David Hankey Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Just as in the Tevez cash a few years back WHU have ridden their luck over breaching FIFA rules with regard to Diafra Sakho. Fining a Club a Premiership player's weeks wage (£71K) is a pittance. They should have been thrown out of the FA Cup and the tie handed to Bristol City. Just to add insult to injury WHU received £90K from the FA for winning that 4th Round tie!!
Fox92 Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Should they have been thrown out the FA Cup though? I'm not sure where to stand on this. A fine is ok isn't it? Or at least play the fourth round tie with Bristol City again?
shen Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Why is this any different to Schlupp scoring the winner against Spurs?
ScouseFox Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 i still can't believe anyone thinks they've done anything wrong. they own the player, they pay the player, they played the player. maybe this will be a wake up call to the idiots at the african fa that even their own players don't want to go to a tournament in the middle of the season. Why is this any different to Schlupp scoring the winner against Spurs? ghana didn't pick schlupp after they independently assessed him and agreed he was injured.

I see... well in that case BAN THE FUDGERS
Danizen Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I'm shocked. It's not like West Ham to field an ineligible player, is it? I don't think they will be kicked out but I hope Bristol City take them to the cleaners with compensation.

Dan Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I cannot see how this is any different to what we did with Schlupp. I'm with West Ham on this one. The Cup of Nations is a joke of a tournament.
Danizen Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 The decision has already been made and they haven't? Proved right, again!
Soar Fox Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I cannot see how this is any different to what we did with Schlupp. I'm with West Ham on this one. The Cup of Nations is a joke of a tournament. Look at ScouseFox's post above. Agree with you saying the tournament is a joke, I don't think the players even really care about participating in it.
Unabomber Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I hear from a steady source that Ghana assessed Jeff which makes us in the clear thankfully.
Corky Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I hear from a steady source that Ghana assessed Jeff which makes us in the clear thankfully. This one?
Guest MattP Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 We're totally in the clear, Schulpp went down to London to see the official Ghanian witch doctor and was excluded from the squad on his advice.

The Cup of Nations is a joke of a tournament. disagree with this! the only issue is they play in winter. if they rotated it in the summer in years without the world cup and euros, then it would be watched by the football starved masses! although im guessing the heat at that time makes it unbearable.
Strokes Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 There is a time and a place for an international football tournament, afcon is neither.
Captain... Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Sakho wasn't ineligible to play so it is no business of Bristol City.

Leicesterpool Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I do think it's a bit harsh, but I do wonder if it wasn't a london club would they have been kicked them out?
Strokes Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I do think it's a bit harsh, but I do wonder if it wasn't a london club would they have been kicked them out? Why?
filbertway Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Why? The FA is based in London, so they're biased towards London teams. Obviously.
Fox92 Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 I do think it's a bit harsh, but I do wonder if it wasn't a london club would they have been kicked them out? I don't think that's got anything to do with it. I mean, could you imagine them trying to kick Manchester United out?
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Sakho wasn't ineligible to play so it is no business of Bristol City. This.
Babylon Posted 5 February 2015 Posted 5 February 2015 Sakho wasn't ineligible to play so it is no business of Bristol City. Some of the press articles I have read seem to state otherwise, the FIFA rules I've seen quoted state that he shouldn't have been playing and that cup competitions should be forfeited to the opposition in such a case. But they went against their own rule book and just issued a fine instead. I'm no expert on FIFA rules myself though so can only repeat what I read.

To be fair, I don't think that'd help you out anyway. Pretty sure they decide punishments by cutting a chicken's head off and seeing where it eventually lands on a board, much like in south park. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz-PtEJEaqY

Playing in winter or not, it's a very poor quality tournament which is a total fix.
