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 Well, we'd have been ball 13, and Man City would have been ball 15 if we had stayed in the competition. We avoided Man City at home. Job's a good one.
lgfualol Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 At least we werent the only premiership team that went out. Nobody gives a shit about the league cup anymore it seems.

Condescending and ridiculous post from someone who claimed they didn't even care about the game yet felt the need to trek over to a Shrewsbury forum to make excuses and belittle them. Well done Grewkes. You pratt.

Howard9 Posted 27 August 2014 Posted 27 August 2014 I have been to many games that I've come out of disappointed with, Brighton being one of the darkest last season but quickly getting over it when thinking **** it were up to the perm, but last night i was very very disappointed not so much by the result, but the performance was absolutely awful, lets start at the back shall we. Hamer, had not a lot to do possibly could have saved the free kick but apart from that wasn't dreadful, and some amazingly accurate distribution Pearson, easily one of my pet hates for the game I couldn't believe what i was watching at the time, the style of football we play is the RB/LB go up with the team down the flanks, to get crosses in and create, but pearson seemed reluctant to run down the wing especially in the second half, his crossing was laughable was either too high or too low he just had a pretty shocking game in all, I thought he was 18, but he is actually 21, i seriously suggest the club either loans him out or just sell him on. Mahrez & Knockaert really didn't seem up to it for me, both ****ing around with the ball trying to be funny and not respecting the shrewsbury defenders, granted they carved a few chances, but in all they didn't do a lot the whole game, and especially didn't like passing the ball to cain and watson, who are the same as pearson for me, both were poor, and the game passed them by as did the shrewsbury team, Have to feel for wood to be honest lumped up front with big GTF in behind him, never got the service, but i have one little nit pick of wood that I've always had, he never jumps, a man 6'3 should jump for headers, he must think he's 7ft odd because he expects the ball on his chest in the box, jump lad and see what happens, GTF didn't play too bad apart from the silly foul that led to the free kick. Overall a absolutely shocking performance overall, hardly any positives IF any at all, but onwards and upwards to arsenal and hopefully we will see a couple of names come through the door to get everyone back on their feet.
MattGamble92 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Agree with howard9 analysis. The Pearson signing was questioned last year and even more so now. I just do not understand the logic of taking on a 20 year old who didn't make it at clubs like Scunthorpe. Fair enough if he was 16 or 17 but 20! We are in a position where our first team are operating at a far higher level than any of our u21s can handle. I wouldn't be happy with risking the likes of Cain and Watson if we were in League One.
Dan Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 I do think we in this country are far too quick to write off youngsters. How many senior games have they ever played before? I'm not defending how they played as they were largely anonymous, but the team selection was never ever going to benefit them. On the other side of it though, I did expect better from them than that - for supposedly some of our top players from an U21 side that came towards the top in the highest league. If that is seriously the level of the development league then I am seriously concerned for the future of the England national side.
Fox Ulike Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 I didn't even listen to it (I was out for a birthday) but I'm still pretty pissed off we got humiliated. These kind of results are never acceptable. It's not a reserve game, it's a competitive match. A cup match. A cup we once took very seriously. I don't blame Pearson for making changes. That team should still have beaten Shrewsbury. Maybe the players weren't bothered, but they bloody should have been. Anyway, I'm not quite sure what 10 pages of discussion is about. It was an embarrassing result, not good enough, we move on. Yes. Dedicated fans like you deserve much much better. Fans who sometimes listen to games on the radio are the life-blood of this club. You should write to the club asking for a full refund of all the Birthday Party paraphernalia, explaining that you felt so humiliated that you did not even partake of jelly and ice cream. Remember to enclose receipts as the club will need these for tax purposes. PS: I’m nominating you for “Fan of the Year 2014” PPS: I'm being sarcastic
Thracian Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Pearson was wretched. I mean the player, but take it as you wish because the manager didn't exactly shine either. The lad should be somewhere else and standing on his own feet.

youglan Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 come sunday night we could be in the bottom 3 and when the crystal palace comes around we could be bottom this league is very unforgive at times
foxfanazer Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 come sunday night we could be in the bottom 3 and when the crystal palace comes around we could be bottom this league is very unforgive at timesLuckily the season doesn't end on Sunday night and considering the first 3 games are Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal I wouldn't worry too much

Doesn't matter what team we put out - though Konchesky, Moore, Wood, Knockaert, Mahrez started - Shrewsbury can only beat what's in front of them, ultimately they beat Leicester City.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Pearson was wretched. I mean the player, but take it as you wish because the manager didn't exactly shine either. The lad should be somewhere else and standing on his own feet. I fully agree. Pearson should not be at this club.
Monsell1976 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 This needs putting to bed now, I'm as pissed off as anyone at getting beat, but it helps no one keep going over it. We got what a lot of the better sides got, we got beat for taking the opponents lightly and treated the competition with contempt, but looking at other results, we clearly weren't alone, and our defeat wasn't the biggest shock of the round. Again not condoning the performance, just think it's time to forget the result, and look forward to the rest of the season.
MattGamble92 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 I'm almost Always positive on here but now after giving a bit of criticism love realised just how over the top people get when you are critical of anything. Snarling sarcastic remarks in an attempt to gain rep points. Love how I can make a couple of remarks about Shrewsbury's support and people are so quick to defend them, yet if I was calling our own support it would be accepted.

Pearson said he chose a side he thought was capable of winning and if we'd played on paper - or even with our best team to start with - I might have agreed. But there was nothing "teamy" about it. We looked like so many car parts searching for an engine and an ignition key. Knockaert could have positioned himself in Nottingham and still had closer links with his team-mates than he had at The King Power. As for our "final passes" it seemed that most anything played to Knockaert was our final pass anyway and so many others were wasted with equal anti-climax. Part of the reason for all this was the impressive organisation - including tactical adjustments - of the Shrewsbury side and their dominance in so many key positions. They won the aerial battle both in defence and attack, had an irritating but effective organiser in central midfield, got people forward fast when the chance arose and, even acknowledging a couple of decent chances of ours, including Nugent's hitting the post, they had considerably more and left us a distant second in a two-horse race.
