Blizzard Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 The game on Sunday was like an FA cup tie. However at one point Villa had 72% possession, according to a stat. It can only be said that we were embarrassing in terms of all-round performance, and yet another sending off, does not help our cause. What I would like to know is What was Pearson told at the end of last season, and how much money was made available for him to strengthen our squad. If he believed that the squad was strong enough to challenge other Premiership clubs and stay up this season, it seems it was an error of judgment by Pearson. A few opinions. Nuggent is simply not a Premiership striker. Our defense on Sunday was ineffective. The midfield had no control of the game. There was no service to forwards. There were no crosses for Ulloa, he had poor service. We are poor at any set pieces. In January without any new signings and a rebuilding of the squad in some form, it will prove to be a long hard season. I sat down a week ago to predict the number of points we might salvage and I came up with a total of 31. No enough to stay up. Comments please. a week
Fox92 Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 Thought Nugent was decent when he came on. Not any worse than any other player. Our defence is a problem anyway. The second goal, big Was is so high up the pitch, we lose it, he's chasing back and I don't understand why he doesn't just foul the player (can't remember who it was) to prevent anything happening (in which he crossed it and they scored) so we could just reset and get players back.
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 It is quite some crisis, probably falls somewhere in between the Anglo-Portugese crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis in terms of Crisisnesss.
Babylon Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 Who is Nuggent? I think he means Nugent, the scape goat.
Tommy G Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 Blame Pearson for getting us promoted! :xmascool:
Babylon Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 Blame Pearson for getting us promoted! :xmascool: What a twat, the absolute temerity of it.
Freesolo Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 It was lost in the midfield IMO it was so frustrating watch Villa string 10 to 12 passes together and completely over run us in the centre of the park, then when we got the the ball we would maybe get 3 passes go knowhere lose the ball and it would go straight back to villa passing us off the park, its the first game in a long time where i have been shouting at a TV "WTF is going on we are awful", fortunately they didn't have a dangerous Striker or it might have been 4 or 5 against us, mind you Kasper played a blinder for the first time in ages so who knows

I think Was did try and fould him (albonglahor?)... I don't wanna carp on about this, but when your defenders are caught upfield your defensive midfielder drops in and covers. But we don't have one. So, Schlupp was drawn in from out wide to cover the gap in the middle... but all that does is move the problem elsewhere and left Hutton free. Same as Newcastle though, we were completely caught out on the break with less than 20 minutes away from a decent away point.
cc_star Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 What's people's obsession with possession. Possession only matters if your style needs it. Effective counterattacking is the way of the underdog... Our inability to take our chances while countering is costing us just as much as any catastrophic error from Moore or Schmeichel

filbertway Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 Yeah the possession stats didn't concern me at all, I'm sure 90% of Villa's possession was passing around their back line. Absolutely no danger in that position.
cc_star Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 Perhaps against QPR, I can barely remember us creating a chance in the other 9 (apart from the goals). There are so many key moments in matches, a few times a game a James skies it from edge of box or Cambiasso fires wide. Schlupp and his Toblerones for boots when he finds himself in an ok position. Vardy being incredibly wasteful. Mahrez after his 50% dangerous spell is over and he moves into his 50% awful spell gifting possession with awful control or sloppy pass when finding a teammate looks far easier Game after game after game when we get in a good position we blow our chance when we don't keep a shot on target or make a key pass. These errors add up to make our regular defensive gifts critical

Plus we’re not creating chances on the counter-attack.
RedSoxUK Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 I don't think the possession stat quite summarised the 'dominance' Villa supposedly imposed - it was a game which could have gone either way and bad awareness and positioning cost us the 2nd Villa goal. Most of Villa's successful passes / possession was carried out in their half, thus ineffective and irrelevant. Sending off was very harsh, can't criticise the team over another red card for individual reaction / poor refereeing. Nugent is a very good Championship player / not great or ideal for Prem which is why he doesn't start, but he looked good vs Villa. Cambiasso / James together does seem quite ineffective in terms of an attacking sense (if I see every chance fall to Matty James vs Man City, i'm going to rage,) poor defensively too at time it has to be said, but they performed well, put in some great tackles and won possession back many times for us. linked with... .. Cambiasso was actually quality at finding the pass in knowledge of Vardy's runs beating the offside trap, it was a constant threat. So you say no service to forwards? I disagree for the Villa game. I agree with set pieces - either Pearson is fixated on one man (James) taking all the set pieces, but he's shocking, and we seem very very flat in terms of creativity and execution when it comes to corners, and free-kicks. Pearson really should be noticing these wasted opportunity's, For me it has to be Cambiasso every single time, and if not him then Albrighton when he's on. And for Corners and free-kicks, Cambiasso has to sit on the edge of the box or be outside the area where he can be more effective at putting in a return ball or having a shot, him being in the thick of it does absolutely nothing but a defensive clearance.
sylofox Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 Was unaware of the current crisis. Will there be enough to make Xmas puddings and xmas cakes or will it ruin all our xmas's. Oh and mince pies.
Kingy_85 Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 So much abuse for Mahrez but last season he was in the French second division. What are people expecting? He needs to find his feet at this level and it's not his fault he's our only real option. Our recruitment in the Summer was worrying and it's clear now that we didn't bring enough in.

Wasn't he booked for the free-kick in the lead up to their first goal? Oh, and possession means very little. Villa may have had a lot of it, but bar the first 15 minutes of the second half, they did nothing with it. You can make 200 passes between your centre-backs and keeper, keeping it for 10 minutes, but if you make no penetrative threat with it, you might as well not have had it
ealingfox Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 31 points is incredibly optimistic right now. I'm struggling to see how we will pull ourselves over the Derby total tbh.

Was had already been booked so couldnt really foul as he'd have been off. James should have hacked him.
Corky Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 It is quite some crisis, probably falls somewhere in between the Anglo-Portugese crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis in terms of Crisisnesss. Bob Geldof will be releasing a single to highlight our situation soon.
Clever Fox Posted 8 December 2014 Posted 8 December 2014 James went to tackle him and then for some reason decided to stand of, allowing him to pick his pass to beneteke to cross for Hutton. Maybe Kasper could have some and taken it in the Air also. Moore was a liability all afternoon.
Sunbury Fox Posted 9 December 2014 Posted 9 December 2014 Agree that the set piece delivery is generally poor but another issue is that we lack big physical players who can win headers from corners or free kicks. In the second half on Sunday, with no Morgan or Ulloa, who was going to win a header?
