Handing out 4 year contracts

This was a massive mistake. How many players do we have on long term deals now? I can think of Schmeichel, de laet, moore, Drinkwater, james, vardy.

This is one of the reasons we can't sack pearson. If the new manager doesn't fancy these players - they aren't budging anytime soon. No way will they get the same money elsewhere as here. We will see similar situations to Wayne bridge at man city and Gallagher here. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but why on earth did we give championship players long term deals when in the premiership.

Because they were out best players on the whole and we wanted to keep them. What a moronic thing to say. Nobody here can have estimated that those players, Drinky for example would struggle so badly. They walked the Championship. They're still excellent Champiosnhip players and if we do, and it seems we may well, get relegated they will be exactly what we need.

Why use words like moronic to someone just giving his opinion, think he had raised a good point and how can you be sure they will perform again just because it clicked last season

Nothing wrong with that list as squad PL players.

Does no harm to have these players on long term deals. If we are relegated, they are more than capable of performing at that level and helping us back up.

The problem we have is not enough PL standard starting eleven players to supplement that list. No doubt many would be moaning if drinkwater, James and Moore were nicked for a million at the end of the season. As it stands, we can't really be offered less than the value of the remainder of their contracts if anyone wants to buy them.

Money isn't our problem - it's quality individuals ( and some tactical nouse)

We gave most long deals before the season started after a fantastic season when their reputation was still high and interest very likely.

This is just hindsight coming into play.

Regardless of whether I agree here or not, 4 years is a long time. Or seems it anyway, especially in football.

It's so easy to say looking back now they were a mistake but I bet if you dig up the threads from when the players signed these deals there isn't many if anyone criticising the lengths of the contracts.

I agree with this. Apologies for the unnecessary harshness.

Why can't people come out with these statements at the time, not 6 months later. This is such an overreaction to form. Do you believe in the players quality.

This squad is young and inexperienced, and like after the Watford defeat it will get stronger.

Youd all jizz yourself if it was Mahrez or Knocky, or even Kramaric. Why the hate on these players, 4 years is a big commitment to a club on their behalf as well, especially being stuck with deluded pr***s like our lot for that period of time.

Getting young players on long deals is a good thing.

Drinkwater, James, King, Vardy, De Laet and Moore will all be great championship players and have potential to be premier league standard. I for one will be happy if they're all here next season what ever league we're in

The OP is a muppet and so is anyone who agrees with him goodbye

4 year deals were exactly the right thing to do. Maximises re-sale value. Whilst we've been dogshit this season, Vardy, Drinky, James, Kasper etc we would be able to sell and the contracts ensure they wouldnt go for peanuts.

Posted

4 year deals mean they're hard to shift though, King was never going to be a regular starter so tying him up for 4 years was maybe too much

Should we go down the majority of our squad are capable to go up automatically again if not play offs what's the problem??

Real world... We might need to do a 'West brom' and yoyo for a few season before we can become a proper premier league club again don't worry

Keep the faith.

Surely they will all have clauses if we go down to half their wages?

Surely?

If not that's awful

These are good players though, and ones we really need to be keeping - the heart of Leicester, Moore, Drinkwater and James especially ones we should be keeping hold of for as long as possible.

If we were giving a 4 year contract to Konchesky or Dean Hammond, then yeah..
