Although if you are talking the importance of the signing rather than their performance on the pitch I would say Tony Cottee as he was the first time in my life time we had been able to attract a big name.

Didn't we sign someone in the 60s who was then at that point an English transfer record? If I'm right in saying that, then surely that would be it.
