Captain... Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 It was horrendous on Saturday, we were running a little late so got dropped off rather than try and park (parking for the Arsenal match was pretty bad too, and that was a Sunday). Only been to the 2 aforementioned games, has anyone else noticed it has been worse? I don't remember it being this bad last time we were in the prem, is the extra 10,000 people really making that much difference, or is it just taking a bit of time for people to adjust and start setting off a little earlier than usual? Just wondering what everyone else's thoughts were.
David Guiza Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Think Narborough Road was partially closed this weekend which probably didn't help. The traffic everywhere in the centre seems to be getting worse, I finish work at 4pm and it's already solid traffic - God only knows what it's like 5pm onwards. 'Traffic calming' measures and fellas in yellow jackets who think they're police don't help at all.
orangecity23 Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 "Traffic isn't getting worse, you're imagining it ... " Seriously, the traffic on Saturday was the worst I've seen for a normal Saturday game. There was some roadworks on the railway bridge on Fosse Road, with lane closures, which was probably a major cause. Pete said it had been planned to avoid matchday delays, so I'm guessing they made the usual Leicester City Council pig's ear of everything.
Footballwipe Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Seems to be bad all round this season. I walk down Narborough road and from KFC to Upperton Rd I often beat cars in the traffic (this from about 2pm onwards) because it's so bad. It didn't help this Saturday just gone because there was a lane out under the bridge, but Narborough Road is just not fit for purpose in general Can't say anything about the other routes into the city but that is particularly poor, and it's not exclusive to us too, I walked towards KFC before the Tigers first home game and the traffic then was equally horrendous, if not a tad worse, and that is only for 24,000 people. As a side note I see the rowing club have gotten all entrepreneurial and bumped their car park charge up to £8, Premier League prices
davieG Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Lots more parking restrictions since we were last in the pl plus massively increased charges. When you've experienced the joy of parking on Burnmoor St at 2.45 paying cash at the turnstile then 3's a crowd
ScouseFox Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 an extra 50% compared to the last 10 years, added to more parking restrictions mean that people should be leaving themselves an extra 50% of time to get there and do their normal routine. so if you used to give yourselves 40 mins or so you should be looking at an hour now. i doubt anyone is. i know i don't. so everyone ends up later than they planned. so those who plan to walk round the ground at 2.57, get through the turnstile at 2.59 and into their seat at 3.01 are gonna be late.
Saxondale Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Town was busy generally with all the shoppers. Always happens this time of year when the weather starts to get miserable - people don't want to sit in the garden or go to a park so they head into town and do early Christmas shopping. I park in the Highcross John Lewis car park on matchdays and it was absolutely rammed beyond belief.
DennisNedry Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Aylestone Road wasn't too bad for Burnley. although it was for Man Utd. The football traffic is not as bad as rush hour traffic.
Livid Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Usually take the train from Syston for Saturday games but park in one of the car parks on Freemans Common for Sunday/Evening matches. The Arsenal game was a bit of a nightmare as I parked in one of the first car parks on the one way system into FC (thinking I could get out easily and i'd be away) got out of the car park easy enough but then it was total gridlock for about 40 minutes. The Man Utd game went back to my usual and parked in the Fruit and Veg Market (£5!!!! Premier League Prices!) and got away really quickly! I don't think the restrictions of Narborough Road have helped with the general flow of traffic.
kingcarr21 Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 i left my house at 12:40 (Glenfield) and went down A50 towards frog island and it was gridlock. Cut across to King Richards road and an hour after leaving my house we were stuck in gridlock on King Richards Road. Not sure if there was road works or an accident but certainly much busier than usual. Funnily enough the closer to the ground we got the easier the traffic became. We parked in the Industrial estate behind the Vauxhall garage (didnt even know there was parking around there) £3 which i thought was pretty decent. After the game though we couldnt even get out of our spacew for about 40 mins. i can only assume Police close the estate for a while to let traffic die down. Got in car at 5:15 and didnt get home until 6:40. Really takes the piss. Think it better to park at the £2.50 all day car park near Holiday inn and walk cause i reckon you b home quicker that way
yorkie1999 Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 I was talking to my cousin before the game and he reckons there are now parking meters, 50p for 3 hours, where the restricted parking is. But it's about time the council did something about getting in and out of Leicester on macth days
Soar Fox Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Got in the taxi from the pub in Aylestone at 14.30 was sat in my seat by 14.50. Walked from the ground back to The Lounge on aylestone road and was having a pint by 17.30

Don't park at the rowing club, park at the end of filbert st. Costs a fiver and they have people watching the cars, unlike the rowing club.
Fox92 Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Was really bad on Saturday. Took ages, and everywhere seemed gridlocked.
Thomas_Kirkup Posted 7 October 2014 Posted 7 October 2014 If you're coming from the east through town or inner ring road then i believe its miles of cars for the john lewis car park. heaviest traffic around abbey lane and holiday inn.
davieG Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 Letter to the Merc Has anyone else reported the horrendous queues on the A47 Hinckley Road, in Leicester, on Saturday? As a Leicester City season-ticket holder, I was working in the morning in my office in Lutterworth and left in good time to travel up the M1 and then cut through the Braunstone estate to avoid the normally congested Narborough Road. It was only the following day I found out Narborough Road would have been closed anyway due to the work on the bridge (at a cost of £78,000 to the cash-strapped council). I joined the A47 at 1.40pm, which should have given me good time to park up near the Holiday Inn and walk to the ground. Traffic was slow (only to be expected) until it reached a standstill after the junction with Wyngate Drive, where the road changes to King Richards Road. It was gridlock with traffic trying to cross Fosse Road and traffic merging from Glenfield Road. Passengers were getting out of their cars and walking, tempers were frayed and there were numerous instances of erratic driving borne out of frustration. I calculate it took me over an hour-and-a-half to travel the last mile and, as a result, I arrived at where I was due to park at 3.45pm – yes, half-time! Needless to say I didn't see any of the match. During the time I was in my car there was a traffic and travel announcement, in which there was no mention of the problem. The only mention was an incident on the motorway. What was the most frustrating aspect was that once I eventually got to the Holiday Inn roundabout there was no apparent reason for the hold-up. Although Vaughan Way was busy in the direction of Highcross at least the traffic was moving. If the situation had been caused by an incident such as a road traffic accident, I could fully understand to reason for the hold-up, but the only reason I can see could be the reduction of lanes around Holiday Inn due to the Jubilee Square development. If so, thank you, Mr Soulsby, for me wasting nearly three hours of my life and missing the match. I know you should give yourself good time to get to the ground, especially with increased attendances in the Premier League. However, on this basis I should have set out over three-and-a-half hours before kick-off. George Reynolds, Newtown Linford. kingcarr21 Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 i also got caught up in that traffic but went up Narborough road and turned left at Tesco. All the roads after that were pretty clear. guess i just got lucky
Babylon Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 Get the bus there, stay in pub until traffic has gone or you are no longer able to talk, get dirty chicken, flag down cab, forget address, beg driver using only grunts and hand motions to just drive in southerly direction until you see something vaguely like home, forget how to open door, try to jump fence, fail miserably, curl up in ball until sober enough to remember you use a key to open a door, open door and go to bed. Sod the traffic, my usual journey is much more fun.
demon_dog Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 I also found the same problem travelling in down the A47. Realising that there seemed to be a big problem (having not moved for around 15mins) I cut down fosse road turned left at the lights down Hinckley rd, crossed straight over Narborough Rd,into Braunie gate carried straight on over the old Bow Bridge traffic lights, turned left then right into King Richards Rd (this was at a virtual standstill) forced my way across three lanes of traffic and turned immediately left down King Richard III rd. for the pay and display car park. A long way round but still a hell of a lot quicker. Having parked the car, purchased my ticket, walked back to the junction still found traffic had barely moved! This was to say the least most unusual.
Unabomber Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 It was diabolical I missed at least 2 pints because of it, shambolic situation.
MrSpaM Posted 9 October 2014 Posted 9 October 2014 Narborough road was closed at the bridge just past Iceland due to them repainting it. Ridiculous idea to close the road on match day.
