  1. 1. Should Nigel Pearson leave LCFC?

A "couple" does mean TWO, so your opinion is wrong. If you meant a few, then you should have said so in the first place.

A couple is literally two; but it is often used as in the neighbourhood of two

I have the impression that it is used loosely only when an approximation is in play. That is, you can say

  • a couple of days, meaning two days, give or take some hours
  • a couple of weeks meaning two weeks, give or take a few days
  • a couple of dozen, meaning two dozen, give or take six or eight.

You're welcome.

Here's my tuppence worth...

Not happy with where we are or how we're playing at the minute, but nor am i sure getting rid is the answer right now.

Pearson always said he wanted to give the players who got us up the chance to prove themselves and the majority of us thought many could make that step up.

It's not his style to damage the strong bonds he clearly had in the dressing room by bombing out the guys who stormed the championship for big money replacements.

Having said that it's clear that some of these players now aren't up to the standard, so having had their chance and failed, he's now in a position where he can go and strengthen in January.

If it doesn't work out and we go down then i'm still not convinced there's anyone better placed to get us back up. Pearson isn't perfect that's for sure, but we're a yo-yo provincial club so we aren't going to get a Guardiola....

We can always hope that yo yo clubs can do well and stabilise and have successive seasons in the top half and win trophies ( league cup anyway ) and not be a yo yo club in future.

Have you heard of Southhampton?

Or a team called Leicester City a few years ago?

Yes i've heard of Southampton - the season theyr'e having is probably the best in 30-40 years though so hardly the norm for them is it?

I'm not suggesting we shouldn't be ambitious and look to do a Stoke or something similar and even build from there and do even more. Equally i'm not daft and don't think we should gamble our future and end up like Leeds or Sheff Weds floating round in the championship with no money. The stable premier years and trophy winning part of our history is the exception, not the norm.

Depends on your expectations really.

You're right, the same silly faces, want him to stay!

What like the same silly ones who wanted him to stay last time, you know, before he went on to get us promoted.

The Southampton example is very interesting because there are a lot of similarities between our two clubs. There is also an interesting example to draw upon in terms of Southampton's first season back in the Premier League;

"The Saints' first season in the top flight since relegation in 2005 started at The Etihad. The opening fixtures did not go well as Southampton conceded 24 goals in their first eight games and picked up just 4 points.

Southampton's form did however improve as the season progressed, with a 2–2 draw away at Chelsea on 16 January 2013, pulling the side to 15th and three points clear of the relegation zone. Saints had fought from 2–0 down with goals from Lambert and Puncheon securing a point. Two days after that draw, Nigel Adkins was sacked amid controversy to be immediately replaced by Argentinian coach Mauricio Pochettino.[31][32]

After Pochettino's arrival, Southampton recorded some impressive results, with 3–1 home wins against the previous season's champions Manchester City, and recorded another 3–1 win against Liverpool. Southampton soon followed suit against the 2010 champions Chelsea, securing a 2–1 win. On 14 May 2013, Southampton confirmed their safety in the Premier League for the following season. Southampton finished the season in 14th place, four places above the relegation zone, on 41 points."

If we were to replace Pearson (because I don't see him resigning) we'd probably need to take a punt on someone who could be much more progressive - so not Pulis in my opinion - don't see him as a fit.

Wonder if Esteban has any interest in management?

The margins are so small and were so close that to throw it all away for the sake of being patient. If we have to take one step backwards in order to move forward then so be it.

So after our best performance for weeks you're still banging the same bloody drum?

We lost....again....his position is untenable and many many posters agree with me even those that have backed Pearson up until now. I get the impression that some fans will never change their minds. I was Pearson in until a few weeks back and even then swayed but I care to much about my club to allow this embarrassing run to continue without punishment.

Answer me this....how many other managers would survive a run of 2 points from 39?

What would answering that question prove?
