Does Claret seriously think Burnley will stay up?

I don't think you're out of it, but I don't think you'll manage it. Simple reason of not being good enough.

I'd say they will go down if I had to tip, but no way would I rule them out of staying up. The bottom eight in this league is dogshit, Burnley have done ok considering who they have out so far.

Any three of Newcastle, Burnley, West Brom, Palace, Stoke, Villa, QPR (that's one cert btw if Bagbollocks is still in charge before Santa delivers) Sunderland or West Ham or even us could go if a bad run of form or other factors took control (silly panic sacking).

Personally I'd go Burnley, QPR and Palace but this is a weird league.

I'll go Burnley, QPR and West Brom. Still not convinced West Brom are any good.

Burnley are like us in many ways, but I just don't think they're cut out for the league. They could only draw with us on what was probably our poorest home performance in 2014 (barring the Brighton debacle).

QPR are just shit and look doomed to come 20th. Wouldn't be surprised if Redknapp leaves and they get lucky yet again and stay up though.

And we could only draw with a Burnley side missing 4 key players.

Very strange logic for witting off Burnley.

i get this but bare in mind how bad they were and then bare in mind how pleased they were with the performance and you've gotta think they're used to being even shitter than that. which means they'll go down

I'm still not convinced Villa will stay up. They had a good start, but have just had 3 defeats on the bounce. They're not very good.

But we know they're not shitter than that better than most Premier League fans as we saw from them last season.

If you get a last minute equaliser from a free kick you're always going to come away buzzing.

When you consider that a similarly weakened side had lost 4-0 at West Brom last week and they know objectively from last year's league table we're a better side than them (Burnley) and that they hadn't scored for over 10 hours before Saturday, it's no wonder they went bananas over it.

It's a rose-tinted look at that performance from Burnley and their fans because of that last minute free kick. We knew we'd played poorly regardless of what happened at the end. I'm sure in the cold light of day they'll know that a semi-competent Premier league side would have turned us over last weekend.

If Burnley can't keep their key players fit they will go down without a shadow of a doubt. But their expectations on Saturday were massively reduced because of those injuries, hence the jubilation. When Ings is back and they have a central midfield I think they'll be very competitive, based on what I saw from them last season. But if (and probably) when they go down it will have been due to a failure to add depth to the squad and add creativity.

ttfn has said pretty much everything I wanted to say.

i wasn't in about them being happy with the results or the circumstance of the result. of course they're going to be delighted with a point against a better team. i meant take a look at their forums etc, their player ratings and post match comments. they think they played superbly. they've given players 8s and 9s out of 10.

which makes me think they're used to performing (results aside) WORSE than they did on Saturday. you can't get much worse than how bad they were on saturday. yet they seemingly can, and will, and will therefore go down unless something changes.

Like their two first choice strikers returning from injury?

that would be a change yes, well done

A defeat to Palace and a draw against an injury hit (already poor) Burnley, I wouldn't be getting too cocky just yet. Posts like that have a habit of biting you on the arse.

Wtf are you on about? How is what I wrote in any way cocky? I didn't even mention Leicester, let alone where I think we'll finish! Will that post bite my arse if Burnley or QPR stay up? I couldn't care less if they did. I'm just saying neither look good enough to survive. I hope you'll stick around.

But who's to say they're going to be any good this year. They might struggle to score goals, much like nugent.

Pearson is extremely naive when it comes to interviews etc., and he let himself be shown in a very bad light after the Burnley fiasco.

Embarassed himself. I imagine with the week off he'll be taking a media coaching course. Not sure how he'd come back if he was to deliver another interview like that.

What do you make of Dyche's transfer dealings?

It's hard to judge really. I would have thought that Juke was brought in as a stop gap until Vokes was fit. Sordell was a back up for Ings, Taylor, Reid and Ward all back up for the squad. We've been unfortunate with injuries so they've all been thrown in at once. So, rather than have one or two back ups in the side we have have four or five.

Kightly and Barnes his main two have split opinion but both had massive moments last year that saw us over the line.

His big one was Jones. His ability on the ball allowed us to play 442 last season and you could argue was the piece of the jigsaw that Eddie Howe was missing from his promising squad.

I quite like Burnley, a proper club and have done most things right. Decent fans too - good laugh every time I've been up there.

I just can't stand that fat ginger bag of fermenting pus. It's a completely irrational hatred of a man I've never met personally. And I mean hate. Maybe I've got a problem with brick tops. Or maybe it's obese know-it-alls that I instinctively abhor.

Unfortunately he will only lose his job if Burnley go down (and not necessarily even then) so my feelings about Burnley staying up are mixed. Would like them to stay up for their fans but if they do manage it, I know Dyche will insist it was all down to him and his unrivalled genius – after all, they've only spent £1.50p on their squad.

Interesting read from sky's Martin Tyler ..

The hard yards

Hi Martin. This week there has been a lot of talk about Queens Park Rangers players not putting in the effort during their games, with Gary Neville branding them "shambolic". I was at the game and they did seem a bit slow and sluggish with little urgency when losing. Are there any stats to supports this? For example did they cover the least ground on the pitch compared to other Premier League sides?

MARTIN SAYS: To answer your question, I have asked Opta to tell us how much ground each team collectively covered in the Premier League this weekend.

As you suspect, QPR did less running that any other team in the top flight this weekend. Their players collectively ran 107km (66.5miles) according to Opta’s stats. That’s almost 2km fewer than the next lowest team, Swansea City.

Remarkably, they covered 13km less than Burnley, who notched up 120.4km in their match against Leicester – the most of any Premier League team this weekend. Burnley’s players covered 5.5km more than the next side on the list, which was Manchester United who covered just under 115km in their win over Everton.

Burnley were (successfully) chasing the game at Leicester and United boss Louis van Gaal and Spurs' Mauricio Pochettino demand a lot of movement from their players, which perhaps explains why those teams are at the top of this list. It’s interesting to note that Burnley ran around 1.3km more per outfield player than QPR.

Distance covered in the Premier League (October 4/5 2014):

Burnley: 120.4km

Manchester United: 114.9km

Tottenham Hotspur: 114.2km

Sunderland: 113.9km

Leicester City: 113.8km

Liverpool: 113.7km

Everton: 113.5km

Newcastle United: 113.5km

Aston Villa: 112.0km

Manchester City: 111.1km

Crystal Palace: 110.9km

Hull City: 110.9km

Chelsea: 110.6km

West Bromwich Albion: 110.1km

Arsenal: 110.1km

Southampton: 110.1km

Stoke City: 109.6km

West Ham United: 109.4km

Swansea City: 108.9km

Queens Park Rangers:107.0km

Very strange logic for witting off Burnley.

I'm just going off what I saw on Saturday. I saw us at our worst draw with a weakened Burnley side. Providing our worst doesn't become regular, we will be fine, and I'm not convinced they will.

The only sensible logic is that the worst three teams in the league will go down. I believe Burnley are one of those and that we aren't. I admire Burnley's fighting spirit, but their lack of quality is evident.

I'm still not convinced Villa will stay up. They had a good start, but have just had 3 defeats on the bounce. They're not very good.

They started well last year and absolutely dropped like a stone too. It's a tough one with Villa as their defeats all came to top sides but I didn't see us fold so easily at Chelsea or at home to Arsenal. I'm not convinced they're a better side than us.

Makes me laugh how much stick he's taken for it yet if it was Mourinho people would be kissing his arse.
