Shrewsbury Post Match Thread

Im a City fan, I also like to gamble. Are you really telling me I shouldn't?

For fooks sake..

lol

Got to stand up for him here, you know your own side better than any other they're normally the best side to bet against, and most gamblers have a problem backing their own side.

And It doesn't necessarily  mean he wanted them to lose, he could want the team to win more than he wanted the money. But obviously if he (in the end correctly) fancies Shrewsbury at 8's he'd be an idiot to let loyalty stop him putting the bet on.

Stoke 2-1 Leicester, last seasons FA cup

Next 16 games - WWWWWDDWWWWDDWDW

:nigel:

Totally different though wasn't it. We narrowly lost to a top half Premier League side at their place, very little expectation to win and we gave a reasonable account of ourselves. Where as Huddersfield was a home defeat and a terrible performance which had a clear knock on effect.

I don't think this particular result will have as bigger impact as that the League cup never seems to and very few of our first choice regulars started but I certainly don't see how losing at home to a League Two side is going to do anyone any good, nor how an extra game every six weeks is going to ruin our chances of survival but there we are.

The next round is four weeks away, the fourth round five weeks after that and the quarter-finals six or seven weeks later.

Are we really saying the squad could not cope with that? We have, excluding the Christmas period, three midweek matches this season, two of which will be after the semi-finals.

On his showing last night we shouldn't have let him go? He played well a lot of good link up play? Funny though when the teams were announced I was the only one in the west stand to clap his name when it was announced. Bloke next to me says why you clapping his name? I say, cos he played for us and came up from our academy. He says did he?

Good for you. I always liked Wesolowski, and I was surprised when we let him go, although he had had some fairly serious injury problems.

Even though I think the League Cup should be at the bottom of our priorities, I feel we needed a win to keep moral high. I know we have a strong bond, but they could have done with a win to help them from going into a win-less run! Arsenal up next, then Stoke and Utd, we really will need to keep our heads up high. Although it's looking likely that we will be able to get 3 points from Utd at the moment. :P

Just pathetic! It just shows how important it is we add to the squad.Robinson is a waste of space and is putting our prem place at risk.Every time NP gives an interview he states we need to add to the squad. That is not a message to the fans because we already know this to be true, it is to Robinson and the board.

Unless you were forced to watch the game at gun point last night, I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone moaning about last night’s result and performance.

Anyone who turns up to a first or second round League Cup tie against Shrewsbury really deserves everything that they get.

These early ties are little more than reserve games. It’s just a good opportunity to blood some young players and give the fringe players a work-out. But that’s it.

If you’re expecting any more than that, then you’re a bit of a disabled if you ask me.

The players probably weren’t bothered. Neither were the fans. 32,000 turn up against Everton and then 8,000 last night.

Imagine if King had injured himself last night?  That would have been a disaster. The result is disappointing in the same way that it’s disappointing when you forget to take the bin out in the morning and miss the bin men. It’s annoying but no reason to take your own life in shame and horror.

One of the strangest points I've read on here

Er I dunno.

It is quite odd that your club captain has no desire to be in the dressing room when you're losing 1-0 at home to a League Two side.

I'm not having that quote- we were absolutely terrible away at Stoke. Dreadful.

I've just read that Matt Elliot gave Pearson motm?? If he did then fcuk me he needs to get a new career.

I've seen Elliot picked up on this by numerous people so I'll set the record straight.

Stringer  asked him for a MOTM, he errred and ummed over it for about 3 minutes, and basically implied they were all is shit as each other so it was hard to pick someone. He then gave it Pearson because "it was his senior debut". He hardly implied the lad had a good game.

To be fair to him it doesn't sound like an easy choice to make, although a lot of people seem to think Moore was alright.

We were alright when we made the subs. Could of equalized.

Before that we looked ordinary but we were away at the Britannia with a shit team out. 2-1 was more than acceptable.

Either way we were certainly better than the Huddersfield disgrace.

This!..... Our transfer policy has been nothing short of disastrous and will very likely cost us our place in the Premier league.. After waiting 10 years to get there you would have thought they would have ensured they had got this policy right.. Total Cock up!!!!

So people can't comment on how poor they were because they weren't forced to go? This place will be ****ing quiet if you ever get your way.

Pains me as much as anyone to say it but if you think we'll get anything off Arsenal you're deluded. Whether it's 0-1 or 0-6, Arsenal at just under even money (William Hill) is an absolutely silly price.

Why, because the ressies were shit last night? We went toe to toe with the title favourites on Saturday and for an hour matched them and were arguably the better side. Play like we did then and we'll turn a lot of sides over, and quite possibly spring an upset on a big side or two

Just getting angrier and more disappointed about this by the minute.

And very worried for the season ahead. Rot setting in just in time to entrench itself over the international break before we finally get the opportunity to play teams we had a chance of beating.

If Mahrez and Knockaert are going to be anywhere near that bad in any other games this season, there's no way we will stay up.

for christ sake  lol  lol  lol  lol

Mahrez and Knockaert aren't going to be the deciding factors as to whether we stay up. Against Chelsea Mahrez made a few mistakes but was very dangerous and always in the right position. I didn't go to the game last night but why does one bad game define a player? did you watch Mahrez and Knockaert last season??? If so you understand how talented they are, especially Mahrez. It's the league shitting cup. Everyone needs to calm down!!!

People can say what they want mate.

Just because I call someone a disabled doesn’t mean I don’t acknowledge their democratic right to splatter their mongy views left right and centre.

You say we were poor and from the sounds of it you’re probably right. I would call that a reasoned response.

But was it “pathetic”, was it a “disgrace” and “a joke”? Or did we just lose a game of football?

What surprises me with this thread are some of the people who already seem to have become quite negative. The positive types I much expect anyway. If we lost every one of our first twenty games, they'd be shouting that we can still make Europe lol

But some of the more negative comments I didnt expect from certain posters.

Personally, I'm pretty much content with our start and last night, as I said earlier, I expected us to lose anyway.

We must get a bigger squad, with quality replacements. Yes we are trying, but if we don't I can see us really start to suffer because of it.

Oh yes we were better than against Huddersfield, but so awful until the last 15 or so.

I think the time to worry about signings or lack of is at the end of the window. A lot can happen between now and then. I trust Nige

Sorry to piss on everyone's chips, but if, like many are saying who presumably went tonight?, we weren't 'trying', well I'm afraid the buck stops with the manager doesn't it? There was no reason why the players put out tonight shouldn't be trying? Younger lads, wanting to impress, some squad players, wanting to impress? I can only assume therefore, they were instructed not to be too bothered? What other conclusion can be reached?

If they weren't told this, and just weren't bothered, then I worry for the likes of Wood and Knockaert.

Are you sure we just didnt get beat by a better team on the night? It does happen.

I don't think you can blame Nigel for the performance. They were in every since of the word a team, the side we put out was pretty shambolic. And I'm not saying I'd have done anything different, there's no way I would have started Andy King, so two academy central midfielders had to play last night. Probably wasn't worth risking RDL either as we have very little cover at RB. They've made a great start to the season in League Two, and yesterday they played with the same spirit and character we played with last year and in the first two games of this season. I don't think it's that our players didn't try, or didn't care, but too many played badly in an unfamiliar team. I don't know why people feel the need to panic about it though, if any one of the second choice players was put into our usual starting eleven I'm sure they'd look much better than they did last night.

And the GTF abuse is both boring and totally uncalled for. He isn't at the club to start games, he did so last night because we want to keep Nugent and Ulloa available for the Prem games and Vardy clearly isn't fit. GTF is very good at the job he does and did last season.

Posted

I kind of hope GTF just goes away. He is too obese for football.

The GTF one is a weird conundrum. He must do the same training as the rest of them, be on the same supplements, pass the same fitness tests. I just think that's his natural shape. He's just a bit chubby.

It could be worse.

We could have lost 4-0 against MK Dons with a 25 million quid Brazilian playing & an England international.

I said before the game that I wanted us to lose... Same with FA cup 1st round... Our only focus this year needs to be doing well in the Premiership. Look what happened to Wigan.

Are you being serious?

We'll have a job going out in the FA cup 1st round wont we.

Wigan weren't relegated because of their FA cup run. And besides to be totally honest I'd take relegation for an FA cup win. It's certainly the most prestigious trophy we've got any chance of winning in the next 10 years at least. More than likely my life time, certainly means more than being charged £60 a ticket to watch teams spank us every time we go away.

And if we're going down that route look what happened to Manchester City, Swansea, Liverpool, Man U, Spurs, Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea. Blackburn Rovers. Middlesborough, Portsmouth, Everton and indeed us in the years we won the cup. They're all the cup winners of the Prem era. Yes two got relegated, so what, it's clear most cup winners stay up and if you look at losing finalists I think even more stay up, like Sunderland and Hull last year.

Massive massive myth cup runs distract you, they are what you make of them.

Posted

No massive problem here. Both of our performances in the prem so far have been positive and that's without some really key players.

The Shrewsbury game just further highlights the need to add depth to this talented but thin on the ground bunch. Let's keep it positive and enjoy getting back to giving the big boys a hard time

I was just thinking about the contrast compared to our 5-2 win over Carislie last season- to be fair we played our first team I think but Wood got a hat trick and everyone gave it their all but we was going for promotion at that time as well so I do not buy focusing on the league excuses.

3. 'Pearson sent the team out not to give 100%.' Really? Does he seem like the sort of bloke who tolerates losing any match? The Fans who went can't be let down by the team selection, he has said all week the Kids will be getting a run out, but if it makes you feel like a superfan to go the 2nd round of the league cup so you can have a good old moan about how loyal you are and been let down then poor you.

4. 'The League Cup is important.' It's not, as can be seen by all Premier League teams tonight sending out a weakened side. It's nowhere near the same competition it was back when we won it, as teams no longer consider it a worthwhile venture both financially or playing wise. The reason the FA cup has a greater respect still is that it is played on Saturdays, meaning managers are more willing to pick a stronger 11 as they have a full weeks rest until the next league game.

How can you justify putting these points together in the same post?

If the League is unimportant then it's very much in our interests to go out. If that's the case it would make sense for a manager to tell his team to not put the effort in.
